This is the lowest i have felt as a Charlton supporter since 08/09. Including the league 1 years. There is a feel of pending doom with rumours of hope to torture the soul.

If chris Powell goes, whether its right or wrong i can see the club collapsing all round us.

A win on saturday please. Just for the soul.

Yeovil`s manager will be telling them to get at us early on and try to nick the first goal and we will have no answer to it.

then the answer is simple...........CP has got to do the same. Saturday is no time to sit back & defend. Yeovil don't score many goals either so we need to do an Ipswich & go out all guns blazing for the first 20 mins. Maybe try something different and play 3 up front - try to score the first goal (or two !!!) and then let Yeovil try to break us down.

Although in an earlier post I defended CP and blamed the owners for putting us in this position by stupidly letter our strikers leave in the summer & not spending ANY money (apart from wages) on bringing any one decent in, we are now in this position & its down to CP & the team to get us out. They all have to grow some & be BOLD. As per our recent run of form , the first goal wins.............

  • I thought after the Donny game we would come out all guns blazing against Ipswich but we didn`t and we didn`t last night either so it isn`t as simple as we think.

    Just on the way back,

The first 60 mins were no different to Ipswich at home, no cohesion, poor in possession and toothless.

3 changes changed the game with a minute, credit to go to all three who showed a real urgency and attacking threat (yes including Sordell) and you wouldn't have begrudge us a point, the difference was startling.

I think it shows in the results tonight and our second performance that anyone can take anyone and we are to timid in how we play at times

Fantastic support especially in the second half - never stopped, and would have been worthy of a result on its own, the reading fans didn't know what hit them 2nd half

We're up against but at least the last 25 minutes made it look like we would be up for it!

This sums it up for me. I didn't go, had to rely on the bbc website for my updates. Up until the 60 minute mark, we'd had about 3 shots, 1 on target. Once the subs came on and we realised we're going home with nothing anyway, we peppered their goal and went for it. Granted we still lack that bit of quality in the final 3rd, but if we go for it from the start (I thought we did against Doncaster), then we have a chance.

If you look at Ipswich, they came racing out the blocks against us, we didn't have an answer for it and were caught out. I don't know if it's a change in mindset that is needed for how we start games, but we all know by now that anybody can beat anybody in this league.

Given how poor we are up front, I know that as soon as we go behind, it looks very unlikely that we can get a win (Leeds, Ipswich, QPR). In fact I think it is only Barnsley and Forest who we've come from behind against to take anything from the game.
  • Can't remember the last time we won a penalty. Opposition players seem to know they can foul ours with no sanction.
  • Just got in and having a glass of port, it's plain to see we are so disjointed, the players don't look like they believe in each other, Yann just don't look interested, found it a bit emotional tonight standing side by side my son singing since I was Young with him, two generations singing the same song and the words so so poignant, that's why I love Charlton, every so often even in defeat it gives you memories you will never forget. I fuckin love that song and for each and everyone of you that sung it non stop for the last 20 minutes také a bow, you did the team proud.

Ha! me too with Idle Jr. My vocal stamina is lacking though - how you can keep going for that long non-stop is a mystery to me.
The singing turned what would have been a very poor night in to a great one, just not quite great enough.

    Golf,

Ignoring your normal pessimism and cynicism for a moment you must (as someone that works in lending) understand what happens when one has no more money and no more lines of credit!

It is clear that the owners just don't have the funds to sign the players we need. Maybe there is something to be said about signing Church and Sordell late, as the same money that they cost might have been better spent on someone else but if there is just no more money what are they expected to do?

If you have a client that wants to buy a £1m house and only has £200k deposit and can only borrow £600k do you demand that they just magic the other £200k out of thin air?

It's not as though they are turning down realistic offers to sell the club every week. If there is, for example, another investor who will not sell unless he gets all his money out then there is absolutely nothing they can do, and if they have no more money they can't sign any more players.

I'm as happy to look for someone to blame as the next man, but sometimes things just don't go as planned and there is no quick solution.
  • f@cking ref. no bottle cos he would of had to send the player off.
  • FFS after seeing the video thats really pissed me off. I thought it was a pen last night but you can never be sure as it was down the other end. Ref you **n*

  • I have now been to the QPR and Reading games and its quite obvious to me that we are paying far too much respect to these so called bigger teams. It seems to dawn on us when we get to half time that we can actually compete with these sides but by then they have shut up shop and it then leaves us a huge mountain to climb in the second half.
  • It doesn't surprise me that we are not scoring goals. Is there anyone currently in the team who can run at the defense and unleash an accurate shot on the run? Stewart?? perhaps. We are relying on long balls through to Kermo or Church. attacks need to be mounted with pace from the wings or from midfield.

This 100%. Our team is not that bad, we can compete against anyone in this league but we start games too negatively. I dont care how good QPR are on paper they were shit and we could have easily got something out the game if we had some belief.

  • Definite penalty, no doubt about it. Jesus Christ.

Saw the rest of the highlights and if Church would just put his foot through the ball sometimes...

  • Church is not the answer

I beg to differ. If the take-over doesn't transpire prayer will be all we have left.

The shooting was appalling last night. Wilson summed it up in the last minute.

In fact, we probably would have missed the pen if we'd been given it.

All those calling for Evina to play on the left with Wiggins have gone quiet , one game I know but sounds like a proper stinker

SCP shuffles the pack this way and that way and tries it all but no matter who we play in general we're pony as a whole

Give Sordell a run I say , spongefoot has had a good run of games but needs too many chances
  • I think the relegation of Sordell to the bench and brief cameos is a cunning plan by Powell to sign up a £3m player on the cheap by getting him on a pre-contract deal in January. He was quality last night.

I don't think Evina had a stinker, but accept that his inclusion did not add a great deal, if anything, but that is the problem about being players outside of the playing squad. How much football has Evina had this season // ? A few reserve outings? Having seen the reserves for the first time ever at Sparrows Lane on Monday that would be no preparation for 1st team action. It takes a few games for a player to be match ready. That said I am not a fan of having Evina as a midfield player.
  • Agree Kap , the lack of regular reserve fixtures for players must be so tough for players to pick up the pace of the game if they're not playing regularly

  • Just one observation. Church and Stewart spent extra time in the warm-up practicing their shooting and very few were on target. I know this doeasn't mean very much, but it didn't inspire me with any confidence that we were going so see a much better performance later. How I wish my pessimism had proved wrong!

He needs opportunities. He's a Defoe type player rather than a poacher. I like him.

And he will be spot on, won't he?
  • Had to endure a bus journey back full of Reading fans laughing at Church.
No point running your arse off if your not stretching defence, slow and can't control the ball.

    'can't control the ball'

  • Well, yes, he can control it with his arm/hand.
  • Church has an excellent first touch. It's one of his real qualities. Saying otherwise shows a hilarious lack of understanding

Wasn't at the game last night but pleased to hear we gave it a good go and put in a decent performance on the whole.

I still think we will survive this division IF we keep Chris Powell.

However, a loss to Yeovil on Saturday will see us in the relegation zone and I do think he will lose his job if that happens. Really does pain me to say that.

Do you ever think we're in 21st place BECAUSE of CP - why will keeping him equal survival? I'm not anti CP, just asking a question. I was there last night and we didn't give it a go until the last 20 and it wasn't a decent performance. Fans sang all night - shame the team didn't get out of the blocks.
  • No, never thought that.
