So why has this thread degenerated into a discourse on retail developments in SE7?

Because our football club has been reduced to a property development opportunity run by estate agents.

  • On the next episode of Being Charlton:

"That's right lads, take it from me... there's no way this takeover can go wrong.... No. No. No. Noooooo!"

  • Haven't been on this thread for the last 30 pages or so. Anything newsworthy? Nope, righto.
  • Local Greenwich councillor John Fahy has just sent this tweet. Found it interesting coming from him.

    Cllr John Fahy ‏@Cllrjfahy 8m

When is Charlton Athletic going to come clean on it future plans for the Club . Important for the Board to clarify the future of the Valley.

Cllr Roberts won't like that!!! ;-)

Could a councillor be doing his job and representing the views of some concerned supporters in Greenwich or have the board been messing around the council?
  • Didn't the council recently say no discussions have been taking place regarding the valley in an foi request?

It's actually more than year ago this was done. A lot of boardroom lunches have been consumed since then

Nevertheless it might be interesting to draw Cllr. Fahys attention to the answer, and ask him why he thinks things might have changed since then.

    Anybody know anything about him?

Only from what I read on 853.com. He's not liked by Chris Roberts - he's part of the voicemailgate. So I found his tweet very interesting.

The story with him and Roberts is partly on here.

  • The dog track was were pc world is i thought? Was also some kind of sports club tennis maybe remember sneaking in there loads when empty as a kid.

PC World is built on the old Stone's sports ground. The dog track was definitely further along, I'm pretty sure where the new Sainsbury's will be.

The old Charlton Dog track is Makros is now.

We all agree, Fahy is in for a kicking.....
  • Was Roberts at the East Kent meeting?
  • Maybe
  • has anyone asked him what he meant or better still tweet the other mug Roberts and ask him his opinion on what has been said
  • none the less, can't deny its an interesting comment , given its unprovoked nature

Yes interesting and why has he done it ?

Do we need to be worried?

  • We're always worried. It's the Charlton way!
  • He doesn't appear to reply directly to tweets. Tho he may pop up with another opinion shortly. Will watch.
Roberts wouldn't be on twitter. Would be afraid of the scorn he would receive.

  • Actually i wonder if he posted it after reading this tweet from The Charlton Society this morning (who had a committe meeting last night):

TheCharltonSociety ‏@TheCharltonSoc 4h Another big issue was a worrying potential threat to relocate The Valley football ground outside Charlton. All were strongly against this.

  • Personnally cannot wait till we move, cannot understand why people are worried.

I heard they're moving it to East Kent.
  • I'm going to put it to the Trust team that we should approach Cllr Fahy and ask him if he can help us understand what's behind his comments.

Which of course does not stop anyone else from asking him, or Roberts come to that, but preferabley those on the Greenwich electoral roll.
  • @darryl1974 who is also a, now rare, poster (inspector sands) on this site is now on the board of the Charlton Society.

Good to see a local group wanting to keep the club in Charlton rather than being NIMBYish.

    John Fahy whoo, ooh ooh
    John Fahy whoo, ooh ooh,
    He comes from Ireland
He fecking hates Chris Roberts (alegedly)

  • Charlton dogs - can't do a link thingy, I'm afraid, but if you google Charlton Greyhound Stadium the sixth item is headed J.Stone etc and on there is a wonderful aerial picture from 1947.

.... and I now notice that amongst several other pictures attached there are some showing the dog track and one which shows The Valley.

  • on the case, well done agent @curb_it

  • We (by which I mean the Valley Party) have history with John Fahy, but it is an interesting tweet.

    Can you remind us?

He's not the little Scottish bastard who tried to lump me after the count? :-)

It would be interesting to know, given the context of the Clubs ownership situation. Fahy would be aware that we are trying to sell the Club to any who can get the right loan from Wonga and therefore the current board would not strictly speaking have any plans for the Valley other than what is in the prospectus. So is there something behind this about ownership that is not in the public domain or is it just an uninformed comment?

    Curiouser and curiouser!
