Starting to get worried now

Maybe its far to early to jump to conclusions but considering pre-season training has started and our first friendly is this Saturday, it is very worrying we have not signed anyone yet, apart from a 34 year old midfielder. There's rumours flying about that we are skint which does not help, especially the fact we offloaded players and we only have 1 first team Striker. I really do hope we bring someone in like Jackson or Baldock.

I really do hope MS and TJ acts fast and gets some proper investment as quickly as possible otherwise my confidence in them will drop. Considering I was really impressed what they and the club did first full season in League One.

The only one option I can think of is start using more youngsters, I was highly impressed with Harriot and I thought he improved every game. These young players will (Or should) try and perform well to stay in the team and with players like Jackson and Morrison in the team, it could work well.

I think we are in for a struggle next season so I do hope we stick by Powell and the team and not call for Powell to be sacked. I think we got a decent group of players and I was impressed with how we done last season. Maybe Powell has learned a lot of lessons however we need history to repeat itself when Curbs and Gritt first took charge and performed a miracle.

Up the Addicks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If we need a striker I'll happily play for a small fee.
  • This is going to be the longest bloody season on Charlton Life. We haven't even played Welling yet..

Agree its too early to worry but it not very professional or normal to have one senior striker on your books.

It is what it is. We've just got to get on with it. Don't worry, be happy...
  • Keep in mind many other teams are making signings because their season was nowhere near as successful as ours. We'll be fine.
  • I am worried. It's ok integrating the kids when they are ready but you can't rush them, they will be inconsistant initially and it's folly to rely on them and, at any one time, you can only have two or three in the team at most. Players we are linked with are all going elsewhere and we are being left behind in my opinion.
  • Two of the best full backs in the division, a quality centre half, an old head who can pass the ball well, goals from Jackson, Harriott will only get better and the beast up front - we'll be OK, we won't go up, but we'll be OK!

A few injuries and yes - I'm worried...!
  • im all for pushing the kids in early but need to be improving the squad not relying on their potential just hope chrissy gets a few bargains

Good thing there's another two months of transfer window then. Imagine if we'd done it in another order; signed a striker, promoted Smith, shifted Haynes, got a striker on loan, shifted BWP, shifted Fuller. Would anyone have batted an eyelid? No, they wouldn't. The fact is we've decided to let go of an injury-prone striker, an older also injury prone striker and a striker who failed to provide goals in the Championship and we did this at the beginning as that's when their contracts expired. We will replace them and we have two months to find players who will become available over the next few weeks. Players will reject contract extensions, ask for moves to be nearer their families, teams will sign a player who suits them and decide one of their players is surplus to requirements, agents will tout their players, teams will need to reduce their wage bill or increase their budget to secure another target. The transfer market, like any other market, is not static. You don't peer out over it at 00.01am on July 1st and get the measure of it. Situations will change and evolve and we'll sign people accordingly. To be worried because we haven't heard any convincing tattle on the internet by the third day of the window is genuinely insane.

A lot of emphasis is being placed on us only having one striker ahead of Welling (shock! Horror!) but we're doing things in the order that suits us. There is no chance that when the window closes we will still only have one striker.

How many threads can you be worried on, Large ???? Are you going for the record ?

    Chill, man, chill !

  • Don't worry it will be mass panic soon, when season tickets haven't arrived!.

Players we've been linked with? By who? Agents trying to get a good deal and papers filling page space. Or people making up shit on FR.

  • I think the Championship looks tough this year (I'm sure I say that every year) the 3 relegated teams will be tough games and I expect Blackburn to make a better fist of it, Leicester and Middlesbrough should improve, then you have Leeds and Forest with backers, not forgetting Bournemouth, EddievHowe has got them firing since his return and I don't think they will be pushovers. With our current squad I'm probably teetering on "mildly concerned".
  • Maybe it's Powell's decision to give the kids a go. No one really knows.

  • Look at it this way

    A. We have got rid of players to ensure we are in business going forward

    B. We have a plan and players coming in

Either way the club knows what its doing

    All this worry is laughable
  • I am not worried but like most Charlton fans I would like the transfer business done as quickly as possible. But we need to be patient, Powell and his staff will be trying desperately to bring in the right players.
  • NLA, could you send me some of what you are on please.
  • If we need a striker I'll happily play for a small fee.

How much are you prepared to pay ?

    This 100%
  • This is so dull. If everybody's gonna keep crying about our lack of signings can they at least keep it to one thread, I swear a new one of these pops up every day.
  • Blimey, we do seem overly prone to outbreaks of bedwetting on here don't we!

The season is a month off and the window doesn't close for the thick side of two months.

If, and it's a big if, we are in the same position in 6 weeks time then some mild panic may be in order but until then everyone should get back to their positions and don't shoot 'till you see the whites of their eyes [insert your own military metaphor here]
