If RM has money still invested in the club then that’s the reason why he is the board in any shape. The reassuring supporters and communicating the RD plan is all hokum. Over the important developments so far such as KMG & Stephens leaving, the firing of CP and the utter lack of respect or effort to bring the Charlton supporters / customer base along with the vision, RM has been singularly silent and hopeless.
With all due respect to RM, if he doesn’t have money invested in Charlton, then I really do not understand what is he still doing at the club. This is not to be personally abusive, which I really disagree with but on his own his judgement is not astute. Curbs and Varney were the smart ones. Charlton got lucky with them.
Presumably Roland hasn't repaid RM's loan which only falls due and attracts interest when we reach the PL, as I can't see much advantage to RD in doing so. However, RM's not the only one in that boat and none of the others who are/were are still on the board.
well that's the point, we're not sure at all what his motives and feelings are right now, and cynicism directed at him is entirely understandable. He can stay coy/silent or engage in a dialogue more in the spirit of 1997.
tells lies, deserts those that stood by him with passion and would've vehemently defended him, when you shit on your own your fall all alone that's the harsh reality of life , its a myth that we need RM in that role I couldn't care a jot if he remained
Where is Richard Murray? He said he was going to be the voice of the club in his interview with RD and Katrien. That was in December / January. Have we heard from him through official club channels since?

I believe he was quoted following Powell's sacking as saying he'll be back at the club one day. Might have been at a supporters' club event. Generally speaking though, he's been deadly silent (roughly in line with the club's standard policy at the moment).
Perhaps if we all spend the day moaning on here that we've not heard from him for ages then we'll get an interview on the club website tomorrow. That seems to be how it works these days.
He is only there to protect his investment. End of.
I would be very surprised if this were true. He effectively has very little power. However he there and will, I am sure be giving his opinions to RD and Katrina. He is a genuine supporter and spent a good part of his life dedicated to the club for the benefit of all of us. I, for one, am very glad he is still there and certainly hope he doesn't feel pressured to resign and walk away.
Feel he should walk away with whats left of his reputation intact, he did wonderful things but he brought us Dowie and Reed, Slater and Jimminez (This club is in safe hands) and he endorsed Duchatalet. Its time Richard, we want to remember you for what you gave positively to the club.
There really is no point in him being there in any official capacity if he isn't going to stand up for club or supporters or at least communicate with us.
Ignoring the use of the word puppet, you are probably completely correct. He is an employee of the club and would be expected to make announcements that the club (company) want him to make. In a small organisation like a football club that effectively does mean the owner.
As he doesn't have any shareholding now he is only there as long as he tows the line - something that everyone that has an employer has to do.
I think his comments yesterday about Powell couldn't, realistically, have been said by anyone else, currently, associated with the club. As Powell had been at the club for longer than most of us have been supporting Charlton it needed someone like Murray to say the thank yous. It would have seemed insincere had RD or KM done it.
I'm happy for Murray to still be at the club. I'm sure he offers valuable advice to RD and KM but I'm also sure that it was only, ever, going to be a transitional position. In time RD and/or KM (or her successor) will make the kind of statements that Richard Murray makes at this moment in time.
Even though we might not like what he says all the time Richard Murray is a Charlton fan so we know that, so some degree, he thinks like us. For that reason alone I'd rather have him where he is than on the outside where his views are not given - even if they are ignored sometimes.
Think bolloxbolder is correct, I think his time is done at CAFC, his job is a non-job. The last few years post his ill-health he has been quite frankly rude and a lot less care to the club, he's broke promises and treats fans with much less respect, if any. It's a huge shame to see, he is not the voice between the owners and the fans, he's not voiced a thing.
It is surely something he needs to agree with the owner. I don't feel he has any real influence anymore so don't really care. He is a Charlton fan so if he want's to be involved in whatever way - it is surely up to him and not for us to tell him otherwise.
I just feel very saddened that RM's reputation is in tatters. He trusted Curbs but Dowie and Pardew were not to be trusted. By the time RM understood how much he had relied on Curbs, and how crap the dirty duo were, the damage was done and the errors multiplied. We all make mistakes and I could live with that, but deserting people like Steve Kavanagh will always leave a bitter taste. But I could see the deterioration in his appearance on a weekly basis, and it was hard to watch. He paid not only with wealth but also with his health. I don't trust him but he is the last link to a Charlton that I understood so all things considered, I think I'll sit this one out on the fence.
His / our biggest problem was appointing Dowie. He should have let Curbs do one more year (and kept it quiet that he was leaving) and spent that year planning for a long-term successor.
I have just entered this debate rather late, and I am astonished by the overall comments. Show me a man who never made a mistake, and I will show you a man who never made a decision. We all know that Richard has made mistakes, but never deliberately intending to damage the Club. How many of us have put our money in to cover the wages ? For me the answer is that of course Richard can maintain his current position, his historical knowledge and experience (including the mistakes) will be extremely useful to the new owner and staff. I have only ever had one conversation with Richard, but I can assure you that I have never met anyone who loves this Club more than him.

Well said, despite his mistakes, RM is still a Charlton hero IMO, i will always have respect for him.
Now, more than at any other time since we left the premier league, CAFC needs Murray on the board. We are going through the second big transition on and off the pitch in three years. New management team (Joyes and Kensell to stay), 15 (?) professionals leaving the club this summer and finally some capex available for the pitch and any other sensible proposals... Unless Duchatelet can be persuaded to sell some equity to a fans group then Murray is the only chance of a link to the top. If we want to rely on leaks and rumours then let us burn all bridges to the board. But for me the only thing lacking is a clear vision statement from Murray and Duchatelet to act as a backdrop to all the changes. Murray has now overseen two transfers of ownership. The first to avoid his own bankruptcy and or CAFC falling over - and that left us with promotion back to the championship and the longest serving manager in the division. The second transfer was to a man who has solutions and experience but will not throw money at the problems. The manager went but we survived and live to fight another season in the Championship. What's not to like?

And for me. I also remain confident that RM will get the dialogue going again between the Trust and Katrien. He is working on it, and there is no one else who can do it.
Some of the comments here are spiteful and cowardly, and the people concerned should be bloody ashamed of themselves.

The club has gone in a different direction...
