Maybe he thinks training and sometimes playing alongside better players will make him a better player?
All this talk of loyalty but if a player isnt deemed good enough then they are dismissed as "deadwood".
Of course if we pick up a young player who is out of contract with their current club they will be "ambitious" and "looking to advance their career" and any fans of his old club will be told they are "bitter" and shouldnt stand in the way of the lad joining a "bigger" club.
It depends if that player had been tapped up by us and knew he was leaving last club for the past six months. Oh, and if he was going to leave first team football to sit in our reserves.
I have no problem with him going, but he could have made sure Charlton got a bit back - before anybody says why should he - Shelvey and Jenkinson did. Would have been the least he could do. Classless - he is only a lad I suppose but this will follow him - if you start classless you are always classless. His country are a laughing stock - but they don't realise that there is more to football and life than doing what is best for you - there is respect and honour - maybe he will regret the way he has done this when he gets more mature!
Still - no better club for him to join. Nastiest of the lot!
Maybe I'm wrong but this time last year Diego Poyet wasn't even in the pre season opener at Welling. We all knew of him because of Gus but he wasn't considered to be a potential player of year candidate. Who knows who will come through the Academy this year and be a star? Munns, Adhern-Grant, Lennon, Gerrard, Gomez? This time let's just hope we sign them up to one of RD super 5 year deals!
Stuck a big 2 fingered salute up at us fans .Don't blame him going but could of made sure Charlton got a decent fee by signing a 2 year contract. Not a thank you to us fans in any of his tweets or did I miss that ?.
ZERO chance of him coming back on loan. i'd say a glamor club for the "transformers" boy...and getting 1st team appearances within this season.
Wouldn't want him anywhere near our team. Break a leg son.
Classless twat, just goes to show you can take the boy from Uruguay, but they're all scummers inside.............
So if you had a chance to double or triple your pay, potentially changing your life, would stay with you current employee out of loyalty?!?
Rubbish.
As for stating that all Uraguayans are classless, let's not jump on the Suarez bandwagon on this thread.
And I know what the phrase break a leg means. I just hope you don't mean any more than that.
None of us are in that situation, and this argument is ridiculous, I mean absolutely no offence to you but this simply does not apply to anyone other than a tiny few. Diego could have bucked the trend like Jonjo did and. For me he is in the same twat category as Defoe and Parker now.
And this other stupid argument about the amount of youngsters that are cast asunder, they know they have only a tiny chance of making it and the academies are run to educate them in skills other than football because of this. Trust me nowadays clubs invest more in the youngsters than the other way round

When Jenkinson left didn't a lot of people initially slate him for not doing a jonjo but he actually had done something similar ??? Clearly Poyet hasn't done anything like that
Funny isn't it that now he leaves everyone is jumping on him as a "classless Uruguayan", however we all know full well that he has spent years representing England and we all know he deems himself English.

He classes himself as Uruguayan, and wants to play for their national team, aswell as supporting them in the WC.

No very few would have the chance for such a big pay jump. Buy I remember when I left the first agency I worked at about 8 years ago. They offered me an extra 17.5k which is probably less than the uplift Diego would see in one week. But it meant I could afford the flat I wanted. It is my life and I wanted to do the best I could. Footballers could break a leg and their career could be over tomorrow. Make hay while you can I say.

I believe that although Jenks was out of contract and didn't sign a new one he said he wouldn't sign for Arsenal unless they could come to a satisfactory agreement with us for compensation.
Diego, thanks but you are making a big mistake by not staying for at least another season. If you go to a PL club we will probably see you at The Valley next season for another Champ club. If you go to Chelsea then your career has gone tits up but you can console yourself with being fucking rich. Badly advised, very silly.
The fact that he's left without us getting a bean or that he's going to make a poor personal decision that could well leave him rotting in the reserves of some Arabs plaything?
If it's the latter , which some comments on here seem to suggest, then it's entirely his decision and we should mind our own business.

If the company spent 7 and a half years training me to do the job and left after 6 months of actually being able to do the job I think they would have every right to be pissed off and their stakeholders to hold it against me. Id also feel some loyalty to the company, particularly if I knew that at some point in the not too distant future I'd be able to take that wage hike even if I stayed a little longer.

‘I consider myself English but if Uruguay were to come and the opportunity arose I wouldn’t say no. It’s a question I’ve been asked a lot. At this stage I’m not going to be flying out to Uruguay to play and be coming back. ‘I was very, very happy to play for England and my family was proud. I was born in Spain so that’s an option as well. I’ve got all three passports. ‘If the opportunity arose, you never know in the future. Maybe England wouldn’t want me and someone else would. ‘I’ve played for England over the years but I got ill and dropped out and have never really been put back in. I’ve heard they’re still doing well the Under-19s so that’s good for them, I’m pleased. ‘We speak Spanish at home. No English whatsoever. I’ve been to school here all my life so me and my brother are English boys.’
Not surprised. Very few people have any sense of loyalty these days and just take for granted the start they were given by Charlton by Charlton in this case. He has no real class and nor has his Father who obviously was influential in his decision. Personaly I could not care less how the test of his career works out.
Thanks for the loyalty Diego and I think this may have gone to your head a bit. Good luck in your future. Are you as good as everyone has been saying? I'm not too sure. You were a breath of fresh hair, admittedly, in a pretty bleak season but we didn't have much to compare it to. I shall be watching your career with interest.
Meanwhile, we'll move on without you and do just fine thanks.
