  • What controversial takeover? What have I missed?
  • I'm just quoting, we'll see tomorrow

Yeah, didn't t mean you - was just wondering what spin they are looking to put on it.

  • Knowing how on the pulse the media are to what's going on down at the Valley by the media, it's probably an expose on Mark Hulyer.
  • Or the Gliksteins ....
  • I look forward to watching it but the fact they use the word controversial has already raised my suspicions that it will be the usual British football media/pundits/former players attacking anything that threatens the we know best status quo of the English game.

Probably got an interview with Yann. ;-)

I imagine that's where the controversy is - from the outside, we've been taken over and had some of our best players sold? Don't know, I didn't really feel like it was the most controversial of takeovers!
  • Whens this on then - time / channel ?

Well owners controlling clubs all over Europe, in 5 (?) countries if definitely a new thing!
  • Controversial? They're covering TJ and MS about 2 years too late!

Best players sold, manager lumbered with players he didn't choose.

That's definitely noteworthy, but I still wouldn't describe it as controversial!

Our 3rd best player after Solly and Wiggins and an over rated midfielder who has been replaced for at least the rest of the season by a much better player on loan who we would not have if it was not for the link up with SL and a youth player stepping up, Yann and Stephens also both chose to leave, why do people forget that convenient part of the story.

I would love to have Yann still here don't get me wrong but he lost a hand of contract poker, id much rather support the players who actually wish to play for Charlton right now.

Im also not sure why your second point matters, if they are good players and SCP is as good a coach as we all know him to be(well i believe him to be anyway), then he will do fine, as long as the owner and his scouting network let Chrissy pick the starting 11 then i personally don't see anything wrong with the new set-up.

It's called adapting but we know how that is a crime against the very nature of Football in this country to so many.

Im not saying that the new ownership is going to be a success for sure, i just hate the anti new ideas bias and short term thinking that plagues English football especially IMO.

Im looking forward to next season watching attractive football played by a young squad of players from our academy mixed in with some young foreign talent either starting their career in the network with us or from one of the other clubs.

The long term future is looking bright for me even if this season is going to be a long drawn out crawl over the finish line.

Apologies for the long post if you read this far. ;-)
Losing Stephens may have been inevitable, but it's clear Yann would not have been hard to keep but Roland CHOSE not too.

As AirmanBrown pointed out yesterday only one of the six players brought in during January featured against Leicester, is that Powell's fault for not getting the best out of the players or are they not good enough? Im excited about the possibility of us building a young side playing good football but i fear we will undoubtedly lose some of our best young players if we're relegated to League One.

BBC1 .. its regional though so may not be covered outside the South East. Its late evening I think around 11.25 but check don't rely on me. If oyu have sky and Don't get the Late Kick Off South East, then there are regional channels on the sky platform .. somewhere.

  • Thanks for that mate - Sunbury is within the M25 so should be ok :)
  • Set to record - cheers Kap
  • Would rather they did this show every week than the fls
  • Thanks for the heads up as didn't know this was going to be on
  • Looks like its regional, I've got some crappy south west version with a Plymouth feature

  • On now for us... At the valley as we speak
  • Hmmmmm...........interesting piece but nothing we have not already heard; sharing players between his teams, not likely to spend on players, reliance on youth, none of his teams will be treated better than any others etc etc. interesting that he said 'Charlton players may be sold to Liege' but no comment about the other way. Looks like a long road for Chalrton to stability if aiming to break even throu player sales and reliance on academy players to step up to 1st team standard. Hard to imagine Championship success with youth players and sub-standard Liege players 'not good enough for their 1st team'..............thou, again, not exactly breaking news. Still wish Harris was our owner with focus on one single Football team and a purse to buy success.
  • Sadly Mr Meldrew66 there is no evidence Mr Harris, despite rumours he "kicked the tyres on a few football clubs including us, Reading, Leeds and others, there is no evidence he has actually bid for any UK football club.
  • Noted. Not sure RD is the ideal man to match our aspirations. Again, hope I am wrong.
  • Nothing new really . The only thing that worries me is that RD said we could sell our best players to Liege. Surely he meant loaning them. ?
It good to see the BBC making the effort to go out to Belgium and ask questions though.
  • It's clear to me that standard liege are at the top of this particular tree.
    By quite some way too

Although you would expect that to change SHOULD we ever get back to the Prem.
Does paint a very worrying picture of the future if this is Rolands model - because one of the first things will be an ever-dwindling crowd, bored and frustrated with best players being sold.

However, in saying that, it looks like the Academy continues to produce quality players...

  • Watched this programme last night.
RD doesn't fill me with optimism. His quote like having a family with 5 children.
Judging our dealings in the loan/transfer market and who we have sold,
we must be the black sheep in this family!
See still no contracts for CP, Morro, Jacko etc.

  • Although I was very critical of TJ & MS, I'm getting the feeling that we may have jumped from the frying pan into the fire. We all know the reasons behind the lack of investment in the last year of the previous regime & they let too many contracts run out this season, they at least backed the manager & didn't sell our best players.

So far , RD has sold 2 of our 1st teamers & brought in 6 players, of which only 1 (AA) has been a regular with Koc, PP and Nego not featuring at all - thus making us weaker over the transfer period & not stronger. As Airman Brown pointed out on a different thread, thus just doesn't make sense & we need players for the HERE & NOW and not for the future.

Although in a normal season the players we currently have may just keep us up, having to play 2 games a week until the end of the season, on our pitch, may just be too much & unless we bring in a couple of seasoned Championship players then I fear we will go down as tiredness, injuries & suspensions will take its toll.
