If this comes off, I'll be feeling a bit nervous. I guess I got over-excited at the thought of an American moneybags, unlimited riches etc. Doesn't this sound a bit underwhelming, or am I just being a bit ungrateful?
We have sold our best players for as long as I can remember.
I know mate. I was just hoping for better things in the future.
Done a bit of searching - at Standard Liege he sold best players and appointed unknown manager after taking over in 2011. Led to protests by fans, but now they are top of the league after summer purchases and fans are more grateful.
He is chairman of a small Belgian political party that believes in a basic living wage.
He is the 18th richest man.....in Belgium.
If it is true, at least we will really know who owns us...

Yes you are.
Focus on the part about Liege being top of the league.
Considering he's paying a reported £14m for a team 'closer' to the riches (of the premier league) I imagine it can only be a good thing when it comes to possible transfers etc
Hang on a minute, are any of us seriously giving stick to a bloke who may or may not have taken us over a nanosecond ago?
Guilty. Sorry, didn't mean it like that. Just musing aloud about the apparent contrast between a billionaire American sports nut and what seems to be a more modest outcome. In reality I will be thoroughly delighted if the new owner has reasonable funds to keep us solvent and to strengthen the squad a little. Plus it will be wonderful to be shot of TJ and Slater and the limping along in a state of near bankruptcy.
Before people panic about him selling off the best players, it's worth noting that Standard Liege are currently 4 points clear at the top of the league. He must be doing something right.
Reminds me of the joke about the chap that goes to see a marriage guidance counsellor, complaining that his wife won't stop waffling. To which the counsellor says "That'll teach you for marrying a Belgian".
My friend who lives in Belgium was watching the news and the national Belgium news channel has just confirmed This, He is a Standard fan and lives in the area, this is a deal done for sure.
Because the new owner sold all the high wage people at Liege is no reason to panic, They was in lots of dept and wasn't doing fab in the league, the next season new managers new players and they are now TOP
Liege had a bigger dept then we do as well, No need to panic

Jesus I work for a Belgian company, I am surrounded by Belgians in my working life & now my team looks like it is owned by them - I might as well move there & start speaking in Flemish whilst drinking copious amounts of strong beer, eating chips & pigging out on chocolate..

Sod the team. As long as we get Belgian beer I'm happy.

A similar multi-club ownership has transformed Watford's aspirations in a very short period of time.

This is a club that has produced and sold on the likes of Fellaini for 15 million quid.
