the players wont leave unless they want to, fact. and if they want to leave then f**k them
Would you be happy working at a work place that will one day say, go work in our office in Belgium, Germany or Hungary. If you don't we will push you out of our back door, and get you off our wage bill? Can't say I would, the players are putting up with a lot. We're becoming a non-attractive club for many players of our level to come to, players need certainty not uncertainty..
So. How important are they in RDs experiment and CAFC's future?
Should we want the horrible older sibling to fail and implode so we get more of daddy's attention?
or would that mean the whole experiment is over and CAFC will be in trouble?
but that could mean being sold to a football man as a stand alone Charlton again.
Or do we want them to beat all before them on their way to champions league glory so the loanees and youngsters CAFC get are better, and better youngsters are attracted to the stable?
Or doesnt it matter one iota?
Yawn
If it bores you @IAgree then don't read it. This is a discussion board and the original poster has a right to post and ask the question without being bullied and made to feel that he/she can't post.
Don't think my comment was bullying or undermining (certainly not the intention) Lazy maybe. I just don't think we need hysterical, paranoid, highly speculative, conspiracy theories being recycled into endless threads.

Sorry IAgree bit of a long message for you to follow there.
No I'm not unintelligent just don't agree and was just me being lazy - See other thread.
The general mood is is that RD is a businessman first and a football man second. Standard Liege must be worth ten times more than they were when he first bought them and their potential value could still grow. They are virtually guaranteed trophies and a CL place every season, a pretty attrative prospect. I imagine he will want to sell the team within the next 3-5 years, making CAFC the biggest team in his pool. His talk of sending CL-quality players to SL from CAFC may suggest that he wants to use CAFC to feed SL, but lets be honest, how often does a CL-quality player walk out of our academy, and how much more are they worth selling to a Prem team than sending to SL? If RD plans on winning the CL using a feeder club's talent, CAFC isn't exactly the pragmatic choice.
The theory I like best is that CAFC are the key to unlocking the treasure chest that is the PL's TV money at the lowest cost. We have a better stadium than half of the teams in PL, we can fill it when necessary (we nearly sell out whenever it's Football-for-a-fiver) and we have a big dormant fanbase that would come back if only they were guaranteed quality footie week in week out. We've also got a decent academy and generally don't attract trouble or controversy. Lets be honest, if we had the budgets of the likes of Leicester, we could have held onto the players we have had to let go over the past couple of years and made a real stab at promotion; last year was proof of that.
So it is in our best interests that SL do well - the better players they have, the better players we get loaned/given. And the better they do, the higher their value will become, making it more likely RD will sell and inject part of the proceeds into CAFC.
As a little addendum to this interesting piece.
It must be remembered that the Belgium top league is considered quite weak in Europe and as such the winners of said league do NOT atomatically qualify for the champions league, but must like many other leagues in Europe go through qualification.
Wrong
The first goes this year like last year directly to the group stage.
Astounded to just discover that three people flagged me because I wrote " Yawn" as a comment on the original post! In what universe is writing "Yawn " Abusive"??!!!

I know, the flag button does get abused and used as a disagree option. Personally (unless I find the comment particulary offensive) I find it best to just ignore the comment.

You should be agreeing with everything that's said.
