Got to admit - its looking a tough ask - statistically speaking. We've averaged 0.88 points per game so far. Carry on like that and we'll end the season on 41 - almost guarnteed relegation. We need to up the average to 1.37 points per game to get to an end total of 50 (which should keep us up). To get to an average of 1.37 is a 65% increase - which is a big ask! Can the team improve to get that - don't know. Only good thing is that its not that mechanistic...can also stay up on less points if 3 other sides do even worse...that may be our only hope for this season unless the Belgian contingent can help us to up our game significantly.
I think 47 or 48 will be enough to avoid the drop this season. I fear that we won't get that many but hope springs eternal if the new strikers can start scoring and we can beef up our threadbare midfield options in the loan window.
The way things are developing at the foot of the table, it's looking like a seriously low number may be good enough for safety. Could see 45 or 46 being sufficient now. Of course that's still a long way off for us, but nothing like the 55 which was needed last season!
The Fink Tank predictor has Millwall finishing third from bottom with an "expected" 42.8 points. If we can get another 20/21 points that might just be enough.
There are fewer "must win" games than common mythology would have us believe, but the home games against Yeovil, Barnsley and Bolton and the away match at the New Den really are massive. Win those and we'll give ourselves a very good chance of survival.
Well for certain Charlton will be playing every Saturday and Tuesday from now until April 12 bar one Tuesday evening.IF Charlton draw at Sheff Wed or win you will have to rearrange the Watford home game as well March6th. This is one big concern for me,old saying always was ,points in bag better than games inhand and still stands for me.The season is going to catch Charlton up and bigger teams have fallen to the run-in before.
