My first game was in the fifties against Russia, when the onrushing Nat Lofthouse frightened their Goalkeeper so much that he let the ball roll through his legs into the net.
Saudi Arabia friendly at Wembley. God knows when or what the score was. I remember singing "gazza is our hero kebabs and beer" and us boys wearing tea towels! Reckon I was 13/14!
Scotland in the play-offs in 99 - lost 1-0. The disappointment was a sign of things to come. Loved that old ground and it's never been the same at the new one - I just can't take to it and the modern England support.
Not going tonight but might get a last min ticket for Tues if it comes down to that one. Will certinally be at the away play-off next month if it comes to that.

Not the late great Lev Yashin surely Granpa?
I thought this too. England played Russia once in the 50's at Wembley and it appears Yashin didn't play. Having watched the goals on utube I'm not convinced about the comment regarding Lofthouse. The game was Tom Finney's last in an England shirt.
The tube there was full of Chelsea nutters singing "No Surrender" and a couple of stops before Wembley it all kicked off with a couple of VERY large Irish blokes and the Tube stopped for ages at the next station as the Old Bill came on board to sort it out.
It was certainly different from what used to happen on the 75 bus from Lee to Selhurst Park!
England vs Yugoslavia November 1986 at Wembley. EC Qualifier. England won 2-0 goals from Mabbutt and Viv Anderson. First visit to Wembley and first memory was how bad the view of the pitch was and my seat had no back to it.
My first game at Wembley was England v Northern Ireland in 1970, shortly before we left as world champions for Mexico. It was the only time I saw George Best play (other than in Les Berry's testimonial) and it was also the occasion of Bobby Charlton's 100th cap ( they both scored ). The first sight of the pitch and stadium took my breath away. I was so worried that day about being overloaded with homework that, after the second piece of work was set at the end of lesson two, I feigned illness and got myself sent home. Completely illogical - I had finished it all by lunchtime and then had to wait five hours for my dad to get home and set off to the stadium.
I was also there for the Poland game in 1973. Let's hope there isn't a repeat of that on Tuesday. Lewandowski is an excellent player but Poland's present side can't be a patch on that team - Lato and Gadocha could both do the 100 metres in just over 10 seconds and Poland went on to reach the last four in Germany.

You forgot to mention the the Polish keeper Tomaszewski or as Cloughie named him the 'Clown' who made several worldly saves that night and poor old Norm 'bite yer legs' Hunter who trod on the ball on the half way line to allow them to burst away and seal our fate; leading to Sir Alf getting the sack. As you say let's hope lightening doesn't strike twice! :0) Here you you go for those interested the action starts 2 mins 15 secs in. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCTIS6GM8m8&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DZCTIS6GM8m8
Yes, the goalie was good - if a little unorthadox - and I was surprised to hear afterwards that Cloughie had labelled him "a clown", although the TV footage suggests that Brian had put away a good few whiskeys beforehand. The big blond lump at centre half, Gorgon, was also effective and Deyna pulled the strings for them in midfield. They may have done even better in Germany if Lubanski hadn't been injured.
We were sat on bench seats directly in front of Norman Hunter's failed block tackle, which was the pivotal moment in that game, although I suppose the real damage was done when we lost 2-0 in Chorzow back in the Summer. It's still hard to believe Bobby Moore 's error for the second goal.
My first England game was just after Diana died. I was 7 and held a candle for the minutes silence. Me and me dad now say what the F was that all about.
You got off lightly. Not allowed incendiary devices at football now - Len Glover would wet himself if he knew! ;o)
You're absolutely right Blucher the damage was done in the away game and it just goes to show that even one of the best players in the world, as Moore was, can have an off day which no player can legislate for, something some of our fellow Addicks have difficulty in grasping when they dig out some our players especially the youngsters coming through. Happy (or not so at that particular moment in time) days.
Home International Championship vs N.Ireland old Wembley, cannot remember exact year only that Keegan was playing and the crowd surges down the terracing, su-feckin-purb!

Ah that was the year I couldn't remember. I mentioned this game earlier in the thread.

Good job your first Charlton game was the 7-6 one then.
I didn't think much of it, to be honest.

Took my boy to a friendly against Hungary a year or so ago.
