Still cant get my head round why people have written off Sordell before he has even been given a chance. Playing a few games here and there wont give him the confidence he needs, typical cynical fans jumping on the Sodall name band wagon. They absolutely love a scape goat down at the Valley and on here. If we won the premiership they would still moan about it in some way.
Some people are just born to complain and moan their way through life.

0.21 goals per game
Church is 0.18 goals per game Kermo is 0.25 goals per game
So all these people harping on about Obika need to give the player that we already have a chance. Obika plays for Spurs and Sordell plays for Charlton.
On reflection Rhodes is 0.55 and cost Blackburn £8 Million and has scored 10 already this season. We don’t have that sort of money
If we start creating chances for the forwards then I suspect we will start scoring goals.
A little bit more patience from the fans would help
I understand what you're saying robroy & I think in the main, it's fair comment.
The problem people have had with Sordell, is that he has hardly moved his lazy arse, until the last game he played, when he did.
If Kermorgant stood around all game every game not getting involved (like Saturday when he clearly wasn't fit) then you'd soon hear fans making justified criticism.
Church does not stop running and has hardly set the league alight. I am not saying Sordell is the answer, I just think we would be foolish to write him off at least before the new year. There is a decent player in there somewhere.
There was a guy behind me at the last home game, I thought he was going to have an aneurism. Did not stop shouting "Get Church off, he's rubbish"
At this level both Obika and Sordell have shown us glimpses of quality. Sordell unfortunately has joined a team that is less than firing on all cylinders and what he seems to lack is the ability to make things happen for himself. This maybe the disappointment that Gower remarked on that he suffered having not got a position at Bolton. He does not appear to have the confidence of CP and this cannot help. Having Piggot chosen ahead of him against Millwall can't have been received with joy.
Obika has benefitted from playing in a more confident Charlton side with a couple of, currently absent, quality players. He like Sordell did not have the overwhelming support of CP and hardly started. I am not sure if he would be our answer to the striking problem, any more than Sordell. I am not sure he would have received the service this season that he received in very limited appearances last.
I suspect that Marvin has already packed his bags for a return to Bolton in January, whilst if Obika returns his performances for full 90 minutes will elicit similar responses to those that now praise him.

Though Obika grabbed a couple of important goals last year, I don't think his all round game would bring an improvement to the side. Same as Sordell, whose case is much more surprising.
Said it before - Danny Haynes and Ricardo Fuller would have been great in the squad. Yes, even with the injuries.
Sordell is a bone idle disgrace and should be sent back. Hopefully with the collapse of Bolton's loan deal for the Cardiff chap Doogie will have to recall him anyway, please Doogie, please...
Funny how people see thing differently. I thought Obika was a completely different proposition to Sordell. Obika chased, ran put his weight in and generally imposed himself. I've not seen too much of that with Marvin yet.

Whilst I don't agree with your description I equally can't argue he is money well spent. However we can't send back till January.
Most people know that I have a small connection with Joe Pigott, and like everybody I was disappointed with the way it turned out against Millwall. I believe his instructions were ' go and make a nuisance of yourself ', so off he went charging around the pitch and the rest is history. What he should have been told was ' get yourself on the shoulder of the last defender, and get ready to rumble '. He is a proven finisher, albeit at a lower level, but if you were at Welling you can't have missed three excellent finishes in the first half. The thought in my mind is can we get Kevin Phillips on loan, but no doubt all the Palace haters will be up in arms, god bless them.
I thought he was trying too hard - good learning experience for him and better he works on the elements of his game the first team stint exposed as weak. I don't think he is ready for the first team, but if he shows the right attitude and works hard, he could be better for the experience when his next chance comes. I assume and hope, that we have coaches working closely with him to improve and I wouldn't write him off at all.

