  • In normal circumstances I would strongly argue that we have the squad to keep us up, but the distraction of the cup, the fixture pile up and the quality of the pitch puts fear into me, sadly it does nto do the same for RD ... Huh!!!
  • One thing is certain in my mind is that when Roland found out that we will be taking 5,000 plus to Sheffield on a Sunday morning with no trains available, he will understand that he now owns a very special Club. One with great potential for success, who has arrived in the Quarter Final of the FA Cup with a team that struggles to score goals, and is languishing in the relegation zone. It is good to have a wealthy owner, but it's a damn sight better to have a lucky one !
  • When have we ever kept our best players?
  • When have we ever kept our best players?

Apparently Roland is the first Charlton owner to ever sell them, or going by this thread thats the case.

  • Firmani
    Bonds
    Bailey
    Hinton
    Campbell
    went
    Tracey
    Hales
    Flanagan

    Parker

many others over many decades always have been and always will have to be a selling club
  • The only thing that bothered me was "Charlton players could go to Leige". Of course if that ever happened, it wouldn't be our fringe players going there that need match experience, it would be our best players.
Would those players have a choice in the matter? 100%, they are not Rolands football slave, but we wouldn't even get a transfer fee for them.
I don't think he will execute much harm to us, he cares about his businesses (so he should) , but it's just that he owns 6 clubs now, we are not a full priority and would most probably get sacrificed if it was a choice between us and Leige

RD proved at Leige that he doesn't care what fans think of him as he apparently knows best.

I look forward to watching it but the fact they use the word controversial has already raised my suspicions that it will be the usual British football media/pundits/former players attacking anything that threatens the we know best status quo of the English game.

Probably got an interview with Yann. ;-)

I imagine that's where the controversy is - from the outside, we've been taken over and had some of our best players sold? Don't know, I didn't really feel like it was the most controversial of takeovers!
Best players sold, manager lumbered with players he didn't choose.
Our 3rd best player after Solly and Wiggins and an over rated midfielder who has been replaced for at least the rest of the season by a much better player on loan who we would not have if it was not for the link up with SL and a youth player stepping up, Yann and Stephens also both chose to leave, why do people forget that convenient part of the story.

I would love to have Yann still here don't get me wrong but he lost a hand of contract poker, id much rather support the players who actually wish to play for Charlton right now.

Im also not sure why your second point matters, if they are good players and SCP is as good a coach as we all know him to be(well i believe him to be anyway), then he will do fine, as long as the owner and his scouting network let Chrissy pick the starting 11 then i personally don't see anything wrong with the new set-up.

It's called adapting but we know how that is a crime against the very nature of Football in this country to so many.

Im not saying that the new ownership is going to be a success for sure, i just hate the anti new ideas bias and short term thinking that plagues English football especially IMO.

Im looking forward to next season watching attractive football played by a young squad of players from our academy mixed in with some young foreign talent either starting their career in the network with us or from one of the other clubs.

The long term future is looking bright for me even if this season is going to be a long drawn out crawl over the finish line.

Apologies for the long post if you read this far. ;-)
I didnt read until the end, but accept your apology (-:
  • I watched the programme, didnt really add much to what we know already IMO

Just basically it appears Standard Liege are the priority then us, which we could have guessed, THeir fans were unhappy and protested intiially but now they are top of the league and going well... It may not be this year but i think this should work for us and the main thing as Russell Slade said on the show as long as Chris Powell has some say in who goes/comes in then it should be ok.

Lets see first we need to stay up and see what happens in the summer
  • Wish RD was coming to the VIP meeting on Thursday. Now it will have to be Katrien getting the sharp edge of my tongue (no innuendo intended)

No he said it could be our best players, but that remains who are up to scratch. I think its more then likely we will develop their younger players, cant see us sending any players to them

  • Although I was very critical of TJ & MS, I'm getting the feeling that we may have jumped from the frying pan into the fire. We all know the reasons behind the lack of investment in the last year of the previous regime & they let too many contracts run out this season, they at least backed the manager & didn't sell our best players.

So far , RD has sold 2 of our 1st teamers & brought in 6 players, of which only 1 (AA) has been a regular with Koc, PP and Nego not featuring at all - thus making us weaker over the transfer period & not stronger. As Airman Brown pointed out on a different thread, thus just doesn't make sense & we need players for the HERE & NOW and not for the future.

Although in a normal season the players we currently have may just keep us up, having to play 2 games a week until the end of the season, on our pitch, may just be too much & unless we bring in a couple of seasoned Championship players then I fear we will go down as tiredness, injuries & suspensions will take its toll.

Blimey, I actually agree with you Golfie :-)

The sale of Andy Reid was surely one of the most crucial ones.
