5 Million for Jordan Cousins????

  • Treacy with all due respect...

    Your head's gone!
  • Worth at least £50m
  • Tricky one, but I would hope that cashing in on players with potential is not now the imperative.

The money we got for Shelvey was out of necessity, but if I'm right, he was at Liverpool for about a quarter the time he was here, yet they sold him on for three times what they paid us. If we can hang on to players like this for a longer - and I too accept we are always likely to be a selling club - at least we can get the best value for them when they do inevitably leave.

£5m seems way over the top at this stage, but in a season or two there's no reason he shouldn't command that kind of value.

  • Should ask for more than £5M, will be worth 3 or 4 times that amount if he fulfills his potential. That sum is worth a punt for a premier leaque club who probably pays more on a single wage annually on many of their players.
  • A great big "depends" for me. If we have a decent amount of money to invest in the squad over the summer, we should definitely keep hold of him. I not, and the 5M would be invested in the team, it would make sense to do so.
  • If Delph was worth £8M, Walcott £12M and Zaha £15M why would we want to give him away for £5M - especially since PL clubs now get more money every year than when those players went and even more so when if there was any truth whatsoever about £5M most of it would be based on appearences, England Games, Europen qualifications etc.

In January a player is worth more to the club that owns him often, as he is worth his market value plus disruption to your season. I don't think we can afford any disruption with our best players when we are 3 points from the bottom 3. Why would we snap someones arm off to weaken our side when we are in such a periless position.

Surely RD bought us and has steadied the ship from a point of view of finances to an extent (at least so we don't have to accept any offer).

IMO we should hold onto him unless someone wants to pay us something completely unrealistic, nurture him then next year watch as a team with him, Solly, Wiggins, Gomez, Holmes-Denis, Pope and others plays entertaining, quality football which sees us punters happy.

The Uddersfield fans comments on the other thread are valid and show what can happen, but to me if you continue to sell your best players and potential kids after only 30 odd games then you better have bloody good scouts/managers or you are in trouble.

Don't get me wrong, I know we are a selling club (isn't every team to different extents), but do it when it is right fo us and for £5M now i don't think this is.

This. For once I'd just like to see Charlton play hard ball and ask for what a player is actually worth.
  • I'd be staggered if we got anywhere near £2m for him, and I'd expect a significant chunk of that to based on appearances etc.

He's looked good (very good) in a side that is struggling to get away from the relegation zone.

The relegation battlers in the Premier don't pay £5m for unproven players, and the sides that have bigger fish to fry don't need to take gambles with players like Jordan - they can, almost certainly, buy him in three years with over 100 games under his belt for a lot less than £5m.

I have no idea where these numbers come from, and I do understand the Charlton fan's bias but I'd be worried we we paid a decent fee for a player that'd played less then 30 first team games.
  • Mr Bligh..............Football is about opinions................watch him next time and look at what he doesn't do.................................yet !

Currently whilst obviously he has bags of potential he IMO is being overated by many which ultimately puts a lot of pressure on the player............a young player who has yet to complete a full season

Proof will be in pudding I guess and hopefully I will be wrong in the long term
  • Fair enough.

I agree he goes sideways a lot but I think its one of his strengths. The fact that we can play through him from the back, him being able to get the ball and find a teammate whether that be sideways, forwards or back, saves us from the dreaded hoof. I don't think he prances! Him in the centre of midfield makes us look a hell of a lot better than when he's not there.

I would also snap their hand off for 5mil at present but the boy is a quality player now and we'll be a top top player in a few years so if we don't need to sell then we shouldn't
  • I would hate to see Jordan leave especially as he is our best academy player since Shelvey. But RD is known for selling good young players at his other clubs plus give it a couple of years and he could be worth more

  • Having a bad night tonight!
  • He is a decent player but if anyone thinks he is worth 5 mil they need their heads testing.
  • Not worth 50p based on his performance tonight. Let's hope the PL scouts saw that.
  • Cardiff scouts were there tonight. Had a shocker as did most of the team.
  • No one will buy him on that performance. Just about the one good thing to come out of tonight.
  • edited January 2014
Prem teams would be buying him for what he could be rather than what he is right now but agree they wouldn't have been impressed today. 5M is small fry for a premier league club.
  • Was his worst game in a CAFC shirt but everyone was poor apart from Wood imo.
  • Nothing to see here just a bad night at work move on.
  • He Didn't hide (unlike some) tonight

Bad night will do him as much good as a good night - it's all about learning and he'll learn

Yeah, he'll know he didn't do well but I am sure it will make him try harder next time. Even experienced and established players had bad days yesterday, he's got time on his side - lots of it.
  • The boy is going to be a great player. I would like to see him move in in 2 years time with 3 seasons of first team championship football and go for a fee that benefits our club, and to a team that will benefit him, a future England player one would hope.
