Amdy Faye kicking the ball off the pitch and shrugging his shoulders as we tumbled out of the cup in the QF v Wycombe is my barometer for a '0'!
I like the stat bank but always think fans do rate players based on result. Classic example was Donny a couple of weeks ago where I thought Donny were so unbeleivably poor that what I felt was an average performance by our lot saw us win 2-0 and our players receive high scores, Church was given 9 by a number of people having missed, probably 3 great chances you would expect a striker to score.
I don't think giving a 1 or a 2 is a bad thing if they truly deserve it no more than it is giving an 9 or 10. But I think there should be some rules (idiot proofing if you like) for players to score a very low mark for example then it could only be possible if we lost my more than 5 goals and/or they were sent off. Maybe if they lose by a high amount they all lose a certain number of points each, if they score an own goal they lose 2 if they concede a penalty they lose 2 if they get sent off they lose 4. Score a goal plus 1 score a hatrick plus 3, keep a clean sheet plus 3 for goalie plus 2 for defenders etc etc. for a defeat no player should score more than 7 for a win no player (unless they were sent off) should score less than 4. And each very high/very low score needs to be justified by the scoring system. Opinion and perspective should not be stopped though so these rules shouldn't be any more restrictive than this.
With statistical analysis you generally ignore anomalies. For example if 100 people give marks and 80-90% people are in the 3-9 range and a few people are in the 0-2 or 10 range then you might not include them as they are 'statistical anomalies'. If you are interested look up standard deviation on wikipedia. Basically you chop the responses either side of the bell curve.
Me and Lanc Lad will have a private conversation about it. In theory, the amount of people voting properly should mean that any silly outliners (either positive or negative) don't get to have any impact. That becomes more of an issue in the aways when naturally fewer people give marks.
Others might think i'm taking it too serious, but i'm immensely proud of our Statbank. Despite doing it a number of years, it still hasn't been copied by any other club fansite which i thought would happen, and over time it will provide a fantastic statistical history of games / players time with the club.
If you don't currently submit marks, please do, and please don't use it as an excuse to 'punish' after a defeat. Use the Views thread for that if you have to.
thanks
it may surprise you to know that I have never ever looked at the Statbank.
I didn't even know we had one until I opened this thread!

I advise all to read it is very informative, for example I never knew we had 60% Possession against Ipswich
how about a system like in diving/skating ... take out the bottom and top marks .. so ... assume that in any given game the highest mark for a player is 8 (there were, say nine 8s) and the bottom mark a 2 (say there were three 2s) .. the three 2s are cancelled out by three of the nine 8s, leaving the player to be assessed on only six of his eights but none of his twos ... Where is Stephen Hawking when you need him ?
