Was listening on Player and biting nails throughout the entire match. Superb result for us, especially with the Spanners losing. Just wish Reading had done their bit and beaten Barnsley.

On a pedantic note, I read this in the SSN match report:

Charlton, though, delivered a fatal shot across Forest's boughs 10 minutes from time as Cousins slotted into an empty net from 12 yards
A shot across the bows is a warning shot and therefore rarely fatal. Yes, yes. I am a pedant.
Forest - trees - boughs. Maybe he was trying to make a joke. If so, it failed miserably.
Tree puns in a Forest match report? No need fir that, leaf it out mate.
  • Excellent play from both Jacko and Astrid in the build up to our goal. Obika did well to make the run too - looks by far our most mobile and dangerous forward.
  • I have heard that Hart is going to Man City and Riga will be heading up the Academy. Have no knowledge if this is correct. It is just something that I was told. I hope that we can keep Hart but this person told me that he has turned down two contract offers. Will be very disappointed if he leaves as he has done a great job in the Academy.

He could hardly turn down City, the new facilities they are building look amazing

Typical Charlton away performance. Kept organised in the first half before getting a little more adventurous in the second.

We deserved the win in the end. Forest should have possibly scored a couple in the first half, including hitting the post, while Reza and Sordell gave the ball away in our own half too much with little touches and flicks. We got in a few dangerous areas but struggled to really turn them into decent opportunities.

We grew into it in as the second half progressed and Adjarevic became more influential. We started to win more and more second balls and looked like we wanted it more. The Forest fans were so restless and impatient and got on their players back at any opportunity, something that helped us. Take note Charlton fans.

Cousins missed a sitter before his goal which is why he took his second chance in such concentrated fashion. Great to see him breaking into the box. That little bit of invention from AA helped to create something. Obika looked stronger than Sordell up front and made a difference. Good to see Reza looked better as the game went on, and the back five and Poyet as good as we've come to expect. Jacko dependable as ever.

We are not easy to score against, something that is vital when we don't score many ourselves. Forest didn't look like scoring after we did and I actually thought we might score again.

Huge and deserved win. Takes the pressure off Derby in Saturday.

Just home after a tortuous journey with junctions 25-27 closed on the M25 and more cones along the journey that Mr Whippy has served up in a lifetime !!!!

But, it was SO worth it & well done to Mr F who was our chauffeur tonight ( even allowed us to have 2 Motown Magic CDs to sing along to )

Tricky's report is spot on. We looked much more of an attacking unit from the start even though the build ups were like watching paint dry at times and often ended in us giving the ball away.....BUT we persevered and I thought the first half was pretty even. Hate to say it, but Marvin really was very poor & Reza not much better IMHO. Both sides had their chances and blew them,

Second half we seemed to grow in confidence- not massively but bit by bit. Woody continued as Dorian had started( hopefully a precautionary sub at half time ?) both very sound & secure in their role. Rhoys looked a different player tonight , which was another positive. As Tricky said, Obika made a huge difference & young Jordan was a constant thorn in the Reds' side all night - demonstrated by the amount of times he was left in a heap on the pitch. Unfortunately his skyer right in front of us looked as though it might have been our best chance of a goal but Lady Luck was on our side tonight for once & he was destined to score the winner in the end. It was great to see all our lads run across the pitch to celebrate madly with Jose & the rest of his management staff - another positive sign that the camp is united after the upheavals over the past couple of weeks.

A fantastic victory against a Forest team who appear to have not only lost a manager, but also the plot. Their fans were singing "You're not fit to wear the shirt" after we scored and they almost handed us a second on a plate. Greening was outstanding for them, I thought.

So, we travel onwards ( & upnorthwards again) to Derby on Saturday with renewed hope in our hearts & a more confident team to cheer on. Jose is definitely doing something right & should be congratulated for the starting line up tonight and his substitutions. Hand on heart, he'll never be "the gaffer" but he's growing on me slowly but surely. Just wish he didn't look so much like Pards from a distance!

Well done to all our lad and to my fellow travellers tonight. Everyone one of us deserves a pat on the back. You can keep your " Operation **" games - tonight with a small but perfectly formed away following is what it's really all about .

