Didn't think he was that bad. Only major decision I'd disagree with was him not giving the free kick at the end. Don't think he played the full five either. Not the worst ref we've had this season, and in no way culpable for the result.
Refs have to make quick judgments and the lower down the ladder you go the worse they are at it. My gripe today, but also with refs at all levels (and it is more aimed at the game in general) is added time. There is only one reason why a team time wastes (and we do it to) and that is that less time is always added on than has been wasted. Incredible football has not done something about this as it detracts from the game!

I thought he was awful. Gave us very little, and the incident where he gave them a free kick for the same challenge he'd just waved away on Poyet summed it up for me. Definite free kick at the end, although Cousins was a bit of a dying swan, and since when is a hand on the throat a booking only?
However, he played 5 minutes 8 seconds according to the BBC. I just want to understand how he only added 2 minutes in the first half, and with the physio being on at least 3 times in the second, a goal, three bookings, and 6 substitutions - plus all the time wasting he just kept waving at rather than dealing with - just 5 in the second. It should have been 5 minutes for the goal, bookings and subs alone, guideline 30 seconds for each, plus 3 minutes for the physios and whatever you want for the time wasting.
Refs don't stop their watch, they feel what time should be played. They always play more time in the second half than the first as they assume less time will have been wasted - it is to a mental formula. So having watched football for as long as I have, without looking at my watch, I can predict with 90% accuracy, how much time will be added.
As for fouls, it is often unclear who is fouling who and the ref usually won't see the full picture. This isn't easy to be fair and I don't think I would be much good at it - but then again, I 'm not a ref! The best ref's have a better understanding of the game so they have a better idea what to look for.
The poor decisions the ref made yesterday didn't cost us the game, although he could have played more time.
Muttley, you are right that the ref didn't cost us the game. However, he did cost us some great attacking set pieces and also gave them probably 90% of every 50/50 decision in the second half.
I didn't think he was that bad in the first half but the second half, bloody awful
When referees get big decisions wrong, there are all sorts of factors to consider, and it is often extremely difficult.
What is so frustrating and inexcusable - every game at this level seems to be officiated by a gormless sap with an inability to 'tune in' to what is happening around him for 90mins. I see it every week.
It's not the one big penalty shout, its the 15 times a particular player pushes someone else in the back, the constant time wasting of another, the five or six times a player has his shirt pulled etc.
Referees at this level seem completely oblivious to this sort of behaviour.
Not giving that free kick on the edge of the area at the end when Cousins clearly beat the man was absolute criminal. Then he immediately gives them a weak free kick after. Total disgrace!
Blatant pen not given in the first half too, their defender seemed to want to take Richard Wood home with him as he wood was jumping for his header from an early corner

What's the point complaining about the referee when we have been awful tonight.
This guy is spot on when talking about key refereeing decisions that has gone horribly wrong.
