  • lots of new owners manage not to destroy the culture of their club, some even get to the premiership without leaving their ground, like that lot down the road in Croydon?

How many people did they knock along the way? They only didn't move ground due to some pretty sinister blackmail, if I recall correctly.

As long as we can get owners who have some money. I personally prefer owners similar to Man City.

You mean owners who rip the heart and soul out of football teams.
Yeah great just what we want(not).
How have they ripped the heart out of the club?

They moved (I think) before they came in and in any case to what I think is a good stadium.

They haven't changed the name, colours or badge.

They have stopped City being a bit of a joke and won them their first trophy since 1971 and first title since 1968.

I'm not saying that is what I want for Charlton or that new owners have to be that rich or big spending but I can't see how they have damaged City.
  • tell me more, but you get the point I take it?
  • I said to the people on my table I was very surprised neither him or Slater bothered to turn up on Sunday, They are supposed to be in charge of the club and cant be bothered to turn up for something remembering one of the key parts of our clubs history, To me that proves neither of them care about us.

    Have to agree

  • But they moved to the City of Manchester stadium before Sinatra or the current lot were running the Club

    "realistic expectations"
Having followed this club for over 45 years i dont have high expectations----generally they are:

We win a few at home
    We score a few goals
I enjoy the football a few times a season
We wont have a cup run
We will have a budget for transfers that is high the some unknown Northern Pit Prop team
We will sell our good player if a GOOD offer comes in

i think the above is realistic.

    Agreed 100%

    I would add

An unexpected home defeat against a shit Northern bottom 3 side (three times a season)
Lol lose at home three times a season to the bottom three sides. Realistic indeed.

The only part not so realistic is the 'unexpected' part. :-)
  • They did change the badge, didn't they? Or maybe the previous owners did. Whatever, the old one was good and the new one is the sh**est one in the entire football world - what is it supposed to be, exactly? It looks like the kind of label you would find on discount generic sportswear in the bargain bin at JB Sports!

However, I don't think you will find many citeh fans that aren't pleased with how things have gone with their new owners, and whats more, as well as bringing them trophies, they appear to appreciate the role the club plays in the local community and have supported lots of great initiatives with hard cash. What's not to like?

    Previous. Changed in 1997

I disagree. I don't believe owners can not destroy the culture of a club, only its fans have that power.

Yeah great just what we want(not).
So you don't want owners who improve the club year on year.

You don't want owners with lot's of money.

I assume you don't want owners who are skint.

What, exactly, do you want from a club owner?
I want owners that help to improve the club without destroying our soul prime examples Swansea and Everton

IMO before they came in City were a good club and liked by other now hated by everyone because they brought the league that is what I dont want.

    I don't hate them.

And if fans of other clubs hated Charlton because we were winning things I would not be able to care less, especially if they were Millwall or Palace fans.

So really they haven't damaged City at all, they have just made fans of other clubs, maybe, hate them a bit because they are jealous of their success.

Not that I think we'll ever have that problem but it's really nothing to blame City's owners for.
  • They may be hated by everyone else, Paulie, but do they really care? After all, people dislike them because they got squillions of quid, bought incredible players (who now play incredible football) and won the league. I wouldn't mind being hated like that!

And, as Henry just clarified, they weren't even responsible for the travesty of a badge that the club now has. If other (let's face it, jealous) football fans' views of the club are the worst thing that can be said of citeh's current regime, then it can't really be that bad, can it?
  • City are far from hated. Majority of their core support has had more than its share of tough times and now they're having their time in the sun (and then some!)
  • I like Citeh, the support has stayed pretty much the same since the move from Maine Road.

I don't care about City either way, but I did read David Conn and Colin Shindler's books about the takeover there and how it has affected their respective support (negatively). Conn's book is more analytical, Shindler's more autobiographical. But they are both lifelong City fans who are deeply unhappy with the way their club is now.

Me neither. Their supporters for the most part have stuck with them through thick or thin, usually the later. All this in the shadow of one of the world's biggest and most successful teams when it would have been very easy to walk away.

    Play decent football too!

  • City were still managing 30k in the third tier , always had decent support , we'd have a lot more newbies if we ever tried to buy success
I like City winning things because I know Chelsea , Man United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs fans and rather than them chirping up giving it the big one City win it and I don't know any of their fans

I think your expectations are very reasonable, unfortunately, in the mad world of football, we have to acknowledge that these ambitions are only achievable if someone else is prepared to simply give away millions and millions of pounds of their own money in order that you (and all the other fans) can enjoy the achievement of these very modest dreams.

I suspect many like yourself GH stuck at for the days out and escapades along the way. Without those the football alone probably would not have been enough.
  • If we ever 'buy the league' like City I'll be over the moon. Sod everyone else. I'm happy for City, they deserve some success, it's not that long ago they were struggling in the third tier. Good luck to them,
  • They won't listen to us.
  • When we won League One I remember some fans of other clubs in the division claiming we'd "bought" the title.

    I didn't care then and I don't care now.

Money doesn't guarantee success in football although it certainly helps. Why shouldn't we have our turn shopping at Waitrose after years of going to Lidl (or food banks more recently).
  • Still stand by this.

    Slater and Jimenez out!!!!
  • Do us all a favour Tony, just FUCK OFF..................

    Totally agree .
