What has happened to Polish Pete?

  • He was garbage today. Not as good as Smith, Pigott, Azeez etc etc. We've been sold a pup

He's 20 years old. People need to calm down about him

Lol 600k on a player that isn't good enough is madness. I hope he comes good, but given our situation ones for the future are a luxury. Fingers crossed he is ready for next season.

We could have bought Ronaldo with that ten years ago
  • He'll be blown over if he plays tomorrow night, not only by Hudds' defence but probably a gust of wind or a boo from the North Upper. He's not ready and RD spending 800k on him for the future while we have unbelievable current squad problems is a disgrace, 800k could have funded plenty of loans to get us out of this shit.

Jesus mate you've been a barrell of laughs tonight

Mad isn't it. He'll probably be starting with Reza from now on though.
Unfortunately reading U21 reports, he's nowhere near as good as others in the U21's nor Michael Smith who we have out on loan,
Think you'll find we sold him mate.....................
  • If Polish Pete doesn't play until next season or is not ready to play now then that is a disgrace - especially after selling Smith and Kermorgant.

Clubs in the bottom three should worry about THIS season before worrying about the next.

Pete has been bought for the network, with the possibility of playing CL for Standard one day no doubt offered as incentive (as Roland said would be in his interview). Whether we need him now or not is irrelevant.
  • The Martin Samuels article in the Mail stated that the coaching team rated Thuram as somewhere around Conference level. I wonder what feedback Douchebag got from Powell regarding this guy, along with Reza, Nego and Koc. Won't have done Douche's ego much good seeing that he obviously fancies himself as some kind of football mastermind. What a shambles an utter, utter shambles.
  • To be honest, when we never saw anything of PP that is when I started to get concerned.

I wasn't so worried about Thuram, as foreign gk's often have eccentric styles and generally start off badly in the English game.

However when you see a guy we paid over $500,000 for not making the bench, you couldn't help but think that Powell was making a point to RD.

Like you say an utter shambles.

Its pretty relevant to our team as we are the lowest scorers in the division and sold a promising striker in Smith and our best striker in Kermorgant - so someone who could have played NOW would have been a little bit handy I'd have thought.

Whether its relevant to RD is another matter.

Absolutely. What sort of club that is in the relegation zone pays 500K for a striker for NEXT SEASON? Complete bollocks and only a mug would fall for that.

Quite obviously Powell took one look at PP in training and though, "You're having a fucking laugh, aren't you?" and went out to try and bring some loaners in.

How could Powell buy PP for next season when he did not even know if he'd be here himself?

I think a lot of people got a bit carried away with themselves when we signed this lad. I didn't see much to be excited about, at least in the short term, in his pedigree or even from his YouTube clip. Not trying to sound smart after the event, just saying I think we have got what was expected, at least the club has even if some fans thought we were getting something more exciting. This wouldn't have been a problem if Yann had stayed and Powell had been able to bring in one of his other targets as a partner. Now, with Tudgay and Reza likely to lead the line tomorrow, parting with good money in exchange for a prospect seems a bit foolish. However, to be fair, we are at lest led to believe that money has not been the stumbling block to us signing some of our loan targets

That said, I do think Reza will score goals if we can get him on the ball with a decent sight of goal, but therein may lie the fundamental flaw in Baldrick's cunning plan.
  • The expectations are unfair on the lad. I suppose it was a reasonable expectation that following the sale of our best striker that any striker brought in for any sort of decent money would be a replacement. I mean, we aren't owned by a mad man?

    Player Laundering

    Great phrase that.
  • It was the first time I had seen Polish Pete I am purely judging him on that performance and comparing him to Michael Smith, who Powell let go. Smith was superior to Piotr in the air, movement, and goal scoring prowess. How we spent 500000, or whatever it was and let Smith go for 100000 is beyond me. Piotr, on that showing, is nowhere near ready for the first team. Nor is Anil KOC who is inferior to Kadell Daniel and other academy players. Perhaps it is unfair of me to judge Piotr on one game and I will give him other chances to impress, but I don't know why we spent so much money on him when we could of got a decent Championship player who would be playing in the first team.

Totally agree, looked like a slow mo park player with a stadium and a few "extras" stuck in the stand pretending to be a crowd, doesn't take much to fool Charlton fans

All this lets all laugh at palace ,Newcastle and whoever else over the post Curbs years when if we only looked in the mirror we'd see the biggest joke club in football in recent times has been us

    Clown shoes
  • Still amazed we sold and loaned Smith out before giving him a try. He is still banging them in in league 1 but Powell didn't fancy him. He would have been quality for us next year....
  • Actually thought in the YouTube clip he looked clumsy and stumbled his way into the box a few times. Certainly not the next Lewendoski, maybe we've brought ourselves the next Pawel Abbott

That was my point. Duchatelet wanted him as part of the network, ad so it happened, whether or not he was what the club needed at the time. That's what this network brings us.

Not allowed to say that or people will think you are nuts for buying into the feeder club idea

  • No wonder Benfica didn't even send a car for him at the airport.

    They did...................he missed it :-)
  • Can anyone actually confirm the amount we paid for Pete or is it all just idle speculation at this point?

Idle speculation on Charlton Life, wash your mouth out young man! :-)

    Doesn't matter though.

He's only here to be toughened up and developed into what Roland hopes will be a profitible sale in 2 years time.

He'll probably go on loan to AldershotAlcorcan next season.

  • Who actually scouted and decided to buy Piotr? Clearly someone was impressed with him?

Presumably someone at Benfica was impressed with him, too.
  • The sad fact is that he probably doesn't have to turn out to be that good to play for Standard Liege. They are a crap team in a League that is clearly sub Championship.

Very harsh on the Belgian league
