If you make a decision that at the time, others think ' hmmmm, I don't think that is right' and it doesn't have the desired effect - It feels to everybody like a mistake. Chrissy makes a lot of those in game - tactical decisions (usually substitutions or lack of them) that make me go hmmmm.... Yesterday was a prime example - I don't believe bringing on an extra defender at the death, makes the defence less likely to concede. I think it does two things - number one it sends the wrong signal to your opponents -alhough admittedly WIgan were battering us before it, but number 2, when you are in that siege metality and are holdng the opposition off - keep the dynamic. Substitutions can change things, and we didn't want a change. Of course we don't know what would have happened if Chrissy hadn't made that late sub.

So a long convoluted para about what infuriates me about Powell. And it really does, he is way to cautious and it loses us points. So why don't I want him to go? Because with the resources he has been given he has shown himself to be a great squad builder, ad I think he deserves a chance of showing us what he can do with backing - like when he was backed to get out of League one.
  • Many things Chris Powell is good at he would not have become manager otherwise. His background with the PFA and his history with the club since 1999 should show that. The knowledge he has picked up from other managers at football clubs will hold good for his future in football also. The man has heart ,pride and soul in anything he does given the right backing he can and will make this club better.
He was given the backing only once and went on too have a record breaking season with Charlton.Given what we have been through over the last 18months(and i use WE as a fan of the club ) nobody could have done any better than Chris Powell.
He is the man for this job in the coming seasons but without the backing from RD ie no extended contract it must be one hell of ajob at the moment.
RD GIVE THE GUY A CHANCE LET HIM KNOW WHERE HE STANDS THEN WE CAN MOVE ON.
  • He got us to the 1/4 Final of the FA Cup.
  • Stop the gloating.
  • He's only the third Charlton Manager to get us to the Quarter-Finals of the FA Cup you mean
  • He can celebrate by doing chin ups on the cross bar in front of the away end!
