Definitely going, with a pal: will get off the train at New Hythe and walk the five miles along the bank of the Medway to the ground, which is near the river in the centre of town. On the way, will look at the old friary at Aylesford and have a sherbet at the Little Gem, centuries old and reputed to be Kent's smallest pub. Weather is set to be a scorcher.

I believe the Little Gem is closed I will check on way home this eve as I go past it. also a chunk of the Tow path is closed between Aylesford village to Travis perkins and a lot of it extremely overgrown.

Many thanks for the useful tips, Vinnie V - I've just checked www.beerintheevening.com, which confirms your belief: Little Gem reported closed and for sale in November 2012. No matter; the Chequers, overlooking the river, gets a decent write-up in the Kent pub guide. Where abouts is the towpath closed? We were planning on the east bank between Aylesford and Maidstone. Is there a convenient diversion?
Yep just walk through the village from the Chequers (where they serve a lovely pint of Timothy Taylors Landlord) walk along the main road and turn right immediately after the Volvo dealership back onto the towpath which has been recently relayed.

Thanks for the directions, Vinnie V - and Tim Taylor's Landlord is one of my all-time favourite ales. After the game in Maidstone we'll probably do the Swan (Shep's) and the Pilot (Harvey's). Shame the Rifle Volunteers (Goacher's) doesn't open until 7.
All permit parking around the ground. Get there early you may be able to park on the approach road, White rabbit worth a try or its town centre and walk.
Going out on the piss later but at work on the early so was going to go home try get a bit of sleep before hand. But now I'm tempted to go football then try and stay awake on the night out! Dilemma dilemma...

5 minute walk to the ground.
Resting up after training, match tomorrow against Maidstone ⚽ #PreSeason
For anyone coming from north east Kent remember to avoid the A249 as the Kent Show is on. This morning the traffic was pretty bad.
