I wonder if there is any substance to the rumours that his knee is shot and he could end up like Ledley King?

    plenty

Got any evidence/sources to back that up?

yep he was and I am over the moon that he was, because young chris solly is proper Charlton and I want him back in the squad as he is one of the main reasons I enjoy my football right now

but I also know his lack of cartilage is a big issue for him , us and the club

one of the Bromley addicks meetings where it was said he had been having injections for a long time and that he has very little cartilage left by mark gower

But there is the fact that after that meeting he was offered the new contract

  • This thread worries me
  • Solly's one of our best players but Wilson is playing the best he has since joining and we've not conceded in four or five games so it's hardly the most pressing of concerns.

Yann's fitness is the main concern and will determine whether we finish comfortably mid-lower table or have a lot more nervous fight to stay out of the bottom three
  • I doubt he is even insurable on his knee given it is a long standing problem.

Actually I think it's more likely the injury came from playing football :-)

Based on nla's posts above I would imagine that it would be very unlikely that Chris now has it in him to pass a medical for a transfer. That means he stays with us which is great for Charlton but I also think we are likely to get a diminishing return season on season by way of games played. I hope that assessment is wide of the mark as I think CS is an absolute diamond of a player.

I know the comparison with Ledley King was made earlier on but if his knee is that bad, it's worth remembering that Ledley played at a very high level for nearly 15 years and even won international caps after his knee problems began. So it is still possible to have a decent career if you are sensible and hard working - attributes I believe Chris Solly has in abundance.

Good post, which would explain why we gave him a new contract, even if NLA's worst fears are realised. No one else has explained why that contract has been offered, when the club surely knows better than anyone here what his injury diagnosis.

  • Solly was virtually ever present in the previous 2 seasons, which is hardly the record of someone with a long term knee problem?

  • I do hope Solly doesn't walk back into the side when he recovers. Would be outrageously harsh on Wilson who has been excellent.

Maybe some on here are forgetting just how good Chris Solly is. I am not a big fan of Wilson I admit but he has come in & done a decent job as cover but no way is he in any way on the same level as CS & so although I think CS should be introduced slowly back into the team we all want the BEST players playing. That has to mean that Chris Solly is playing right back.

  • Wilson has been excellent so far, which means Solly is under no pressure to rush any recovery. Which is good for him in the long run

  • It's irrelevant to me how good objectively one player is to another in relative terms - is Solly a better right back than Lawrie Wilson? Yes he is, he's gifted and has trained for that position, whereas Wilson is by trade a wide midfielder playing in defence. BUT Wilson is playing very well, the defence as a whole is in outstanding form. Solly will have to win that position back if Wilson stays fit, it is as simple as that. He has the ability and the determination to achieve it, but the only way he gets back into the starting 11 is on current form, not reputation.
  • If Wilson continues to play well, it sends the wrong message out to drop him. But there are other ways- Wilson could play in advance of Solly as he did for some games last season.
  • I've thought for a while now that Evina in front of Wiggins and Wilson in front of Solly would be a very versatile and hard working unit.
  • You can come and ask Wilson all these questions tonight ;-)
  • Agree totally with that Rizzo. We're blessed with a fantastic quartet of attacking full backs, yet are lacking an abundance of real problem-causing wingers. Wiggins/Evina and Wilson/Solly in tandem could work really well for us.

    ---------Hamer----------
    -Solly Morrison Wood Wiggins
    Wilson Cousins Stephens Evina
    ---------Jackson---------
    -------Kermorgant--------

I like the look of that already (sorry to derail the thread a bit).

Hope CS is back soon although as mentioned above, Kermorgant is the more pressing issue thanks to how well Wilson has been playing.
  • Personally, there would always be a place for Pritchard in my team.

Personally, I could care less of CS played again for Charlton. What I am concerned with is his life after football. Long after we stop worshipping him from the terraces he has to go about living his life. We're not the ones that may have trouble getting about as he gets older. I'd love to see CS bombing up and down the flanks again but then again I want him have mobility is his later years as well.

Sorry, thought it went without saying that I'm not looking for him to cripple himself.
