In the championship Palarse had a core support of about 14K...maybe a bit less. This has now gone up with about 18k season ticket holders but the add on fans are likely to get peed off supporting a losing team most weeks. So how many of these fairweather fans will stick by palarse when they re back in the champs? They have to refurb or rebuild the Arthur Waite stand at some point unless they are still hoping to move to the Athletic ground. Either move will eat up money but improve their prestige. A shrewd manager like Pullis would probably reshape the team and get them back up again next season so I am hoping they appoint an average twonk like Coleman.
How often does all the money that relegated teams supposedly make from the Premier League really set them up for 5 years?
I don't remember it being that clear-cut ever.
Any money they will make will have little difference if they get relegated. Just look at half of the Championship and some of the teams in League One.
West Brom did it very well, yo-yoing a couple of times but keeping a tight budget and are now a lot better off. Hull have come back up, Blackpool built a new stand and are challenging again this year.
QPR have a very rich owner anyway but are looking good to bounce straight back up.
The teams that tend to suffer are those that have been in the prem a bit longer and so have bigger debts and/or wage bill ie Wolves, Blackburn, Bolton (over £100m in debt) or are run by crooks ie Birmingham, Portsmouth.
So Palace won't be guaranteed promotion but they will have approx £48m more income than us over four seasons from TV money assuming we both stay in the Championship.
Of course they could waste that money completely or they could spend it wisely but they will still have the money, if they choose, to build a good squad, upgrade Selhurst, upgrade their training ground to get Cat 1 status.
The unknown is what liabilities they come down with. Will they have any debt? Unlikely. Will they have a lot of players on high Prem wages they can't get rid of? Possibly as Holloway bought too many players and the new manager may want more.
But financially their prospects are much better than ours as it currently stands. Unfortunately they seem to have finally found some sensible owners who won't do a Goldberg or Jordan, more's the pity.
The increase in parachute money certainly makes a difference and all the more reason for CAFC to look at how to get to Wembley. But they appear to have destroyed squad spirit overnight? And not including one or two players who actually got them there!
I wonder how much of that increased revenue has been spent already on long term contracts for the 15(?) new signings.
I was thinking your way as I watched Palace beat Watford but now it is looking much more fun - especially as I hear Parish wants to get out so more turbulence at board level...perhaps we are watching a slow motion train crash
If we went up in similar circumstances, I'd hate us to buy 10 - 15 average players like Holloway did. If you can't buy genuine quality, it's best to keep the core of the team together, and at least lose with a team that the fans recognise and respect; use the team spirit to earn points and keep the cash

This. If they appoint Pardew or Coleman, their massive financial advantage won't go half as far as it should do.
It's hard to be critical of a total non event though, which they most definitely are - even after being the 'team of the 80s' and all that...
Because if you look at their average away following for the whole season in each of the 3 since our relegation from the prem that we were in the championship with them their average was more than ours

ideally pardew will become available ..he has previous experience of messing up a team in a previous situation

Just as long as they go down before a rich idiot buys them. If they miss out on promotion back to the PL in their first season down they will become an above av Champ team for a few years and then refind their level nearer the bottom.
Could go either way but the sick feeling I had for a couple of days after the Playoff win has dissapeared.
They've just mentioned on Talksport that Chris Coleman's son has tweeted #eagles! I know naff all about Twitter, but Adrian Durham on TS seems to think that this is sufficient to presume that Coleman's probably about to be announced as their new gaffer. Would take that, he's useless.

Yep, no Charlton supporter has ever turned on our promotion winning heroes.
Chris Coleman can't save them this season and I don't see him being the charismatic figure needed to build them up again next season. Bring it on I say.
Happy if Coleman is chosen - could easily be Pardewesque Happy days, that sick feeling when Watford (and Brighton) failed to show up is going
Even if the buggers stay up, that does not compare to how gutted I was in May. They could not win another game all season, no consolation. The quicker they go down the better though!
I literally, Gods honest truth would hate them to get another point this season. I know that in the scheme of things they must do and the thought of that has just brought a little bit of sick up. I genuinely hate that football club and the way they lucked out last season to flook it up ruined my summer. I would like it on record here and now, that I would sell my children and throw in my dear old mum to see them fall through the leagues to pollute the Conference with their stripey pajama arsed Ultra glad all over shite.
Apart from that no more threads please it's just plain embarrassing.

Apart from the last sentence (as I love reading about their demise), you have summed up how I feel about them as well, much better than I ever could have done!
I was reading the homesdale.net board and this one made me larf

Remember when you were younger and you used to ask each other questions like...
Would you suck your brother off for a million quid?
All that's happening this year is we are getting bummed in return for 60 million quid... I remember only saying 500K so I'd say this is a pretty good season.

I have not got a brother, but, I know what you mean! It is how we psychologically bounce back from the bumming that counts!"

Palace have 3 after 10 games. (3/10) x 38 = 11.4
...it's going to be a tight one haha.
