concentrate, I think he spends too much time worrying about his back 4 and berating them that he forgets about his own game.
This - maybe. It's interesting that the club have started to send someone out to kick balls at him before the start of the second half. It's like he has a problem getting his brain in gear when the whistle goes.
I agree I have rated him he has good games but more bad games in my eyes like last night he should of never been beaten with that free kick. He will be with us till the summer then I would go get a new keeper is with have the money.
He's getting beaten from distance far too often, his distribution has also been indecisive at times which puts us under pressure and to me it looks like he makes the back 4 nervous everytime a ball goes in the box as nobody sure if he is going to claim it.
Every time the ball goes in the 6 yard box I get nervous, he constantly gets beat from range to his right hand side, he wanders, the defence has no confidence in him the list goes on
A bit like Danny Green, out of his depth at this level

He is playing for a team that has kept 1 clean sheet in 25 games, it is called self preservation. Watch the GK's on TV, whenever they let a goal in they always jump up and scream at the defenders.............................it's never their fault!
Drop him, time on the bench may help him but to be honest i can't see it! Never had any faith or confidence in him and it doesn't help he is so cocksure of himself! We lost our best option when letting Randolph go.
The only thing I don't like about him is the way he doesn't command his 6 yard box at set pieces, his kicking out of hand isn't *that* bad, do people not remember Dean Kiely?
I think the fans just don't like his 'it's never me' attitude...
Time for a rest. Every long distance shot that beats him can't be unstoppable. Either his positioning is wrong or he doesn't start moving quickly enough. Surprised to hear about his poor distribution as that used to be the strong part of his game. My Reading supporting mate never rated him, I'm beginning to think he was right. A break on the bench may do him good, let's give Alnwick a chance.
Don't get all the comments about his distribution which is some of the best i have seen from a Charlton keeper. His kicking is superbly accurate. Slow at times, maybe but only because our outfield players are not in the right place to receive it quicker. He is always quick to look up for options and holds if there aren't any.
I was pleased about one aspect - was going to go for a cross but defender was with player and it was risky and decided to stay on line at last minute. Could see it was against his instincts but judgement in these situations has been an issue and showed to me this is being addressed.

My thoughts too. A few times last night he had the ball and was looking for someone out wide to pass to, but had to wait, then a few idiots started having a pop at him.
I personally dont think Hamer is our biggest problem. He can be shakey at crosses but the whole team is lacking in confidence at the moment. Once the team gets some form back and some confidence we will see that he is an asset
Also, lets not forget that he is relatively young for a keeper so essentially still learning his trade. He could be potentially really good, but he wont if we as fans are constantly on his back
I thought he was at fault for the Forest goal last night but recovered a bit with a couple of decent saves. I agree with the above that his distribution can be excellent but is hampered by our outfield players not coming deep or finding space quickly enough. For a big guy, he doesn't dominate his area nearly enough. I would certainly give Alnwick 2 or 3 games to see if he can take the chance that Button failed to do.
With regards to his distribution, I don't think the players give him the option to give the ball to them. I think they take for granted he fact that we have Yann and don't change the style of play for when he's not there. When Hamer picks up the ball they don't try to find the wings and just jog down the middle. This was combined yesterday with Forests top end pressing quite high up the pitch.
On the odd occasion where wiggins did find room on the left Hamer dropped it on his toes. Same happened v Millwall.
That's said I still get bloody nervous for him with from corners/crosses!
I felt he distributed well to Wiggins at one point in the first half (kicked it out to him on a sixpence)
I think the issue everyone needs to realise is that he cant distribute it quickly because the opposition players surround him when running back so he's got no space to clear it
Unlike Darlow last night who had time to have a cuppa every time the ball went back to him
It does make me chuckle just how quickly people forget the games where he's made a succession of ridiculous saves to keep Charlton in the game. He does seem to play better away from The Valley though in my opinion, then again that applies to the entire squad doesn't it.
Needs to get himself off twitter though. He's getting proper pelters from people on there! Not helping his confidence.
I've come to the conclusion that's what it is, a confidence/happiness issue. He just doesn't look happy does he? Noticed that v Millwall. Looked miserable in the warm up, and then had that out burst at someone in the north lower and had constant arguments with wiggins in that game.
Bit worrying that the bubbly guy with all that charisma has gone.
Comments
I'm sure there will be plenty saying he is one of our best players saves loads of points etc zzz
I just think he is pony and have done since day one
I didn't rate Elliott but he is in a different league
He has never been comfortable with any form of high ball to deal with.
He gives me palpitations every time a high ball is thrown in.
God knows what the poor back 4 feel like with him behind them.
Craig Gordon is still unattached - surely a much better option.
He rates himself far too much. Potential to be a good goalie, but needs to realise his limitations and stop blaming others all the time.
I'd give Alnwick a chance.

erratic at times but a lot of keepers are.
sublime distibution to the left in the 2nd half last night although he saved his best kick for the post after conceding that free kick.
All in all time for a rest, make him win back his place.

How many times do we have a Hamer thread....
Worst keeper since Tony Lange
