Will Powell be able to bring in a single player he wants ?

  • I wonder if Powell had heard of Ajdarevic, Thuram and Koc until a few weeks ago, yet I doubt that he objects to any reinforcements to the squad. But he would balk at having to shed yet more of the players he himself chose for the club and not having a say in their replacements. Duchatelet's apparent refusal to hire Dom Dwyer may be significant.

He played with Ajdarevic at Leiecester.

  • Possibly a couple of loans when the loan window is open. Also, no fear of cp quitting before end of season... Loyalty is something he has bucket loads of. However, his future at end of season is currently questionable in my opinion.
  • As reliable as his takeover talk oohaah, put up or shut up.

This. We seem to be going down the same roads as a few weeks ago. People getting their knickers in a twist over a load of hearsay and conjecture.
Sit tight and let it play itself out.

  • Moussa @ Coventry is a Belgian .. Praps our new leader can have a word in his ear (French/Flemish/English) and get him to sign for us .. if Pressley will let him

That doesn't mean he rates him. Pure coincidence that.

What's to stop RD loaning in players from of his other clubs once we hit the limit from Liege?

Now's the time to get behing Powell like never before we end up with some clueless, yes man nobody.
  • The Dom Dwyer thing isn't that odd, what's the point for 6 weeks?
  • I doubt it, unless RD is playing shrewd and trying to wait for some last minute bargains. It'll be Skit if Powell is given no 'choice' at a time when he is literally begging for some quality. I very much doubt he's sat down with RD and said;
'Hey Roly. We have a depleted squad and need a few more squad players, you know the type, just to make up the numbers. Can we have a few more, just like the one's we've got?'
  • No doubtful. It looks to me as Duchalet thinks he is smart but due to the dynamics of changing a team and management mid season without any time or investment for the new coach, there is a serious risk that he will lose 6 million quid and relegate the club. Oh well League One and Standard Liege B youth development team it is then.
  • who knows at this stage - everyone is probably taking stock and feeling one another out. one thing is for sure, relegation won't be tolerable for RD I'm sure, so m sure there will be some investment, whether fees, loans or wages...who will manage the newbies is of more interest to me right now

6 weeks is a long time in The Championship. Any forward in a team for that long could score enough goals to save a season. We often play more than one game a week remember.

    Remember Hans Jepson?

March51 does - and so does my Dad

    ;o)
  • I get the feeling the answer is no!

I reckon the board do need to be given until the summer to form an opinion.

We cannot go from the criticism of the old regime and slag off the new one without giving time.

However, our keeper playing today smells fishy.

I hope I am not being called a cynic as coincedence is also an option!

  • There is so much that we don't know at this stage.

Roland might have given powell a list of players and said you can have any of these as im paying their wages either way but there's no money for new players.

He might have transfered them himself and said these are the available players use them as you see fit.

He might have said to powell that if he takes players from his other clubs he can use what little cash he has to spend on one decent signing from outside his network.

Or he might be a fucking prick like romanov was at hearts and be signing players HE wants to see in our team.

but what im certain of is, it's far too early to tell so im just going to sit back and try and enjoy the rest of the season

That's a grim scenario. I wonder if Duchatelet has actually asked Powell to name the players he wants. Didn't Powell intimate that he wanted Dom Dwyer, and he was refused?

I must be more cynical than most, Elfs, but I take the goalkeeping position on face value - Hamer "tweeted" this morning that he had injured his dodgy ankle on Thursday; Alnwick was apparently unwell last night. Are you suggesting that our new owner has begun picking the team already...?

  • "enjoy the rest of the season" ------------id like to enjoy some of this season----its been utter shit so far.
  • On the basis that people think Powell's time is running out, IF there is no money who is going to replace him?
  • We don't know there isn't any money do we ?

Unless something is done about his contract this week I can see him going along with most of the squad. Then Relegation . ( The idiots on that other forum will be happy ) .
I'm not normally one to worry but I think this new takeover is going to be disastrous unless they act this week and let him get on with strengthening the squad with non Liege cast offs .

  • I'm still going to give RD the benefit of any doubt because the guy hasn't spent 20m on us to watch us get relegated to league one. However the loan signing of Koc is baffling. A young kid who's barely played for Liege, even though they have a whole team of youngsters. I don't for a second believe that he's going to be suited to a relegation battle and i'd be surprised if Powell had requested him.

Surely if you were looking through their players who don't play much then you'd choose the iranian striker. Standard won again tonight and he wasn't even a sub. The only possible reason i can think of why he's not with us already is that RD wants to sell him for a fee in this window.
  • Posting but only read OP.

How do we know that powell has had no influence in these signings? Ajdarevic was with him at leicester, thuram is a top class keeper and you cant lose if you dont concede, and koc by all accounts is very highly rated.

Your all making an assumption that CP has had no input but you have no facts at all to back that up! What if RD has said to him, heres my available squad players please help yourself. Would also explain the order in which the 3 players have arrived. First a known figure, then a keeper ( lets face it, the bens are nice guys but neither are class keepers) then finally a your attacking pacy forward that all cafc fans have been hoping for!

I bet he has had more input than you all assume!

I take your point, Dan, but there is a vast difference between Powell gratefully accepting bodies in the hope they will shore us up and his own intelligence in choosing players he thinks will make us win. Duchatelet might be underestimating the tough spirit of Barnsley, Donny, Wendies and Millwall when it comes to a dog-fight at Easter.

I agree with you in that I'm sceptical about Duchalet's strategy. If the Iranian striker is a good player, why is he not even in the Liege first team? And since he is not, why should he be good enough for us?

  • We need goals, everyone can see that but at times we create very little. I may be alone in this but I wanted us to sign Ozturk, play him alongside Cousins and then play two wingers. I think we lack strength at times and our strikers get hardly any service.

There are literally hundreds and hundreds of players from Tottenham to Timbuctoo that can't get a game with their current teams yet would definitely be regulars at other clubs of the same standard. That argument doesn't stack up on any level.

  • I just trust and hope that CAFC will not become this season's Watford .. except with far inferior players
  • I wouldn't expect RD to go public just yet on the budget for new players and signings, as that is only likely to increase any fee we have to pay (loan fees are perhaps more likely, unless the players are from SL or another of his clubs) and the wage demands of players and agents. There is also an important negotiation to be had with three or four of our key players who are out of contract in the summer and their agents. It doesn't, of course, help to attract new players or extend contracts when we don't have a clear idea of what division we're likely to be in next season and whether Chris will still be in charge. That said, the fact that we find ourselves straightjacketed into this very tight timetable is essentially down to Jiminez and the previous regime.

There is, however, a huge difference between what is said publicly now and the discussions that are, we hope, taking place, or about to take place, behind the scenes between Chris and RD and his team.

The picture should become clearer over the next 12 days, although we face our biggest game of the season so far in 9 days time at Donny and, as we all know, we are in desperate need of some meaningful help.

  • People need to realise RD isn't interested in Powell, even if we are relegated RD has the money to get us straight back up.
