  • I'm sorry, but this is total nonsesnse.

At the end of last season we were voted community club of the year.
At the beginning of this year, we were on a shortlist of four for World Community club of the year.

And as recently as 3 days ago, the CEO of the CAFC was given an MBE in the New Year's Honours list!

How is that "alienation of community activities"?
  • Definitely chancers but if truth be told we would have been in a far worse state as a club without them.

For that alone I give my thanks.
  • Thanks for Chris Powell, thanks for Yann, thanks for Wiggins et al, thanks for a great season. It won't be forgotten any time soon that, barring some questionable events behind the scenes, during their reign supporting Charlton became something to be hopeful about rather than miserable.

Having said that, reading that Tony Jimenez was no longer going to be associated with our club sent a wave of wellness through me akin to finally throwing off a long hangover
  • when you actually look at it, it was a house of cards. they spent 300k on a striker, as a plan to win promotion, with powell i ncharge and winning the first 4 games we all thought it could be it. it turned bad and they knew they couldn't sack powell since he was a legend. carl jenkinson and rob elliot being sold (compensation for jenkinson) left atleast 1 million to play with. we spent that on 3 players, if you remember wiggins, green and stephens. we got freebies like hayes, kermorgant later on, hollands, eull, cort, taylor, mikkel alonso (absolute shite). they did do good by investing further and buyin hamer(usin elliot money on him), morrison who was a great buy and top class defender. they increased the wage budget in all areas. powell was allowed to buy who he wanted and get his team. they invested small amounts in other areas as well, like the big screen and the academy, which was good to do. they got a good vibe and in jauary when we had a slight dip, they let us get haynes to get over the line as our second half of the season was not as good(still great though). they didn't spend an absolute fortune but were good owners. football for a fiver was also initiated, so first full season to pmarks to them. and from thsi point, invest in another to pstriker, maybe 2m to spend on players and rally everyone, surely promotion was a good bet. they waited ages to sign someone, powell even said it was fustrating. eventually we added to the squad, wilson, fuller, button and dervite seemed liek good signings. not kerkar, cook tho. then they clearly didn't invest much into other areas. not only this but screwed up with the stephens saga, bluffin their way to no money. There were also problems with the backroom staff and board with lots of longserving members leaving). they didn't capitalise on a great first season, instead they stagnated. we recovered fro ma poor start to do decent and eventually we were flying. once again they had a chance to do well if we jsut bought a top striker and maybe a midfielder and a winger also. however this didn't happen. we instead released alot of the squad and left it threadbare, only a few contracts were signed and we lsot nathan jones to brighton (to be fair nothign they could do about that). The season started poorly and sordell was a flop.. so far i hope. they have been greedy recently with takeover demands. now the club is in a weak position. the ownership was basically a plan that went wrong. now the season either eds in relegation and big problems, or we invest i nthe squad for the first time in a while properly and we go on to finish mid table, the pitch is fixed and powell and the players stay. january will be massive for us, barnsley is am ust win. sorry about the grammar and punctuation.
  • just seen the following on Sky

"In every important respect we leave the club in a far better state than when we took over three years ago" MS

i dont think any of the credit for the sterling work done in the Community lies with either TJ or MS. but each to their own opinion, i wont call yours nonsense.
  • Quite shocked by some comments. Shows how quickly people forget where we were when they took over.

I doubt at the outset if their goal was to inject a further ~£20m in debt into the club before passing it on to the next 'greater fool', whilst perhaps not even getting their debts repaid at par (we'll see in due course).

So what are we supposed to be grateful for? Their hubris and gross underestimation of the costs and risks of running a middling football club?
  • Thanks from me. I am not itk but they seem to have taken us to a better place than they found us.

  • On a purely footballing basis they can't really have any criticism (outside of the final year where everyone knew they'd run out of money).

The League One winning year was one of my favourite seasons as a Charlton fan, largely down to their (maybe KC's) backing and appointment of Powell.

Behind the scenes stuff i'm sure will come out more in the years to come, but they did save us from becoming Sheffield United.

I think we should be grateful for the fact that they have reduced the annual losses, signed all of the top u24 players on long term deals and left the new owners great flexibility for next seasons squad. I expect from numbers quoted they have made or lost c.£5M and that they have enabled this "greater fool" to have a crack at the play-offs in 16 months.
I have always maintained that the risk to the club was never with this lot. But with the next and we all know how pressures and poor decisions can impact as you go higher up the food chain.
Name one other board in Charlton's history who own the club and make just one football managerial change in 3 years plus bringing in Paul Hart
  • On the playing side we are in a better position than when they took over, but we are not in a better playing position than at the end of last season due to the lamentable decision to let key players go.

on the non playing side getting rid of loyal employees, who knew how to run key aspects of the club, was disastrous to say the least and the moral of those who were left was at rock bottom.

The PR was quite frankly disgraceful treating the supporters, in my eyes, with utter contempt, so no, I will not be thanking them for dragging my beloved club into a state of despair.

I will give RD a fair chance, I hope that someone has his ear to tell him what an unique club he has bought, and that he listens and understands.
  • Thanks to TJ and MS, feck off Kevin Cash cos his greed and unwillingness to top up his investment almost brought us to our knees!

  • "on the non playing side getting rid of loyal employees, who knew how to run key aspects of the club, was disastrous to say the least"

    Evidence of this please
  • They brought in CP so I will be eternally grateful for that masterful stroke.

Post Cash withdrawal of support, Jimensz and Slater have not been impressive.

Not elated for the sale to Duchalet. It remains to be seen whether we will be thanking Jimensz and Slater for this.

I just hope they have picked the right buyer for the club and not themselves. If they make the wrong choice then their achievments will be irrelevant on the other hand It could be the best thing that has happened to this club for a while if they choose correctly.

  • Thanks from me. I am not itk but they seem to have taken us to a better place than they found us.

    ditto

What about the metaphor of the whole.dammn kitchen was burning down and we now gotta.rescue what we can?

Factors such as.the pitch and the barnsley debacle, the treatment of individuals and the non paying of household bills are.for more.important to me than any player (cult legend albeit)

selr keep.the faith. Who is to say this.reza fella is not the dogs bollix (reza ghoonchibollix copyright calydon.road btw)? Whose to say RD hasnt decided to that our "keep it tight and knock it up to yann" gameplan can be improved with a few.loannees?

MS let league game get called and of all you true supporters (me not im just an exile!) Got given the run around for less than grand it is alleged by the groundstaff (NWcorner has said PP approached the board with a request for pitch covers a week before that game (if misquoted.i apologise).

that would have come out of his own pocket.

i dont care the game got pulled...sheet happens. i care about the blatant horseshit in the week before saying its deffo on dont worry

Was more tongue in cheek after hearing the Yann news.

But honestly, outside of the pitch getting repairs it doesn't feel all that different. No new players coming in except for Belgium League's reserves and no contracts sorted out still.
