Time to leave the site

Have had enough of this the last few weeks really. This site has become a one trick pony, powell is CAFC, nothing else matters, ignore his record, we will score goals one day, superb tactical nous etc, we love him, he was hard done by.

we used to argue over things years ago, but now it is becoming polarised by cp love, even after he has left. it is dull now and this site is becoming increasingly marginalised, believe different if you want.

With the banner at the top of the page, it tells me the Dear Leader was more important than the site/fans/club and I cannot follow this mantra, or the bullshit that says we are a 'feeder club' any more. There are too many behind the scenes people on here, briefing against the owners/club for their own outcomes and they seem to be poisoning a significant number of posters against the club.

The sneering comments like 'wait until Powells LMA statement' tell me people are briefing behind and against and happy for the club to suffer.

This site is rapidly becoming a one trick pony, the Chris Powell love in. He has gone , let it go, was a great player, but a limited manager, how many of you really know what he was like, apart from a signed autograph now and then and a simpletons smile, do you really know he loved you? why couldn't he be arsed to come over to fans after sheff utd capitulation? he was scared of the fans reactions?

Do you really know what he is like? why were we blacklisted for loans by agents and clubs? apparently not because we would not pay, there is another reason. maybe we should put our efforts into finding out what that reason is, as it seems to have slipped under the radar.

So I cannot join in with that and cant be arsed with it anymore.

Danny, you are a lovely bloke, but you cannot run a site with your own agenda. I will not be back until the banner goes and there is some sign that balance is restored.

I know most of you will not miss me, but it will not be much fun without someone to argue with either and I miss the early days when the site was fun too, why do you think not many of the earlier posters are here now?. There are plenty who do not post on here anymore and plenty more that just read now, there are other sites.

This site has become politicised and is not for me anymore, cheerio.

So off to ITTV..............come and join me, or follow the current mantra on here.

Swearing and making aggressive points won't get you anywhere Steve.

Have civil discussions regarding various topics is what it's all about.

P.S Some people actually really liked/loved Powell and it will take time for them to "get over it". Everyone is entitled to a opinion at the end of the day.
  • Every negative comment regarding our new owners and co., you are some how relating to the sacking of Powell.... they are two totally different subjects.

FWIW, Powell won League One, kept us up and finished well in his first season with his team, then times got tough regarding getting anyone in, and we were financially struck, going back down was to be expected. Some people seem to forget there are 11 players on the field that can't put the ball in the net, Powell can't get them to do that.. and seemingly nor could Riga in his first game in charge

This really. Nothing wrong with a heated discussion and things will get heated 'cos they care about the club but as Cray says, everyone is entitled to an opinion. You made some good points in other posts but on one topic it was a touch abusive.

As for the political thing, personally I don't know a single person on this forum as far as I'm aware so nothing political from my side. I just have an opinion at present that things aren't quite right. The CP sacking is just one element of that but I'm as aware of his shortcomings in some areas as I'm sure many other CP supporters are.

    Fair enough!

  • the sign at the top of the page is bloody stupid, fair enough you're unhappy about powell going I think pretty much everyone is but still gotta support the club
  • To some extent I agree regarding the blindness surrounding powell as a manager. One of the reasons I gave up my ST last summer was because I simply wasn't enjoying the style of football we were dishing up week in, week out. Was the timing of his dismissal right? not in my opinion, as I actually thought it should have been sooner. Like most fans I so wanted Chris to be a success here. Excuses of hands being tied and no money to spend were valid to a point, but that didn't excuse his poor tactical decisions and the negative style of play.

Yes, there are those who don't agree with what you think or say and those who are happy to chuck a rope over a tree at the first sign of anyone saying anything negative regarding Sir (always found that silly) Chris Powell. But why is that reason to leave? No doubt they'll be some on here who won't agree with my post and may well slate me for it. Does it bother me? not one bit.

As for going over to ITTV, I myself thought of doing the same at one point, but after reading quite a few threads on there, I soon realised it's not a Charlton site, it's a reamsofverse soap-box where everyone seems they have to agree with their chosen leader whatever his opinions. And regarding Powell, I've never know a charlton manager so despised as he is on that site, so although you may well fit in with their his views on that subject, you'd better bite your tongue if you disagree on any others. Reams likes to surround himself with yes men it seems.

    Actually, maybe he's Roland Douchalet?

  • You can argue the CP sacking makes sense for footballing reasons but it is the behind the scenes machinations that are concerning people. The owner imposing players on the team is not the way to run a club. Who are the behind the scenes people briefing against the club for their own purposes? What Machiavellian agenda do they have and for what outcome? How are they poisoning the rest of us against the club?

