Addicks place disgrace

  • Well done Fanny. Of course the builders work is not acceptable but supporters paid the club thus it is for the club to rectify the problem. A degree of speed and sensitivity from the club is required. It's not about blame but a willingness to put things right.
  • We are all blaming the club but shouldn't the builders who installed have noticed the cheap materials ?

Your contract is with the club and they have a contract with the suppliers.
  • Frankly this was always going to be a shambles waiting to happen and that's why I decided not to get one done.
What were the chances of one material (the paint, particularly gold paint) being applied to a different material (the stone) being able to withstand regular footfall (not to mention the upcoming winter weather)?
    Pretty small I'd have thought.
Nonetheless, it's clear the Club are in breach of The Sale of Goods Act 1979 and individuals should just cite that legislation and demand that the club either rectify the defects and if that fails they should demand their money back as the goods are just not of a satisfactory quality. Here's the list from the Act that the stones need to comply with:
    a) fitness for all the purposes for which goods of the kind in question are commonly supplied,
    (b) appearance and finish,
    (c) freedom from minor defects,
    (d) safety, and
    (e) durability.

I'd say they fail on all counts (safety when they are wet and slippery?)

  • Haven't looked since first home game but will check it out Saturday.
Also am i right in thinking although i didn't pay for a second stone we were promised a certificate as part of the price for one

Have to agree with the posting above.
I assume these are the ones on the floor infront of the main reception?
I would suggest that the area will have to be sectioned off on matchdays, until a solution is found.
I am not a stone mason, but if you think of it, gold lettering ( paint) in a shallow etched surface is not going to last, let alone with the elements of weather, and people walking over them.
I had to get my father in laws gravestone recut with a family member addition last year, and luckily the stonemason was still working there( part-time)
Most are machine cut these days I have been informed.
A deeper etch without the gold paint may have been a better option, although I am sure there would be issues with that, such as dirt etc getting into the 'cut'.
Seems that putting them on the wall might be a better solution.I would suggest some one with experience is contacted to discuss this issue.
    Sorry to hear of this.......

I think one of the things that the Club need to appreciate is that this is not just a supporter buying something from the club, there is a huge emotional attachment to this as in many cases it will have been undertaken in memory of a loved one who has sadly passed, or highlighting a family legacy.

That's why some people will feel particularly strongly about it. And it wasn't cheap either.
  • Surely just the gold repainted and then a varnish type paint over the top will prevent this. I think the company that did it has pretty much done this at most grounds around the UK (if you look at their site). So they are not new to this.

I must say when I did phone them up they did seem a bit vague. Its like anything really use cheaper materials and make more margin, quite obvious that's what they have done here.

Although the poor buggers did not realise that we are all finicky anoraks and would be all over it :)
  • Doesn't sound good and I'd be rightly annoyed if I'd paid for this but...

The Club may have been let down by the suppliers so until we've heard from them I wouldn't rush to judgement.

All businesses make mistakes, it is how they deal with them ie by rectifying the error and communicating to the customers that is the difference between the good and bad.

The remarks above about the issue not being followed up and OohAah being "fobbed off" don't bode well though
  • i think fanny prompting the club and the club getting in touch with whoever has led to some progression

i just rang the 'Addicks Place' phoneline and they were just about to email me ahem ....

the replica is ready and i should have it next week !!

thanks to fanny and the club for prompting who it may have concerned

  • Morning All,

Very briefly, I received an email from Ben Kensell first thing this morning asking me to call him at my earliest convenience.

Ben read this thread last night and has taken the lead in getting this issue resolved for which he is to be commended.

He has already been in contact with Investors in Sport to bring the complaints to their attention including a link to this thread. He has indicated to them the necessity for a swift response and resolution to the issues raised by you guys and is confident that the way forward to deal with this will be in place by tonight.

Ben , as I have stated previously in both this and other threads, is very clear on his objectives both in this matter and others in which I have been involved and like ourselves is totally aware that the service provided by the Club to its supporters is second to none - albeit that in this case, the Club is not directly responsible for the stones. He fully acknowledges that your faith ( and hard earned) has been invested in this project and will ensure that faith is not abused. He has left me in no doubt that this issue will be swiftly resolved to the satisfaction of all concerned.

When news of the company's response is received, I'll post it on here but if this does not happen today ( although Ben is confident it will ) there will be an item on the OS addressing the matter for all to read. What he doesn't want to do is put something up just stating that the issue is in hand before the plan of action with IIS is set in stone ( pardon the pun!)

Hope this helps and everyone is happy with the outcome. As with all things, it is easier to complain than to praise, and once this can be put to bed, a brief email to Ben from those of you it affects would be much appreciated by me. You know it makes sense...

To rephrase my usual "mantra" - In BK I trust !!

  • Well done all concerned, hopefully they'll be a positive outcome.

As it seems to be being passed on, i've tidied up some of the language.

  • I just called Ben Kensell on a seperate matter (promoting the Wigan game) and had to say well done for getting on the case. I sense things are moving slowly - it will take time but it will be worth it!

Sorry for my bad language !
  • If the bad language had been on the stones it would have been fine as the gold would have disappeared after an hour..... :)

  • Ben read this thread last night /blockquote>

  • update from Ben K

"Also just regarding Addicks Place as Jean has headed off to sunnier shores before I could get back to her. I have the project manager from Investors in Sport coming down on Wednesday to look at Phase 1 and to make the necessary changes to ensure all issues are dealt with.

He will be bringing down the builders who installed originally and the situation will be resolved to a satisfactory conclusion ensuring a premium product.

    Thanks
    Ben Kensell"

It's a step in the right direction but I think the club should put out an official statement.

for the record, I am not happy with the quality of the three that I purchased
