My dad, Smudge, passed away peacefully on Sunday night. I was with him at his bedside when he slipped away. Smudge was born in Woolwich 86 years ago, he and his brother naturally became Charlton fans. Both were in the 76000+ crowd vs Villa, Smudge was even at the 11-1 drubbing away at Villa and has the four page programme! He also attended the Matthews final in 1953. He too like a great many sold those jackpot books in the 60s and 70s to work mates and neighbours, proud to be doing his bit to raise funds for Charlton.
He gave me my love of football and Charlton. The first time I saw CAFC was at Villa away in the 60s as we lived in Worcestershire. Though I have lived in Northants for 24 years we still made a point of getting to at least one game a season together, last season we managed 10, several with Ms Latimer. He was kind man, a gentleman, Charlton supporter and a wonderful dad.
He certainly did live, love, laugh and be happy especially when he was down The Valley!

I lost my own father 4 years ago so have some idea of how you must feel right now.
My dad was at that Villa game too with his parents, uncles and Grandad.
