Palace at home - 81/82. Went off in the village and on to Blackheath.
Note to that Palace mug that comes on here: Long before the groundsharing days. Your lot obviously "cared" enough back in them days, and probably so did their mums when they ghad to try and get the claret out of their farahs!
before I was old enough to go Charlton away games - me and my Charlton supporting Dad used to go to The Den most Saturdays when Charlton played away. My very first match there was October 14 1967, home to Villa, and Norman Burtenshaw was the ref. Millwall lost 2-0 at home, the crowd got ugly, invaded the pitch and the ref took an almighty kicking.
I can't remember all the circumstances as I was only a kid at the time, but I'm sure Millwall got hit by a big fine and had the ground closed for 6 weeks.
At the Den for years after, whenever the ref gave a decision against them, you would feel the hate and hostility as the ground erupted to the the chant: "......Burtenshaw!, Burtenshaw,! BURTENSHAW....!"
The refs shat themselves - and surprise, surprise, Millwall always had a fantasic home record.
1969 at Highbury in an FA Cup tie. My dad took me, I was only 9, and I remember being really scared when hundereds of Charlton Skinheads went charging up the Holloway Road before the match. In the ground, Charlton took the North Bank and I think there were flares going off or something and lots of people being carted away either by the police or on stretchers.
Les Berry;s testimonial - arsenal took a right hiding if i remember rightly - was with my dad's mate who disappeared for 15 minutes and came back all flustered so I assumed he was having it as well - I was only about 12 or 13

You calling me a mug! Your post should have included "jog on".
Went to the Old Den for a pre-season 'friendly' years ago. As it was a friendly, there was no segregation- only a thousand or so there. Stood along the side to be safe. Or so I thought. There were three or four bikers there in leathers, and from their reaction to the odd decision, I sussed they were Charlton too. End of game (0-0 so not much to get excited about), a crowd of Millwall surrounded the bikers and started jostling them. Then one of them threw a punch at the head of one of the bikers, who just glared and walked on with his mates. End of trouble - Millwall youth didn't know what to make of it. Quite scary at the time, though...

I think i know who the mug is.
Yep, I'm sure you do - the sad billy no mates who has to go on other teams MB's to get someone to talk to him. Now go on son ........... jog on!
Off It, give it rest nowmate, you've had your couple of pops and got your bite.
As an aside, I go on other clubs sites occassionaly, as do many others on here, and i think its healthy to have a few outsider views on here, and despite being a Palarse fan, SoS ain't done nothing to get the mug stuff. If you can't post civil to him, then don't post to him.
Millwall at home 1971 I think. There were more Millwall there than Addicks. I also remember 1974/5 V Palarse at Sellout Park. Two fans stabbed, loads of aggro before and after the game. It all kicked off after the game in South Norwood high street. My dad and I sheltered in a shop to avoid it.
chelsea,1977. my brother took me and we squeezed into the east terrace.i couldn't see anything so he put me up on the floodlights.
being a night game, the atmosphere was electric.chelsea all over the place, but that didn't stop me belting out my favorite song at the time "charlton aggro 'allo".i think my brother nearly pooped his strides, being surrounded by chelsea! i wasn't too much for them to worry about though, only being 7.
afterwards we hung around, just watching what chelsea were up to with the fires and that.
last game at Selhurst, i was about 15, group of us walking back to Norwood Junction amongst hundreds of Wham, I opened my big gob, took a couple on the back of my head and realised group had scattered and i was very much alone.
Lucky not to get a fair hiding. Come away with a headache and a lesson learnt.
[cite]Posted By: badger[/cite]wallsall away 1972/73 season, to make it even worse we lost as well.Plenty of other grounds, was a lot more violent and scary then.
Went up on the Bubbles coach that day, anyone else on there?
Just been relegated, first match of the season in Division III.
1-0 up at half time - lost 3-2. Vince O'Kane missed a last minute penalty that would have given us a draw.
Suddenly some Walsall pulled blades on us and we kicked out for our lives.
One Walsall geezer brandishing a knife got kicked to the ground, and then was picked up by some of our crew, carried over heads and thrown over the fence and on to the railway line at the back of the ground.
Looking back, it makes you cringe - and it was only Division 3 for Chrissakes!
Oggy red,(wallsall game)Seem to remember a meet up at the pub near the ground before the game, yeah lots of aggro that day, couldn't get in there end as it was cordoned off and had security at either side, the railway sidings was behind the goal, was lots of Nasty AGGRO On the way back.Come to think of it now it was pretty scary what with coaches/vans pulling in at servive stations and also the (railway) footy specials, rival fans meeting up and all kicking off big time, Got caught up a few times at many grounds and took a damn good kicking, glad things have changed as i'm a bit too old for this malarky, did you go to Bristol Rovers away the same season just before Xmas that was pretty mad as well, and we lost that game to. think we could share a few stories by the sounds of it. StIll got me crombie?
Palace v man Utd at Selhurst in 1980, I was 10 years old at the time and I remember walking back with my dad while world war 3 seemed to be breaking out in White Horse Lane.
I clearly remember a palace fan removing someones metal front garden gate and hurling it through the window of a mini-bus full of Man U.
More recently nothing will top the Italians in turin when we played germany in the world cup semi in italia 90. Or the Poles in katawoci (spelling) throwing roof tiles at us....they were trying kill people.
On a mass scale, Rotterdam before England Played holland in October 93, was complete mayhem.
palace 'friendly' not that long ago, when i was in the portmanor pub in norwood junction.
I got a phone call and was told not to walk the main way to the ground and go the 'back way' to selhurst park as they'd smashed up the wetherspoons pub (and people in it) and it wouldn't be a good idea to walk to the ground that way.
ex b/f lived round that way so the next day i saw the place. looked like a bomb had hit it.

Simple as that.

Sorry, but if I remember rightly, at least one stabbed was a Palarse fan. And we were sheltering from marauding Addicks fans.
