The second Millwall goal at the Den in August 1989. We were two up with four minutes to go and they scored one, we panicked and they got a late, late equaliser.
Up to that minute I was as happy as I think I'd ever been at a Charlton match and it was all snatched away from me in a flash.
I felt as low when that goal went is as I have felt ever since when we conceded.
Yeah, that really was a sickener. And our away-fans' section at the Old Den was the worst ever, anywhere: a few low steps behind a pylon, which was standing on a huge concrete base; view further interrupted by security fences. Wasn't that the game that a fat geezer got stuck in the turnstile at the Ilderton Road end, causing a long queue as the firemen were called and kick-off approached? The whole experience was utterly piss-poor.
One that sticks in my mind is the Northwich Victoria goal in the FA Cup in 2009, especially as it was on ITV as well.
Yes, I watched that one on the box, scored by an 18-year-old student and part-time barman. Darren Randolph had kept us in it; we could easily have been 3-0 down at half-time. By the time the goal went in I was hoping Northwich would win anyway, such was the pitiful ineptness of our own performance. And, as you say, it was live on ITV. Completely and utterly humiliating.
Great topic. Lots of spot-on responses too. Can't argue with those from the relegation seasons, or the Blackburn one from 58 .
A personal 'favourite' which haunted me for ages was Hughes' opener at Old Trafford, completely knocked the stuffing out of us. And our league form collapsed after that game, so (unlike the Bolton game) it was a double whammy
Probably one that came from a bad backpass by me in some unimportant cup final about 40 years ago. We were 1-0 up with 5 minutes to play, my dodgy backpass led to the equaliser and, sure enough, they scored in the 90th minute. Gutted. I can still picture the whole thing unfolding now.