Agree with you re the banner. It is ill judged in my opinion but just as those who were against the original banner, I feel the owners of the site are entitled to express their opinion in the way they see fit.
  • This site has become a one trick pony......So off to ITTV

    LOL
  • Yes it's all far more reasonable over there, good idea. :-)
  • Enjoy your time at The Asylum .
  • Steve Dowman. I agree with a lot of what you have said. However, you lost some credibility when you said about going over to ITTV. That site has been lambasting Chris for getting on for 2 tears now and their negativity against the club has beggared belief.

I'm hoping that this site will now start supporting CAFC again rather than continuing to feed the paranoia and conspiracy theories against the new owners. We must give them a chance otherwise we're all as bad as how ITTV have been in their attitude to Chris. I personally don't think we're going to be used as a pawn and feeder club for RD. At least at the moment I haven't seen any evidence of that. And no one else has either. Only conjecture and rumours and that can be very damaging if it spreads and continues.

Hopefully common sense will start to prevail. If not this probably won't be the place for me either which would be a shame because there are so many good points about the site. We must be fundamentally united behind CAFC though, otherwise things will start to unravel.

  • I think it probably just reflects the general view at the moment. A lot of Charlton fans did'nt want him to go, but my reading on here is that most are just getting on with it. Sure there ar posts in favor of CP, but it happened this week. And there are people who think we needed a change of direction.
To be honest, the majority of us (I think) are more shocked by the way it was done, which makes the club look cheap and nasty.
    Still, no need to leave.

Hahaha just spat out my cornflakes
  • The people on this site who steadfastly refused to criticise CP no matter what, ultimately did him no favours at all. Had we had a more unified voice in that we wanted a less negative approach, more attack minded football, start off games on the front foot, earlier subs etc, I think the message may have got through to him and the coaching staff. CP had my full support until the Sheff Weds home game last season, when despite the game obviously slipping away, he refused to use subs until it was too late. This season, the failure to use Harriot earlier, also angered me. But ultimately the football being played was mostly dire with many games passing by without even a meaningful chance being created. That can only continue for so long. The day of reckoning was always going to arrive, no owner would have allowed things to continue as they were, we have stopped scoring goals and are bottom of the league!
  • Was/is there really an agents/clubs boycott on loans to Charlton? If so that's something we do need to know about. I may have missed this in other threads so if there's stuff about this on CL please let me know.

    People come and go.

Attention seeking at its very finest, but like I wrote earlier in the week "Opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one!" Sadly when your views are accusing people for having more than one log in (and you fail to back up your allegation) plus saying you will join the trust when you can witness mass suicides on the Valley pitch, then what more is there to say.

  • I can't say that some of what steve wrote is incorrect but I never understand the need to broadcast that you are going and won't come back
  • I'm sorry to see anyone leave this site, no matter what their opinions. I was saddened and shocked by the sacking of CP, more in the way it seemed to have been done, but he has now gone and we must now regroup under the 'interim' manager. One will never know what went on behind the scenes, what discussions took place and what transpired after Sundays under-performance.
It is clear that the football club and the team need to rediscover that winning mentality and I can only hope now that JR will be able to instil that. Whatever peoples thoughts about CP, in the end he has gone and all of us, on this site, ITTV and other Addicks forums need to get behind the team. Many years ago I went berserk when we sold 'Killer'.....even contacting the club and telling them what I thought.....then a few days later I went to the next home game and we, including me, moved on. That is what we ALL have to do now, lets get back to supporting the club, the team and for the rest of this season JR. I will continue to do the match threads, and Yes before anyone else mentions it, I did find it difficult to start it last Wednesday as I was still upset about CP's sacking, but once into it, it was back to normal.
We now have the chance to get behind the new man, someone I've never heard of before this week, and help the team win as many, if not all their games in hand, and of course the 6 pointer that is tomorrow.
Time for us all to move on, contribute to whatever site you wish to, in fact maybe more than one but lets join together for the sake of CAFC, with CP's sacking some people got what they had been calling for, others did not, but it has happened its not going to change.
It is a pity that people cannot now just join together for the sake of Charlton, we all need to be the 12th man at every game, granted it cant be me as I'm unable to get to any games currently, but I try to do it through the match threads.
Lets start tomorrow and win at Millwall, 3 points are desperately needed, joining together and supporting whatever line-up steps out of the tunnel is paramount.

The lack of chances being created could reasonably be put down to the paucity of skill in the players available, and the players available could be put down to the paucity of money.

We actually made a lot of chances in the Birmingham game, maybe more than against Huddersfield?, so it could be argued a corner had already been turned before Sir Chris was sacked, and it probably coincided with the arrival of Astrit Ajdarević (be still, my beating heart).

Re the banner, I think it is quite funny but it shouldn't outstay its welcome.

Re the use of 'Sir' when referring to Chris Powell, I think it shows the respect a lot of people have for him. No-one's being forced to use it, you use it or omit it as you wish.
