From sky sports -

A number of clubs are monitoring Charlton defender Michael Morrison's contract situation at The Valley.

Sky Sports understands several Championship sides and Scottish giants Celtic are keeping tabs on highy-rated centre back Morrison.

The 25-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and as yet there has been no new offer of a new deal at Charlton.

The news has alerted a host of sides to Morrison's possible availability with the 25-year-old establishing himself as one of the best defenders outside the Premier League.

The former Leicester City and Sheffield Wednesday man has already made over 300 appearances in his career and is vice-captain at Charlton.

Charlton are thought to be keen to keep Morrison, but could find their resolve tested this month as his suitors weigh up moves for the player.

not good, we need Morrison. So far however, it is only "interest".

  • Agent alert
  • Didn't realize he had made so many league appearances to date.
  • this is probably just agent talk... trying to get him a contract sorted
  • Worrying. As is the interest in Stephens, a vastly improved player this season. Is this a sign of a mass clear-out?; Liege fans were angered when Duchatelet sold some of their best players.
  • Exactly. His contract situation would have been well known to any interested party for a long time. That this comes out so soon after a takeover and with new contracts being negotiated stinks of an agent trying to stir (and dip his grubby fingers in) the pot.
  • His agent would be doing MM a diservice if he wasnt being linked with some half decent clubs. 6 months contract and all that...

I think he would be best placed signing up with us again and rediscovering his form of last season.
  • Depends on what money is on the table both coming in for him and what RD puts on the table. As Tekkers says probably agent talk pushing to seal the contrack, seriously don't see him s a Champions League player for Celtic next season, so doubt thats true. He's not irreplacable.
  • Agent waffle strikes again.

Chrissy said his priority was to get players signed up who were coming out of contract and the success of this is going to be just as important as the players we bring into the club.
  • With so many of our squad out of contract, Duchatalet hasn't really got a lot to sell in the way of players and if so would be for pittance, wouldn't really make sense and would make relegation a huge gamble, I just can't see it. Hope these contract situations are sorted asap.

  • Definitely agent talk. Don't worry . it's to be expected.

It might do, it might not. It's the transfer window players out of contract in the summer who have agents to find them employment or force things to a head at their existing clubs. Who knows what negotiations have been going on in the past 6 days since the takeover. CP rates MM highly and I am sure will be doing all he can to tie him to the club, relax everyone ffs.
  • Not a surprise that loads of 'interest' comes about when Powell has been (hopefully) given funds to sort contracts out.

Maybe the players with some interest will be the more urgent deals, so Morrison is hoping to bump himself up a bit.
  • Expect a load more such stories until the contract situation is sorted. Just his agent putting pressure on us to make an offer ASAP. Anyway who knows if we will now be able to attract better players.
  • I expect it's just gossip generated by agents at this stage, although Tone and friends didn't do us any favours by letting the contracts of Morrison, Wiggins, Yann and Stephens go into their last 6 months. Against that, Stephens probably wouldn't have signed anyway and they did, at least, agree extensions with some of the younger players.

In addition, the takeover means that other clubs will not regard us as being in a hopelessly vulnerable position, which we would have been in had the deal not gone through. As a result, if our resolve is to be tested, it's more likely to be with a serious (rather than a derisory) offer.

3 points above the relegation zone in the January transfer window, does not seem the best time to deconstruct the team. Surely, strengthening the team sufficiently so that it does not get relegated has got to be considered in this situation.

Still waiting to be reassured by a Duchelet player move.
  • Defo agent pressure. Morro is ok but not that good to be sure - he sounds bloody marvellous which is rather like es**te agent speak (apologies to all our EA friends) ;-)))

If his plan is to sell lower end championship players with six months left on their contracts, I'm surprised that he's rich.

Hardly, this is an effect of the previous board not renewing contracts last summer (at the latest) when they should have (but clearly couldn't afford)

No offence to Morrison, but if Celtic are after him that's a pretty damning comment on the state of Scottish football

  • Players agents now know they can deals at Charlton, so will try and up the money by planting stories, its just how the game works
  • It might be agent talk, but that still doesn't mean it is unlikely that teams are looking around. Michael Morrison is a young-ish player with a LOT of experience under his belt and most certainly can play. Teams in the Championship would be daft to not be looking at a player like him.
  • With only six months left on their contract their agents are free to talk to other clubs !
  • after last season i thought we might want to sell him to buy one or two decent players but now we need to keep him. if we can keep the spine of the team then that will be good. whilst stephens may be good, we have cousins signed to a contract and we coudl buy ap layer or two who is decent to replace stephens. morrison, dervite, hamer, alnwick, wiggins, kermorgant, jackson, are all players we need to keep. we could potentially mould the squad around that in the summer. all we have to do is survive and we can look to get promotion next season.
  • Let's just remember that RD knew the player contract situation when he negotiated with TJ & Co. The complete lack of noise from the new owner makes me think that the deal hasn't been completed yet! Now there's a thought.
  • Unfortunately, Jonny, I think that that can now be classed as wishful thinking!
  • Ain't going to happen ...bet he will stay

I think calydon suggested that contracts exchanged and awaiting completion. A quick check at companies house shows that Tony Jiminez and Martin Prothero are no longer directors as of today.

I think the most likely answer is that there is a new director to be appointed who will be in charge of player contracts. I suspect RD is fully familiar with the contract situation and views this as an advantage. Not ITK - just that I think that if he or his new sporting director can quickly form an opinion of the squad and ensure that we re-sign the top 5 on the list it looks good.

Then we simply have to wait and see who might be added either now or over the summer.
