All this ITTV versus CL is all very boring and childish. Everybody is entitled to their opinion whether it is pro Powell or anti Powell. There is no need for personal insults on either side.
Me and you should have a pint sometime Dick, agree with of your both comments!
Back to the TV show, Identifying systems and a teams pattern of play is fairly straightforward after a bit of practice. The skill of it for professionals is getting your system, plan and most importantly team selection, correct for the next match. Excellent as Jonathan Wilson's knowledge is ("Inverting The Pyramid" is excellent in itself), he is merely identifying how a team has played after the event with no future consequences.
CP has had the responsibility of coming up with a tactical plan to win a lot of matches now , using his knowledge, experience and management skills. He is doing that on a weekly basis against fellow professionals, some with vast experience (Mick McCarthy for example in the last match). His tactical acumen will piss all over a journalist without that sort of professional background. It isn't a contest. Jonathon Wilson will have 1% of a professionals knowledge of systems and tactics. Don't underestimate CP's ability.
I have to say I was a bit bored with it. Talking tactics for an hour did not float my boat.
One of the big problems with us as a footballing nation. Many appear to not know much about tactics or be willing to learn & understand.
Read The Italian Job a few years ago which highlighted the differences between the populations of how we analyse games. Our reports are filled with quotes whilst the plethora of Italian sports papers apparently look more in depth at the tactics of the match.
Thing is CPs tactical knowledge is likely to be worse than a bloke who researches and writes solely about tactics for a living.
We know CP has a lot to learn about tactics but his all round man management, transfer dealings and leadership is superb and something I wouldn't expect some of our muppet fans to understand.
I am neither a muppet or fan of CP.
Paul Merson and the panel on Soccer Saturday summed it up nicely when speaking about Tim Sherwood, football is simple and Tim will keep it simple others over complecaite the game. So what does a Man of CPs experience as a player, coach and manager need to learn about tatics that he should not already know or do you think we should hire someone who researches and writes about tatics to help him out . I think it might be you who is the muppet
Sherwood isn't exactly good support in your position - any manager ignorant of tactics should be highly mistrusted, because tactics is about more than just where a player stands on the pitch - it's about the mentality and philosophy of your game. Without clear direction and without a clear-headed view on how your team plays you won't win games because your players will be as confused as you are.
Powell ain't bad tactically, but I think he's still adjusting to the different playing style of the Championship, given the constraints on his team.

Good thread this, apart from the Reams bashing which is unnecessary.

Also who's Reams and what's ITTV?