just one bad game and far too many 'fans' are keen to rubbish and deride him, this must be soooo demoralising for the young man .. the pity was of course that he was deemed a 'failure' against Millwall of all teams .. he should be given a few more chances (he's not even made the bench recently), at the very least he'll show more effort and passion then Sordell has shown so far
Robroy Maybe, going by those statistics, you could argue that Obika is developing and Sordell is in decline. Apart from his time at watford, he's never had a prolific record anywhere else. How many times do we see promising young players hit their heights early in their career, falling away to lower league/ non-league. With the start Jeffers had to his career at Everton, he should've been a world beater by the time he came to us, but we all know how that ended.
I'm not deluded to think we can go out and pick up someone of the goal scoring calibre of Rhodes, we are what we are, but what I can never get my head around is when a professional footballer (especially one with pace to burn) walks around the pitch, looking like he doesn't give a shit, as long as his wage packet is in his pocket at the end of the week. At charlton, we have always been successful when we have a team of grafters on the pitch, even if they're not the best technically. You cannot afford to be carrying someone, in the hope he'll score a goal every 4 games. Every time I've seen him play, I've come to the conclusion that he's a lazy sod, and going by the amount of times CP has overlooked him, I'm not the only one.
Not saying Obika is the answer (wasn't too excited when we signed him and although he finished the season strongly, I still wasn't convinced).

I thought he looked like a boy against men in the Millwall game, but I predicted as much before kick off. Sadly we had few other options and it was a risk that we had to take.
Having said that I felt sorry for Joe rather than disappointed at him. He did his best and we all (I think) know that there is a lot more to come from him. His time will come but there is no doubt that the Millwall game was too soon for him as derbies are not like other games.
Becchio is a great shout but I'm sure I remember reading that he'd turned down a loan move to The Championship in the summer. We're in November now however, so maybe worth trying.
I don't mind a striker being lazy, if conserving energy makes him a prolific goalscorer like Derek Hales was. But it's no use when a team isn't creating any chances. Haven't seen Sordell yet, but perhaps he's that kind of striker. He certainly buried the chance against Forest comprehensively.
Think starting Sordell in a few games away would help him given not as much pressure on him, he has got to have some goals in him still to come surely.

If Hales was playing now some would say all he does is score goals!!

He was a boy amongst men, but I am sure there is more to come from Joe, but maybe not without careful nurturing and a few development loan spells.

Not much pressure, are you having a laugh, have you looked at the league table lately? We need strikers that can find the net now, not ones that need to bed in for 3 months. Big weekend coming up as all the bottom teams paly each other whilst we are away at a top team.
Every game will have pressure until we are mid table.

Most lads of Joe's age read the forums, but I hope he didn't read this one. I hope his confidence hasn't taken too much of a knock. Chris Powell seems to have back-tracked on all the good things he said about him after the Oxford game, by omitting him from the squad even when Yann's unfit.

Or maybe he's just realised that the time isn't right whilst the team is going through a lean spell and to continually play him now will do him (mentally) more harm than good?
What formation do we want to play? If we want a formation with wingers bombing down the wings, we want a tall poacher who can head the ball and get close range tap-ins but if we want a formation with midfielder passing through the field, we want someone with a bit of pace who can get on the end of through balls.

It wasn't Joes fault that his early inclusion was not what he would have hoped. I actually blame SCP for sticking him in too early and against Millwall it was just pure madness. Not sure if SCP was making a point to the board by including JP but if he was it seems to have backfired on two counts. I'm certain he will come again and show us exactly what he has.
I don't know why there was such joy around these parts when we signed Sordell. I had recently seen him play for both the u-21's and the Olympic team and thought him pants for both. My hopes were not high. Unfortunately they have been shown to be correct.
Read recently Eidur Gudjohnsen (ex Chelsea, Barcelona etc) is still playing. He always played well at the Valley. Wouldn't he be worth a loan offer. Realise he's 35 but perhaps a better prospect than Kevin Phillips!

I remember many on here slating Scott Sinclair after he'd had approximately fifteen minutes on the pitch. I'm not knocking you Large, but I don't think it is possible for us to assess how good this player is until he's actually played for us. He may well go on to have a career above the level we play at and we will have to admit that we had him on loan, gave him a few minutes and wrote him off.
