Will be there on Tuesday as a mate of mine has got me a ticket really looking forward to it.
Was part of the EnglandFans group a few years back when I first started going to watch England (went out to Barcelona for the Andorra 3-0 and Germany when we won 2-1)
My first game at Wembley was England v Northern Ireland in 1970, shortly before we left as world champions for Mexico. It was the only time I saw George Best play (other than in Les Berry's testimonial) and it was also the occasion of Bobby Charlton's 100th cap ( they both scored ). The first sight of the pitch and stadium took my breath away. I was so worried that day about being overloaded with homework that, after the second piece of work was set at the end of lesson two, I feigned illness and got myself sent home. Completely illogical - I had finished it all by lunchtime and then had to wait five hours for my dad to get home and set off to the stadium.
I was also there for the Poland game in 1973. Let's hope there isn't a repeat of that on Tuesday. Lewandowski is an excellent player but Poland's present side can't be a patch on that team - Lato and Gadocha could both do the 100 metres in just over 10 seconds and Poland went on to reach the last four in Germany.
You forgot to mention the the Polish keeper Tomaszewski or as Cloughie named him the 'Clown' who made several worldly saves that night and poor old Norm 'bite yer legs' Hunter who trod on the ball on the half way line to allow them to burst away and seal our fate; leading to Sir Alf getting the sack. As you say let's hope lightening doesn't strike twice! :0) Here you you go for those interested the action starts 2 mins 15 secs in. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCTIS6GM8m8&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DZCTIS6GM8m8
Thanks for the memories .. swap keepers and you would have swapped the result in that game .. and a reminder to me .. HOWEVER did Shilton win all those caps? .. was there no-one better? .. always easy to be wise after etc etc but I forever thought that Shilton was well overrated
Remember going to see Simmonson play for Denmark when he was with us 1982 . Went with quite a group of the guys from Charlton Duncan , Hopkins, etc. he scored penalty I think an Denmark won.
My first game was England v Holland 1976, 0-2, Jan Peters scored both, but Cruyff & Neeskins dominated the game. Also remember bunking off school to go to Luxembourg for an away World Cup qualifier in either 76/77. £23 return by coach.Thousands went, too many in the ground, the tickets were like party invitations and easily forged by English Touts. Last game was against Belgium last year. I prefer Saturday internationals, but there arent many these days.
England v Poland in 73. I still haven't seen a team have as many chances and not win. Having grown up with the 66 team, it was a real shock that England could fail to qualify for a World Cup. Losing in Poland was obviously a disaster but drawing with Wales at Wembley earlier in the three team group was careless.
Apparently there will be 15,000 Poles at Wembley on Tuesday. How silly is that? Should have cut their allocation to about 3000. That number will gee up their team right up. Won't surprise me if it kicks-off.

First England game was in Italia90 world cup - quarter final v Cameroon, in Napoli.
Just like watching Charlton - a goal up and cruising; then the defence creaking with an equaliser on the cards, before conceding 2 goals in quick succession.
Chasing the game, equalised through a pen just before the end of normal time. And winning 3-2 with a goal in extra time.
Baited and spat on by the Italian crowd - it was only a few years after Heysal.

I was at that one, the Napoli fans were not too bad to us, they dont really like Juve too much anyway, it got a lot worse when we moved up to Turin for the Semi Final.
Got given some vip tickets vs Sweden a few years ago by a client gladly accepted. But made me realize I would never pay for tickets to watch England again just couldn't part with hard earned cash to watch that dross!
I'm at Hampden tomorrow. Am not a Scot but a groundhopper and always up for a booze up so it should be a laugh. Will be good to see some of Croatia's top players too.
I remember going to wembley to see England v Argentina - I think a friendly, and I think it was a draw. It was with the school I think and the only other thing I remember was wearing a flowery denim jacket. I was probably about 10?! so 1990 ish!?

I was at that one too.
I was also there.....gave my England cap to a Danish fan....probably saved his life on the way to the station. but he gave me his Danish flag which I had to hide to save my own life!
