Thing is CPs tactical knowledge is likely to be worse than a bloke who researches and writes solely about tactics for a living.
We know CP has a lot to learn about tactics but his all round man management, transfer dealings and leadership is superb and something I wouldn't expect some of our muppet fans to understand.
Why finish a very good post with an attack on your fellow fans? What is a description of a muppet fan?, just so I can keep an eye out for one. :-)
Quelle surprise... Some of the ITTV mob are tearing into Powell right now...would love to see them on the programme. Would they be out of their depth I wonder?
You're telling lies!! Go on the forum and check please - as of 23.12 nobody is tearing into him - get your facts right.
Well now we are being referred to as pond life scum and dick heads for daring to give CP any backing. That is a fact.
I believe that Reams has a fair number of coaching badges and used to scout for Eddie when he was boss at Cardiff and at his spell at Wrexham. He may not be the most popular of guys but those who know him respect his ability in terms of the professional game of which he was a part unlike most of us forum contributors.
Didn't scout for anyone other than his Dad? Hmm......

I agree now - but not when you first posted - so you stirred something that you didn't need to!
Powell comes across well I think as someone who knows what he is talking about. Would be interesting to see one or two of the loud mouth boo boys get into a discussion with him. I think I know who'd come out on top.
I asked him at a dinner last year why we defend so deep in many games for the last 20 mins - usually when we're ahead- he couldn't answer the question and pretty much said the back 4 did their own thing. I wasn't too please with my answer! Does that help you work out who'd win?

I think you and Reams need to get a room.
That is unless you actually are.........no surely not!

Note the referrals are not to CP - you said ITTV was "tearing into Powell" - tut, tut
Just making the observation that some people will condemn no matter what CP says. Their disagreements with him and his supporters regardless of that entitlement to do so, does not justify their insults.

Fair enough, but nobody was tearing in to him - plain wrong. Anyway, I'm happy to move on. :-)

Ok you win. Powell out, BigAndy in.
I stopped at U16's!! I only say what what was said... As a fan, I was disappointed with the answer - not having a dig at CP - just thought he'd be in charge and not the back 4.

Think you had better re- think that one as it's a bit sad and very lame. But hey if it makes you happy then good luck to ya. Reams judgement was valued by an ex CAFC hero which is good enough for me but clearly not for you m8.

Thinking about it... I'm available, if needed, before the Oxford replay but would rather watch from the stand on Saturday, if on. Better find my puffa jacket. :-)

Sssshhhh. You'll wake Reams.
I feel sorry for you if that's all you can offer to the forum m8 but such is life
Jonathan Wilson knows his onions although zonal marking is actually by Michael Cox! I saw an interview with Wilson once where he went off of a tangent about Egyptian history so not sure his expertise is limited to football.
Anyway, in terms of tactical theory I think Powell was behind the other two on the panel, however it must be remembered that while Powell is experiencing all the different facets of the game (and a particularly tough experience at that), Wilson researches football and tactics for a living and as far as I can see Collins is currently working part time for the SFA.
As with most things, theory is all well and good - and fascinating to boot - but of those three, only one is currently practising (and working wonders IMO).

Dads generally value their sons.
I remember him bitterly criticising the club for ‘failing’ to sign Izale Mcleod. Some time later he was even more bitterly criticising the club for signing him. Hardly the objective and considered opinion of a professional quality scout. The fact that he only ever worked for his dad speaks volumes.
And the further fact that he, if you read his posts, allows his views to be totally clouded by insane-level bias speaks even louder.
I think people get totally carried away with tactics and formations, they are important but only part of the bigger picture.
I heard Pele talking about this on a documentary the other day and he was asked what his favored formation was, he replied, "I don't care about good formations only about good footballers."
Let's be honest, you could ask Spain or Brazil to play 4-5-1 3-5-2 or whatever and they would still destroy most oppositions because they have superb footballers who are brilliant on the ball no matter how they are set up.
Sure, a tactical change can impact a game but not as much as one side having a team of very good footballers and the other side only a couple!
I think its very interesting the way the Dutch view this, they really do not label their young players as "defenders" "midfielders" "strikers" or whatever, they see them only as footballers and that they should be able to play in any position or tactical formation.
Guess it's easy to sit and say "so and so is pony drop the cunt" but it's another thing knowing it but having to manage that person day in day out knowing that maybe you might need that person to step up one day and be fully committed. Powell might not b the best tactician but as someone else said earlier it isn't all about that.
Powell is still learning and he's managing at this level currently as it is his level at the moment, but only cos hes earnt it. He's only got 3 years experience and learning the tactics can come - more experienced managers haven't done what he did in league1 in their career let alone first full season. And if he don't improve tactically then he's found his level. Hopefully he hasn't and he will learn.

Or alternatively, he recognises that the back 4 are human beings and not computer sprites for him to manipulate at will. When you're under pressure you tend to revert to instinctive behaviours, even if you've got your boss on the sidelines trying to give you different instructions. You can try and develop new instinctive behaviours with lots and lots of training, but that's a lot more difficult to do when you're having to co-ordinate those behaviours across several different people. (And that's before we get into the joys of having to change formations due to injury, suspension, trying to counter opposing tactics etc).
Just making the observation that some people will condemn no matter what CP says. Their disagreements with him and his supporters regardless of that entitlement to do so, does not justify their insults.
Better have a word with Valley Gary then
Awwwwww alright grass.
'Muppet fans' wasn't even in reference to ITTV. AFKA has asked us not to stir things up with them several times so as it's his website I've refrained from doing so, even though I've had personal comments made about me over there months ago. He's probably giving me shit right now (he has some weird obsession with ladyboys and wanting to meet up apparently) but I honestly couldn't give a f**k.
The muppet fans were in reference to some of this shite I had to endure around me when I went to both home games over Xmas. Everyone's entitled to an opinion and my opinion is that if you can't see CP's overall ability rather than simply concentrating on his tactical nous then you are a muppet. The north upper where I sat seems to have its fair share unfortunately.

And you didn't. I honestly don't understand people who go on forums just stir things up a bit.
All this ITTV versus CL is all very boring and childish. Everybody is entitled to their opinion whether it is pro Powell or anti Powell. There is no need for personal insults on either side.

If CP is replaced by our new owner what on earth will the to forums use as a stick to beat one another ?
