I thought it was the same competition . We would be in the Europa league while Liege would be in the Champions League . Not sure what would happen if Leige dropped into the Europa League at a later date if we were still in it?
That is why I think we would be out of it. Effectively the Champions and Europa League merge after the initial stages and clubs drop down . I'm sure Standard Liege will take priority.
Personally I am not that bothered , I think the first part of the Europa League is nonsense and a distraction for a club our size whichever Division we are in next year. Look at how it affected Wigan in the early part of the season.Harry Redknapp used to play his development side for these games, even our former loanee Dean Parrett got games.
People are moaning about the fixture pile up.Would we really want 8 extra games travelling around some obscure places in Europe in the early part of next season?
I have read and re-read this. It may be a "whoosh" moment, so I am ready for the flack, but this post really does appear to be serious. Incredible.
Even though the extra games and travel might tire and damage our little squad in the longer term, being able to say we were in Europe, getting one over the rivals and playing some new teams would be a real lift.
The first leg of the 3rd qualifying round is on 31st July and assuming that we are away first , then I would recommend for anyone without a passport to apply before 7th July at the latest . It usually takes 3 weeks to arrive but you want to make sure you are ready to travel the night before .
Am I right in thinking that, if by some miracle we get to the FA final and qualify for the euro UEFA Cup and get relegated, we would be the first 3rd tier club to play in a major european competition?
Don't think either will happen btw.........................

I'm sure third tier welsh teams qualified for the Cup Winner cup back in the 70's and 80's.
Well the bottom line is that we won't be able to play in Europe as it would mean the possibility of two clubs playing each other who are owned by the same person. I think this is excellent news as there has to be some sort of kick in the teeth if you are a Charlton fan, so if this turns out to be it - it means we will get to the FA Cup Final. If we could have got to Europe, we would have probably lost on Sunday anyway. The unthinkable may just happen!

@mutleyfc is saying this we will qualify because that would be our just our luck. I don't believe for one minute he is actually saying we WILL qualify.
How do you define "network" ? Surely it would be two clubs legally owned by the same entity cannot compete in the same competition. If so RD just has to transfer legal ownership of us or Standard to one of his children/wife/milkman and there's no issue ? Isn't that what happened with St Truinden (sp) when he bought Standard ?
I'm on the lookout for a new job so I could offer my services....
Well i'm a pessimist and can only see us losing on Sunday! FACT. So none of this nonsense will be relevant come Sunday evening.
Seriously though, if we're struggling to compete at 'lower' Championship level, what would we look like against the likes of Napoli? Could we really have a hope in hell's chance of not getting embarrassed if we played a top 3-4 team from any of the top leagues in Europe! Anyone who would go to those games isn't a glory hunter, they're mentally unbalanced!! I'd be there like all the rest of you and just as proud
But that is why it is so exciting - whenever Charlton see a pot hole in the road - they usually drive right into it. And this pot hole is conditional on us getting to the cup final. If this Gypsy curse thing is true, we may have stumbled on a way to outsmart it!!!

*disclaimer* I have been known to renege on a bet.
We are going to win the FA cup.
Fact.
