I always remember Port Vale away in (I think) the play-off season, I think it was the first or one of the first times the Board, Murray, Varney, etc had paid for the away travel and the atmosphere in the away end was class, Mendonca scored.
1960 (?) 2-0 win against Villa.......this was after the 11-1 hiding we received in the away game. The atmosphere at the game was electric, the ground seemed to be packed and us tiny tackers were shepherded down to the front railings by the oldies
1998 was incredible, but I was only 11 and I don't think I appreciated the size of the achievement. If that game were to happen now, I don't think I would make it to penalties!
Away at Palace in 2007 stands out, Todorov scoring the winner. Loudest away support I have heard from Charlton.
Drawing 0-0 with Stoke City in a match in 1994 (My first ever visit to the Valley) John Robinson equalising against Manchester United in the 3-3 draw The Boxing Day 4-2 win over Chelsea Brad Friedal scoring against us for Blackburn Rovers (Wouldn't be in there had we not won 3-2 lol!) Chris Powell scoring in his last ever game against Coventry City Yann Kermorgant scoring against Hartlepool United on the day we lifted the League One title
And our first game back in the Prem, when we beat Man City 4-0 at home. I remember when we were 3-0 up, Kinsella had so much time on the ball while rushing towards their goal that he virtually stopped and asked the lino by me if he was onside. He was then upended by Weaver. Up steps Graham Stuart to slot away a textbook penalty; his body seemingly aiming to the far post in the run-up, his foot smashing it to the near post. That's they way I remember it, anyway.
Favourite footballing memory: Claus Jensen's winning super strike versus Blackburn. Made all the sweeter by the fact that their keeper Brad Friedel had just equalised for them.
The Dec 2000 3-3 draw with UTD fans. I always remember Robbo after the third encouraging the team to get the game restarted. I am sure he fancied a fourth and a winner. Obviously Wembley was a day to remember. Tottenham away in the cup 1-1......mid eighties I think possibly 85. I don't think I am imagining, drinking in a pub called the Robert E Lee on Tottenham High Road on the way to the game. Loads of Charlton at that game
favourite Valley memory - the 3-1 win over Preston to win promotion from 3rd division 1975 - trailing 0-1, Bob Curtis misses a penalty (a rarity indeed), Bob Goldthorpe bundles over the line to equalise and 2 great strikes from Killer Hales to wrap it up - evening kick-off, bumper crowd and fans celebrating on the pitch after the final whistle

It was the Robert E Lee, it was my first big away day and I amazed with our support that day, betted still a Spurs fan I knew from school was with me as "he thought I would be stood on my own" We had to wait ages for the replay, there was lots of trouble inside and outside the ground, I joined the army the next day so a memorable tie all round for me
Watching my son lead the team out as mascot last year in front of a full house v barnsley made me proud , just hope my grandfather was watching from above.
Play-off final, Bent's goal against Birmingham when he skinned Melchiot, knocking Chelsea out of the carling cup on pens, last season's 6-0 at Barnsley and beating Tranmere (I think) at home in 99 after being 2-0 down
...For me my favorite memory at Charlton was the first time I saw the team play. It was during Curbs last season in charge and I was in London with my mom and dad on vacation. We saw Charlton beat Middlesbrough at The Valley with 2 goals from Benty. We all thoroughly enjoyed the game!...
Wow, you picked the right game there American Addick. My memories of the Middlesbrough games are that they were the dullest bore-draws ever. You some how picked a gone 'un. Were you committed to supporting Charlton before the match, or was that a result of the win? Just wondering whether, if it hadn't been for Darren Bent, you could have been on OneBoro right now talking about Mark Viduka's wonder goal.
Truthfully, I didn't know anything about Charlton prior to the game. I became really interested in Football after watching Cristiano Ronaldo play for Portugal in Euro 2004 while we were on Holiday in Ireland. When we vacationed in London I wanted to go see a game, so we got lucky and got Charlton and Boro I've been an Addick ever since.
My mum takeing me to the Valley for the first time when I was 3years old.Can you imagine beeing high up in the old main stand and viewing the vast east terrace & bright green pitch for the first time . I can also remember the roar of the crowd which you could hear from our house in rathmore road . Best match memory has got to be 21st december 1957 when we beat Huddersfield 7-6 . I was 12 at the time but I can clearly remember every bit of the game .
As a Canadian born fan, I have only had the opportunity of seeing Charlton play "live" twice: Favourite: April 21, 2012 - at the Valley and waiting for the announcement that Charlton were "Champions". That trip was a gift from my wife to go see Charlton at the Valley (she knows how obsessed I am with the team and follow every match via BBC txt, ESPN Gamecast, CAFC Player, etc.....lol). I met a great group of followers at the Rose of Denmark prior to the game who made me feel very welcome and the post game celebration at the RoD was the icing on the cake...! First game: Highbury - October 3, 2004. Arsenal 4-0 Charlton....My first match and without benefit of knowing anyone or attending with any other followers, I promptly left the Tube station and followed the crowd up to the gates.....embarrassed that I had gone to the "Home" side's gates and was quickly re-directed, past the mounted police to the "Visitors" gates. Despite the outcome (including Henry's cheeky heel strike for a goal), it was a fantastic outing - even the stewards were friendly and I had a chat with a few who, when they found out I was from Canada, asked the "normal" 2 questions I am always asked when I tell someone I support Charlton Athletic: 1) Who...???? 2) Why????...great memories....!!!!
