Keep calm. We can still put out a strong eleven for Welling, save money on shirts by using players with the same name and keep Yann and Morro on the bench, wrapped cotton wool for the Millwall fixture.
1. Ben Hamer 2. Chris Solly (with the kind permission of West Ham United) 3. Rhoys Wiggins 4. Jonny Jackson (Captain) 5. Michael Jackson (best not to play too many youngsters in this one) 6 Reverend Jesse Jackson 7 Paris Jackson 6. Jackson Pollock 7. Keith Peacock (if out of hospital in time) 8. Jake Bugg 9. The younger bloke who looks quite quick when serving in the burger van opposite the Superstore (happy to be called Jackson for this fixture and very cheap) 10. Janet Jackson (the programme seller not the singer who would be too pricey) 11. Callum Harriot (if still with us by then)
I'm not worried. Yeah it would have been nice to have had one or two signings but we have two months remaining and pretty much the same team as finished 9th last season. Fuller and Haynes were both match winners (though given their fitness only combined to make one), and I'm sure that gap will be filled whether it's on a free or undisclosed fee.
We might be short of cash but the owners will have to invest at least a little to keep up and make us look more attractive to potential buyers, and I'm sure whatever SCP's given he'll make the most of.
Worried? Palace could break the all time low Premier league points total, Millwall will be relegated, SCP will push on with the experience of last season and get us to Wembley, where we will lose on penalties 7-6 to QPR.
you can laugh as much as you like at Palace & Millwall, but at least they are putting a squad together BEFORE the season starts, and not waiting until late August when all that is left are the odds & sods that no-one wants.
but, of course, CP knows what he is doing...........

I hope you're not implying that SCP is the reason nothing has happened
SCP knows what he is doing but unfortunately the purse strings are closed tight and he can't magic shit out of thin air
SCP is the main reason we finished 9th last year, a complete over achievement by that squad and with one that has been (so far) weakened he will need to perform miracles to keep us up
I'm not worried. I didn't expect us to be challenging for the playoffs and I still don't. That makes our requirements less pressing.
What I am, though, is disappointed. it's exciting watching the team (and squad) come together. I like this time of the summer when the club makes announcements about new faces, and one a week keeps the excitement up. We must be looking to bring in five players, as we've released more than that, so one a week between now and the start of the season would be about right.
I don't want to tempt fate, but with one more striker (a decent one) and cover in a couple of positions (maybe from developing youth players) I think we will be strong enough to avoid relegation, and if we are not going to make the playoffs, realistically, seventh is as good as forth from bottom.
only a few champ clubs with (perhaps) more money than sense have made big investments in players so far .. Huddersfield, Millwall, Wednesday for example .. there is no need to worry .. anyway, worry only makes your hair turn grey and causes stomach ulcers

Golf, the alternative view to that though is that Palace and Millwall are paying good money to secure players now, rather than wait. Those clubs that do wait, however, are going to be able to take advantage of the players that have been hanging on all summer for a big payday and end up taking what they can get.
With FFP there are going to be a fair number of players that are going to be released that are better than what we have. Players like (but not) Carlton Cole will hang on for the kind of money they were on, as it gets nearer to September and these players start to look like they will be unemployed, their expectations will fall through the floor.
What you pay for a decent (10-15 goals a season) Championship striker now might be the same as you will pay for a very good (20-25 goals a season) alternative at 10pm on 31st August.
I'm not saying I like the idea of gambling, but at the end of the day I do trust in Chris Powell, and if he isn't being given much money to spend then he has to do the best with what he has, and that might be picking up bargains late in the day.
well i've got grey hair and the eartha kitts so i'm worrying
ideally you want as much time as possible to bed new signings in and by the end of August 5 League games will have been played
as we stand now 4th bottom will be a touch
this is possibly true .... BUT .. to paraphrase.. 'buy in haste, repent at leisure' .. there is no point in buying for the sake of it .. either there is no or little money available for new players, Powell is waiting for the right player/moment to strike a deal or he is happy with what we have, though I must confess, the last is not especially likely

sorry, but I have to disagree. Quality strikers don't grow on trees, and neither do they become free agents and sit around until late August waiting for a mid table Championship club to snap them up - they have to be bought. Therefore ,If we don't have any money then it might have been prudent to hang onto the half decent strikers we had (Haynes & BWP for starters) as I doubt very much we are going to get anyone better. The Carlton Coles (or Ricardo Fuller's - as we have seen) still command a high weekly wage and although they may be starving come Aug 31st, they will still want in excess of £10k a week, which is out of our league.
I hope I'm proved wrong & I'd be delighted if we unveil Baldock/Jackson/Holt before the start of the season, but I'm pretty much resigned to the fact we will sign some unproven or aging striker come Aug 31st......
Did we not sign Fuller late in August? Do you not think that he might have been hoping for more money in June and July?
Maybe we can't sign players on serious money, and maybe we will be looking for a 12-17 goal a season striker (neither Haynes nor BWP got 12 goals last season - I'm not sure they scored that many between them) but the principle will be the same. Players will lower their expectations when the window starts to close.
At that point the players that are left will have fewer options as Millwall and Palace (and others) will not be looking to sign any more players.
More importantly the Premier League clubs will sign players late in the window which will free up loan players that will be better than we have, and we won't, necessarily, have to pay all of their wages.
Golf, I'm not saying I wouldn't love it if we had already beaten off all the competition to sign the best Championship players out there, but within the budgets we (and all other clubs) have maybe we have a different approach. To be fair, out of the two summers Chris Powell has had one was fantastic and the other one was more than adequate.
I didn't expect us to be challenging for the playoffs and I still don't.
you might not but I thought the owners plan was to get us into the PL within three years or something like that. You can't do that without some sort of investment in the squad. Mr Slater will personally still have to bung in close to 1m a month to keep us going and I doubt he can do that forever. We can cobble together a decent enough squad to finish somewhere around 8th to 15th but the PL is where the money is and we won't get there without investment. I believe the plan now is to keep costs as low as possible, signing players on freebies for as low a salary as possible, hope a few youngsters come good and in the meantime pray that someone comes along to push us on because I don't think the current owners have the funds to do so. The problem there is if we keep losing millions each year the price goes up because the owners want to recoup their outlay and we become a less attractive proposition. It's going to be interesting to see what way we eventually go.

That plan existed whilst Kevin Cash was bankrolling it.
He no-longer is.
As far as I can tell, the only plan the current board have is to sell up as quickly as possible.

exactly but the longer the situation continues the bigger the losses become and the less attractive we become. A vicious circle but how will it end.

Palace have got £100m of prem cash burning a hole in their pocket, Millwall have signed Martin and Morison, would probably have taken Martin as a squad player, and Yann is better than Morison
12 clubs finished below us last year without getting relegated. I suggest all 12 of these need to improve more than we do and that's not happening really is it.

admittedly other clubs will have released players but we have let some go and no replacements in as of yet , so as it stands we are definitely a weaker squad
I have little doubt that its player sales that are holding us up. We need to get money in before we sign anyone. The wages freed up might cover a few frees but I reckon anyone that costs is unlikely unless we sell first. I wonder what Spurs want for Obika ? Too much for us right now in any event.

Worried about football when i have 2 kids a mortgage and a dog
I dont think so
What happens happens we dont have to like it but worry and be nervy for what
So that the moaners can moan
One of the biggest myths in the game.
