  • I really liked Parky, thought he was a decent honest guy and came across well in the interview. He made some bad decisions at times but all managers do. Very grateful for his hardwork, and the fact he got Jacko in. Cheers Parky.

agreed .. he was manager during (yet another) difficult time for the club and he did a decent job with very few resources, i.e. cash
  • He did have money, he chose to waste it
  • What did he waste it on? I can't remember any purchases he made. Just wages.
  • can I boo the audio , I never booed him when here but I would like to boo him now
  • Right manager at the wrong time. But what a man we have now.
  • Liked parky a lot. Think he kept a sinking boat above water, giving Chrissy the opportunity to come along and save it. He was a part of keeping this club alive.
  • It is no surprise Parkinson still gathers respect from the Charlton fans. He was a very good manager working under impossible conditions

    Parkinson had money ?
  • I dont ever remember Parky signing someone for a fee...

He did, but all small fees....Francis, Abbott, Benson, maybe one or two others....

  • Excellent manager who was well supported and liked by some. Is proving elsewhere just how good he is. I still think some should hang their head in shame when his name is mentioned. With just a little more luck we could have been promoted having beaten the scum at Wembley and Mr P would have a stand named after him.
  • I have plenty of time for Parky, did well with what he had at the club.

    Wish him all the best.
  • I had a chat with Phil Parkinson while I was at work a few weeks ago, he is a top bloke and he had a BIG mess to clear up at Charlton, he said he enjoyed his time with us. Just a shame
  • Our beyond pathetic relegation from the Championship with him as a more than integral part of it should not be forgotten and he was part of the management structure under Pardew that took us to a position where he became manager
after that a reasonable attempt towards promotion, that was nearly derailed by his poor judgement of goalkeepers, till a fortunate injury put randolph in goal and helped steady our sinking ship towards the play offs
and then he was doing more than decent the following season with the circumstances , part of his failings had brought us to and i believe it was harsh to sack him but as i said at the time about the board he who dares rodney , he who dares
what is not in any doubt was that he worked with integrity at Charlton and is a decent man , good luck Parky
  • I see parky in the same way as i see Les Reed. Both really nice people placed into a terrible position because of the way the club was run before them and they were not able to sort out the mess.
  • Top, top man and was treated disgracefully by the board and a fair number of Charlton fans.

His achievements in that first L1 season were unbelievable given our lack of resources.

True, but he did take us to L1 on the back of wasn't it 19 games without a win.
  • someone told me once he funded the Borrowdale loan deal out of his own pocket.Cant see it myself?

Murray confirmed this at a supporters meeting - I think it was a VIP meeting I attended.

  • What ever happened to the darren bent interview?
  • Its coming Adam, its recorded, just need to do some admin!
  • Have to say, that the part of the interview at the end where Parky talks about Richard Murray, was at Phil's request, he specifically wanted to get across his views on Richard Murray, we had finished the interview and asked me to ask that question, in my book Phil is a very decent man, and I hope he enjoys continued success at Bradford.
  • i love the way some absole him from his part in the championship relegation, treated terribly never by no one nice bloke shit mgr
  • Phil raises an excellent point - We were up there competing with a very good Leeds squad - So many of their players went onto better things. Norwich too - a fair few of their players were snapped up by the premier league boys.

Phil deserved a season with money. I do think he would have got us promoted

to be fair most of the players didn't want to know and were sitting on big wages and long contracts.
  • Enjoyed that.

Parky is a good man and was honest. The praise of Richard Murray was interesting which makes a few things clearer.
  • His performance over the pet few years with Bradford is proof of his ability as a manager. You either are or you aren't, and he clearly is.
  • He is not a shit manager, always thought he was treated poorly by a number of Charlton fans.Has proved he is a good Manager at Bradford.
  • He did well at Colchester too. I think if he wasn't part of the Pardew regime he'd be held in higher regard. He must share some of the blame for the relegation though.
