Shouldn't be too hard, places like Westfield Stratford have free wifi covering the whole area, which is much larger than a football stadium, and that runs at all times with hardly a hitch. And that can cope with thousands of people connecting at any one time too, so 10000 people at the valley shouldn't be an issue
Really pleased this is being trialled. Hopefully these tests will give the service provider the chance to see the demand and then get the bandwidth right so that everyone who wants to can get online.
if it remains free then great, if not, then anyone prepared to pay for wifi access for a couple of hours during a football game seriously needs to check into a social media / internet addiction clinic forthwith !
Have you seen the entertainment dished out at The Valley for the past 18 months!
Good to see that the most pressing issues at the club are getting sorted out first.
Can't sort out players, now the window has shut and can't sort out the pitch until the end of the season.
Planning application for the new Sparrows Lane complex is in and they're working on different strands at once. Some will be behind the scenes, some will impact us on a match day.
Really can't see how this is something to moan about.
You are obviously not a true charlton fan, there is nothing a true charlton fan will not moan about. :-)
You don't have to sit next to him.
Er...you don't even sit in your own seat, so you can pipe down!! ;-)
I expect there will be initial teething problems with installing a system such as this cos there always is...but it shows the club are trying to improve things so good on 'em....
....and with RD himself coming from an electronics background I reckon they'll get it sorted sooner rather than later.
What are the logistics of something like this? Does it involve some kind of super router/a network of routers/something more complicated? Must be very difficult to provide fast flowing Internet access to thousands of people-my router struggles with just a few people on it. Will we all get a reset router button under our seats?
I put a fantastic wifi infrastructure in at work. It's from a provider called Aruba Networks and is hideously complex, but is the absolute dog's bollocks. I could give you a rundown of it - but most of it wouldn't make any sense to you
Suffice it to say that wifi which supports about 5000 concurrent users (which i pretty much what the Valley would be able to handle) is as far removed from the average home wifi as it's possible to get.

I am an avid user of social media, but even if it is free I have my doubts. Why on earth would you need some other distraction while you are watching the game (yeah, alright I know...)? The scores from other matches are available at half time, can't people have a couple of hours concentrating on one thing?
Well there's nothing I like more than streaming a movie to my ipad when I'm at the theatre, or watching the One Show when I'm out at the movies, or watching the criket when I'm in or out of my box at Wimbleydon, so the ability to focus on something other than what I've paid to go and watch is a real bonus. I'm thrilled.

It's also bloody expensive.
Aruba is crap*. What kind of monkey made the buying decision on that? Cisco all the way http://ciscobeatsaruba.com/
*I do work for Cisco though.....happy to field any tech questions - not on this forum obvs
Worked pretty well and was able to get score updates throughout the game and a half time. Although it did keep kicking me off but it was better than before
Connected to the WiFi and the bandwidth was shocking. Gave up waiting for internet pages to load and almost as bad as using Vodafone 3G at The Valley. They will need to fine tune this methinks. Not what this IT Techie is used to that's for sure.... ;-)

Sit in North season ticket holder no email.
I'm standing outside the North Stand at the moment and it's working perfectly .
In north stand.
Unable to join network :-(
