But what is the injury, have we been told ? Everything about the injury seems very vague.
It's a problem with his knee. He has had a number of injections over the years. He has lost a lot of cartilage.
Complete rest is the apparent remedy.
This seems very odd as I don't recall him having had any arthroscopies, not since he became a first team player. Did he have a history of knee problems as a youth player?

He was recovering from a bad injury the season before he broke into the side, which is how Jenkinson got ahead of him in the pecking order. Think that was a knee injury - but might be wrong.

Yeah I always seem to remember it being his knee that was the problem in his Youth days
Think he spent nearly a year out through injury just as he was breaking in. Wasn't expecting him to make a full recovery and become the player he did in all honesty.
Very worrying that a young man of 22 has a knee problem this severe. Hope he doesn't go the same way as Richard Rufus & have to quit the game in his prime.
Obviously Chris is a great player, one of our best - and I know it's impossible to say - but would we have any more points if he had played in recent games?
I'm not so sure if you look at it. Far bigger problems elsewhere.

I know with the problems I've had with my ankle and missing cartlidge is that it doesn't grow back. Cortisone injections will only help in the short term, in the long term it softens the cartlidge.
If his injury is so back, he won't pass a medical at another club.

If/when he does get his match fitness back, he'll have to fight for his place. No way is he walking straight back into the team on Wilson's current showing. Yann on the other hand I would love to see starting again ASAP. Gives our attack an entire new dimension and the crowd gets a lift just by seeing him there.

completely agree, Wilson has done very well.
Agree that Wilson has done well, but still feel he is a better wing back in a 3-5-2 formation than in the classic full back position. Solly is the master there, by far.
Yes, it does seem off that he signs a new long term contract, and then is immediately out injured. And the that the injury was a minor one (no big story at the time), yet it's been several weeks now and he won't be back for a while...
maybe, maybe not but surely all depends how they assess the risk. On the face of it Solly has missed about one game in the last two seasons so on that basis, low risk. Do they do a medical? How do we know that they havn't applied a higher premium to his insurance but maybe one we thought worth paying?