    Onwards & definitely upwards !!!!
Fanny even now from afar my respect and admiration for you just continues to grow and grow. You do us all proud with your loyal and unwavering support. :)
  • Hart has done a great job at Charlton and I suspect it would be a wrench for him to leave just as the plans are progressing for the training ground and hopefully academy cat 1 status. I hope he would want to stay and see that through rather than go to groom youngsters who would never stand a chance of displacing the multi-million pound players Citeh can just go out and buy.
  • Everybody has their price and with money no object for Citeh it's probably an offer he can't refuse and I wish him well.
  • So what was the ruck about with Wilson and AA???

I've read that several times on here.

It was confirmed in the thread from one of the meetings with the fans (CP, RM and KM I think?) that Hart had a contract until 2015.

Hope Paul Hart reconsiders this if true...

Where is the satisfaction of bringing a Man City player through only for them to end up in the Championship / League One... compare that with Charlton where your pushing a kid through into your employers First-Team who every time you see play you can think: "I helped produce that talent"

  • On the game what actually was the formation? The official Twitter feed said AA was playing centrally with Sordell and Reza either side. The commentators suggested Sordell was the main striker.

It was suggested it was a 4-3-3 with Astrit as a faux number nine with Sordell and Reza on the flanks.

Who have you heard it from? I have heard it quite a few times on here, but is it the same rumour being recirculated or is there some basis for it?

In the main Sordell was the main striker, Reza was RM and AA was the most advanced CM. However, there was quite a bit of interchanging of positions. Sordell sometimes moved to LM (as did Obika when he came on), Reza sometimes moved to second striker and AA drifted out wide left and right. Sometimes this was done unilaterally (ie one player only moved) and sometimes there was a swap (eg AA and Reza did this a few times). There was definitely more of this going on than I have seen previously.
  • A Manchester City academy player is probably more likely to make his league debut for Charlton than City.....
  • if paul ahrt goes it will be sad but we need to replace him with someone who will do a good job. jason eull was good replacement and riga appears to be now. ashame because we have begun to bring through some real gems and more are on the way.

Looks like a straight between us and Yeovil, who Gary Johnson has got playing well. Our target should be Doncaster, 5 points behind them with 3 games in hand. No doubt that Jose likes to go for the win, he had Joe Piggott ready to come on when we scored and changed it to Fox. I would definitely like to see Jose sign a contract, the players like him, and when he welcomed Joe back, Joe said that he is a real gentleman.

My source reckons Jose is lined up for the Academy at season end but only time will tell!
Have to say that I've heard this too, JK

Perplexing if true. The Academy has recently been producing more quality players in the same 'batch" than we have seen in the last 20 years.
The unsubstantiated rumour circulating is that Paul Hart is off to Man City to head up its academy
Yep that's exactly what my source advised when Jose was first appointed without being offered a formal contract. Katrien confirmed that it was a handshake agreement and a written contract would be agreed after CPs severance deal was negotiated.
  • Just out of interest, where does Paul Hart originate from and is his family with him in or around Charlton? If from midlands, could be a good reason to move back there with City if true
  • Heard Curbs is coming back to take over from Jose. (Training ground rumour)
Got the taste again after Fulham.
  • In that case it must be premier league next year because he said he would only get involved with premier clubs

Born in Lancashire 1953 spent his playing days mainly up North I remember him as a CH at Leeds late 70's gradually worked his way south in management in last 4/5 years so likely to have a base somewhere this way. Hope this helps :-)

    Blimers , KHA !

All I know is that we had 11 on the pitch, and that there was definitely more movement/options offered off the ball which was great to see.

Oz- you're so kind but someone has to do it !

Really pleased you were able to meet the gaffer at our meeting in 2012. We have another next week if you're at a loose end .....

    Take care

It's not something I pine for. Maybe he can spruce up his journalism in future? If not, he should be beeched, if not birched. Perhaps they need new leadership at the elm. Oak-ay, I'll quit there before I branch out into a new lot of puns.

I think we have reached the root of the problem right here.
  • Yes but even though we won at Forest we are not out of the woods yet!
