Hamer good enough?

  • Very poor goal conceded against Forest, should not concede from there as the ball went in about 2/3 of the way up the back post which suggests poor positioning from Hamer.

However, overall we are not really going to find much better than Hamer with our current budget.
  • 'We would have won last night if wasnt for that mistake. How many points has he cost us? (no seriosuly work out how many points he has cost us)'

We would have won had we taken a multitude of good chances. We could have lost if Hamer hadn't made a save when a Forest player was almost clean through in the 1st half.

Hamer is a good young keeper and unless he loses total confidence stick with him.

Unfortunately he cares more about ensuring his boots and gloves match the colour of his top. He needs to spend less time doing his hair and more time learning how to catch a football.

Not sure why people on here get so defensive about Hamer. You need a keeper to be brave and a bit wrong in the head. Would he square up to Andy Todd? Doubt it.

    I'd give Alnwick a chance I think.

    I agree with this 100%

    What he said!

  • Hamer is the best keeper we have so dropping him is not a realistic option. If we had a decent alternative though, I'd drop him. Way too many mistakes, completely fails to command his area and the back 4 clearly have no confidence in him.

Agreed rizzo but that doesnt mean hes good...the teeth in my cakehole are the best ones i have but if they went bad i would replace them
  • Think his decision making wasn't clear but muddled.

When he started to come he was ready to punch whilst under pressure. He then was aware that he wouldn't be challenged and in a split second decided to catch instead. Sadly he didn't move his feet properly and hey presto it's over the top of his bounce and a red face resulted.

IF the case then it may possibly be down to an under pressure young keeper not wanting to punch clear when not under challenge suddenly concerned with the jeers he could receive from the home fans.

Of course it may all be a potty theory but the again ..........
  • Just about adequate
  • No he is not good enough, but he is better than Alnwick so let's put up and support him for now.

I'm not saying he's good. I think he's an average keeper at this level and nowhere near good enough for a higher level. It's not like the club has been beating away all the multimillion pound offers that have been flooding in for him since he arrived. I'm just saying that we don't currently have anyone better so what's the point of replacing him with someone worse?

  • Anyone remember early doors last season? People were saying how he was essentially our best player, especially after the home game to Hull where he saved us a point with THAT double save amongst others? He was in great form.

He's been in decline since then, which saddens me.

Let's stick with him and hopefully he'll turn it back around.
  • Leeds 3rd Goal, also forth im sure that freekick went in keepers side. Great strike bet ross Mccormack couldnt believe his luck 4 shots 4 goals for leeds that game. "Hes a fucking liability" Do a Joe Hart drop him.
  • Think it is amazing that he is being considered accountable for a penalty and a free kick when people say "4 shots, 4 goals".
  • I don't get this either. We have no money and on his day he is a quality keeper. What about the players that gave away the free kick and the pen? What about the player that left Mccormack unmarked for the 3rd?
  • Personally I think we need a new keeper. Although I'm not anti Ben hamer just don't see him make enough saves to warrant a first team place . I no he has kept a few clean sheets but I do believe that's due to us being very good defensively . Maybe he will get better , but I think decent competition is needed . One thing I hate is the few idiots I can hear constantly shouting foul abuse at him .. That's obviously not going to help his confidence . We need to get behind him through good and bad moments . At the end of the day I don't think he's a bad keeper but think we could maybe get someone in abit better to sharpen him up.

This is pretty much how I feel. Just because he's had a few bad moments doesn't mean he's a bad 'keeper. But equally, just because he's our best 'keeper doesn't meant he's brilliant, either.
