Yann

What's happened?!

By all accounts he looks unfit and poor in recent games, he just looks so unlike himself. Why?

In my opinion he also looks disinterested and that was never a word I would have associated with the guy, so I'm confused.

I feel like there's something going on behind the scenes here, against Ipswich he looked down and just generally pissed off!

  • It's tough to run with so many CL tongues up his arse.
  • Think he needs to drop down to the bench, both Sordell and Church have shown more in recent offerings.

    No player is undroppable.
  • He's probably pissed off because almost everyone around him is shit.
  • It could just be the fact that he is FRENCH! They are somewhat known for their poor temperament. It could also be down to how poor the service has been to him this year.
  • It might have something to do with his contract situation. The thought that he might end up at Bolton.

Sorry but "by all accounts he looks ..disinterested" is just not true.

I haven't seen anyone say that but if they have they are in a minority and wrong. Not fully fit yet? Maybe but he is getting whacked on the ankle every game.

But he is still invloved and working hard from what I saw at Yeovil.

His touch doesn't seem to quite be there and he's not as dominant in the air but "disinterested"? No.
  • I don't think he looks disinterested. It just seems at the moment he either receives the ball in the air or as soon as he has it at his feet he is walloped. Last week against Ipswich he must have been fouled half a dozen times and Im sure his ankle is being targeted. Other teams know he is still our talisman and if you stop Yann then you pretty much stop us.

Maybe there's something in this , he slides a beautiful ball through to Spongefoot at Reading and he sees another fluff , it must be frustrating

I can sympathise with this view having been put with Big Tim and Crazy Cesare in 5 a side on Friday.
  • Fair enough Henry, poor phrasing. Edited.

I thought he played our most intelligent passes today. The team (Stewart apart) looked flat footed and I think people need to move better around him to make use of the flicks and through balls.

It would appear that Yann still has an ankle injury and this is being targeted by the opposition. We do hit it long to him to much though and our best periods were when we actually played it out.

We are also having all the luck of a team near the bottom. I still don't think we are anywhere near as bad as the team that went down under Parky/Pardew. We clearly lack confidence but the fight has not gone (yet!).

  • To me he didn't look match fit. I'm sure he will get there and get back to his best, it does take time though.
  • I get the impression that he has come back early, plus he is getting wacked every game. Last season when he came back from injury he was a bit like an oil tanker, slow to get going and the same maybe be true now, plus he is getting neither the service or support that he had last year. On top of that his contract runs out soon and there are no talks going on. None of which is motivational.
  • Did we play him deep again yesterday?
Wonder if thats part of his problem.
  • He is simply going through a patch of poor form. It isn't the first time and it won't be the last - we just notice it so much because he is so often the one that stands out for effort and threat. The issue is, do you drop him and give him a rest, or continue starting him and hope that he plays himself back into form? If we had a surfeit of good strikers I would say rest him; but we haven't, so I would stick with Yann and support him 100% until he comes good again.
  • My dad said to that he read somewhere that kermo and jacko have already been told there is no contract for next season :-/
  • I definitely don't think he is disinterested. I do think that he is probably frustrated.
  • My mate met the team after the game as Danny green took his boys shirt before the game in the warm up to get it signed by all the players and he said that kermit, Morrison and Wilson looked absolutely gutted about the result.

Whoever flagged this as 'Abuse' needs to have a day off.

Yann is still our best player and as long as he is in our starting eleven will be a threat to any defence. Yes I have my tongue fully wedged up his arse.

  • Overated player in my opinion. Capable of good and one of the best headers of a ball I have ever seen. However, not mobile enough for me.

This, I love the guy for his commitment and he seems to love Charlton but he is League 1, bottom half of the Championship at best.
  • My problem with Yann at the moment is he's not getting into the box enough.

He was equal top scorer last season, but now seems to be playing as a midfielder.
  • He's always going to have to work extremely hard to keep at his optimum weight. One or two kilo's extra is going to have a big effect on his mobility and jumping ability. He looks at least a kilo over to me just looking at pictures. I'll be able to judge him better on Saturday when I see the boys for the first time this season.
  • I love Yann, I just think teams have sussed him/us out. Guy on his toes, guy behind, make us okay long. 2v1, one outcome.
  • He's overweight and I don't think that's helping. My dad hadn't seen Charlton in a while when I took him to Reading and he didn't recognise Yann. Definitely carrying some timber. He's certainly a very good player though; when Yann gets on the ball there's hardly anyone who can play defence-splitting passes as expertly as Yann and even fewer who can play them so quickly. Church's two chances against Reading came as a result of sublime balls from Yann. Last season people were saying he wasn't good enough when he was coming back from his broken foot, and he scored goals and played superbly to drag us up the table
  • He's a Championship player no question. Was far far too good for League One.

Agreed, Neither Premiership nor League 1 is he,
    'cause he's Championship you see!

  • Not at his best at the moment but give him time. For me he, is or at least was, more than a "bottom Championship player at best". Apart from Solly he's our best player in the last few years.
  • Perhaps the thought that he might be out of work in a few months time is playing on his mind. I know it would on mine.
