AP McCoy

Up to 3998 winners after today. Will probably hit 4000 this week. An amazing achievement rarely matched in any sport.

Works his nuts off every day up and down the country. Got a lot of respect for him and pretty much all jockeys in fact.

Probably the only major sport that I don't like. Fair play to him though, always seems to have the respect of his peers.

There was a meeting in Sandown a couple of years ago. They bussed a load of students in to do the dogsbody work.
At the end of the day AP walked up to my son and tipped him 20 quid. I said did you get it signed as a memento. No he said, I spent it on beer. Hmmm, students eh.

    greatest ever jump jockey
  • Agree he is the best jockey no doubt, but the bookies love him as well. You would be down£70 to alevel £1 stake so far this season and that is with a 26% strike rate.Nearly every horse he rides is short in the market as the bookies make sure they have no big liabilities on him.Still he does not make the prices and good look to him when he reaches that milestone which wiil take some beating.Incidentely the top five jockeys all show a loss which shows you what you are up against.

Golfie you could have sat on all 3998 of his winners and wouldn't have won a single one, in fact I'd be surprised if you would stay one once.

It takes great skill to know when to attack and how top place and pace yourself over a distance

Not to mention pretty much putting your health very much at risk every time.

Just mentioned it on ITV news. Referred to all his broken bones, no teeth & the fact that he hardly eats. He eats jelly beans for lunch. Everyone's in awe they said.

    (Apart from one).

Well Hello There (his final ride today) is currently my favourite name for a NH horse. Just try saying it in a slightly lounge lizard way.......

Seen ap ride many winners at cheltenham and elsewhere, class act and tough as they come.
  • Just a shame he has never got to partner , the real class horses during his career on a regular basis, stable jockey for Martin Pipe for a number of years quantit rather than quality and the stable jockey to JP, no real stand out horses since Istibraaq. Great great mně pro mě though.
  • Hot favourite in the 3.10 at Towcester.

    This should be the one.

McCoy is appearing in ads for bookmakers William Hill .. surely this is a conflict of interest, a jockey taking money either direct or indirectly from a bookie for whatever purpose

Not a fan of the man personally. He drops well too many of his rides out the back for me to be backing them. Also, without denying he is evidently a good jockey, I'm pretty sure there's 4 or 5 other jockeys who would have notched up his tally of victories also given the horses and rides he gets everyday, mainly from JP. Furthermore, I do not believe he's anywhere near as strong as 2 or maybe 3 jockeys from Ireland that don't ride here Mon-Fri, if they rode here when Mccoy did with mounts that were rated the same, I'm sure AP wouldn't look as good as he currently does. Just my opinion but can't knock the winners he does get

    Have to disagree.
The problem with Mccoy is that his rides get overbet.
Thats because the guy has the ability to coax a horse to win when it shouldn't.

That's because most people who don't know as much about racing would turn up at the track and just see AP McCoy and back it, or punters who follow him everywhere he goes. He drops well too many of his rides out the back and the occasional one looks an absolute belter of a ride because he's put himself in that position in the first place. If that's instructions from JP or AP making it up himself, i'm not a fan of it.
