[quote][cite]Posted By: suzisausage[/cite]palace 'friendly' not that long ago, when i was in the portmanor pub in norwood junction.
I got a phone call and was told not to walk the main way to the ground and go the 'back way' to selhurst park as they'd smashed up the wetherspoons pub (and people in it) and it wouldn't be a good idea to walk to the ground that way.
ex b/f lived round that way so the next day i saw the place. looked like a bomb had hit it.[/quote]
The Portmanor, thats my pre-match watering hole! I was at that 'Friendly' and as you say the wetherspoons did get totally trashed.
Not really sure why Charlton smashed up the wetherspoons, it's more of an away fans pub.
Walsall - I was there and it was very nasty - non stop action on the way. Especially on the way back when we stopped at the service station where a few addicks were attacked by Everton or Coventry fans(?) when they crossed over the bridge - they were then chased and with knives and machetes etc which were thrown at them. It was all quite amusing on journey back on the coach with some of them finding out they had stab wounds on their back/back of legs - I think one was called Mick and who wore one of those white butcher's coat with charlton blazoned all over (all the rage then).
As Badger said - all matches had its fair share of violence then, almost the norm. It even kicked off at Halifax as we were about to board the coach back!

As an aside, I go on other clubs sites occassionaly, as do many others on here, and i think its healthy to have a few outsider views on here, and despite being a Palarse fan, SoS ain't done nothing to get the mug stuff. If you can't post civil to him, then don't post to him.
[cite]Posted By: badger[/cite]Oggy red,(wallsall game)Seem to remember a meet up at the pub near the ground before the game, yeah lots of aggro that day, couldn't get in there end as it was cordoned off and had security at either side, the railway sidings was behind the goal, was lots of Nasty AGGRO On the way back.Come to think of it now it was pretty scary what with coaches/vans pulling in at servive stations and also the (railway) footy specials, rival fans meeting up and all kicking off big time, Got caught up a few times at many grounds and took a damn good kicking, glad things have changed as i'm a bit too old for this malarky, did you go to Bristol Rovers away the same season just before Xmas that was pretty mad as well, and we lost that game to. think we could share a few stories by the sounds of it.
StIll got me crombie?
Yeah, Bristol Rovers at Eastville - what a dump that was, with it's Greyhound track round the pitch.Yet another defeat snatched from the jaws of victory. I was on the Lewis's coach for that one so missed it all kicking off outside the ground and station.
The year before, old Division 2, we got hammered 6-1 at Ninian Park and the coach was bricked, glass shards flying everywhere. The Old Bill just stood by and watched the Cardiff get on with it.
Plymouth Argyle away 73 or 74. We had a crew dressed in Clockwork Orange gear, white coats and bowler hats marching down to the station from Home Park. And from the bridge above, we all got bombarded by rubble and bottles from the Central Element (Argyle crew). Before the match, the Brittania pub outside the ground had been wrecked by a big bundle kicking off.
Needless to say, we were hammered 5-0. And the train broke down halfway back to Paddington. The Old Bill were crawling all over the train and we were hours late back. In those days the players travelled on the train too. Eamon Rogers and Phil Warman were well slaughtered and I remember Warman walking along the platform at Paddington station with a bloody banana sticking out of his flies.......
The most scary thing was if you got a Fotty special you either got ambused prior to coming into the station bricks at windows or got off and got chased by Boot Girls? Ffffing hectic and totally mad, safety in numbers and no mobiles....pull into a servive station and it was like a bloody lottery, punch ups in the car park. Always managed to keep my silkscarf? LOL

Basically a few palace fans decided to mug off a guy with son and father (probably) who were wearing shirts and really not doing much and so someone in the wetherspoons called the likely lads (including some millwall) and the next thing you knew all hell broke loose..... wasn't pretty

Is that an "official warning"?
