As only 6 neutral people will probably be watching on TV anyway, especially if BT get the Manchester Derby which is on that weekend, and stick it on at 12:45, the humiliation of an empty ground might not matter so much!
I believe the club, after advice from the police, specifically asked Sky to show this at 12.15 so that CAFC supporters wont moan when they finally leave the ground at the usual time of 5pm.......
Well, they won't have the money from the match ticket sales, but as a fan my problem is that swathes of empty seats at a televised London derby will be seen and commented upon around the country and embarrass the club, especially in the context of the packed away end.
Really? What a few fellas in a pub in say Grimsby think about a few empty seats at our ground is a problem? What the hell does it matter? I'm much more concerned that we give a good display on the pitch....win 4-0 and people around the country won't be talking about empty seats...they will be talking about what a good team we are.
Having a good atmosphere with a packed ground on the TV makes the club look attractive to neutral or casual supporters who don't come down often. Notice how quite a few people picked up on the atmosphere at the Brazil match the other night? I personally feel a new surge of excitement a year in advance for the World Cup next year as a result of that. Different levels of course, but you see the point I'm trying to make.
We all take the piss out of Millwall and how empty their ground is week in and week out, so no it wouldn't be easy to stomach if we then go and have a turnout which was similar to that of the game in Febuary (and the dire atmosphere from the home stands to match it).
And though the players are responsible for results, having a packed ground for a big derby like that does help the team. Probably half the reason why we can't seem to win at their place, as the atmosphere scares the absolute daylights out of the opposition when it is full.
A decent start to the season and good weather and we should get a better than average crowd. Remember in March when we played them the weather was appalling, our home form had been dire up to that point and our only win in February was away at Leicester.
It'll be our first home fixture for three weeks. For most, the withdrawal symptoms will mean they have no option but to attend otherwise they'll be going over a month without a fix.
The only thing that`s embarrassing is all the moaning get behind the team and support them Millwall fans are not horned monsters nor are Vikings on a pillaging raid.Just treat them with the contempt they deserve feel sorry for them after all they support Millwall.
Selfishly, i am glad this game is at 12.15 as i have to be at work at 19.00 and work the other side of basingstoke, if the game was at 3pm and having to wait another time after the game would have been dodgy for me to get work on time.
Not sure why people think this game will be empty, if you support your team you should attend. After all all every week i have to travel with the away lot home, watching all our zeros safely bait the oppositon on the other side of the station.
Way I see it is, Couldn't give a shit what other people think about our empty seats against Millwall, and it may be wishful thinking but we're shit on tele and shit against Millwall and I've always believed in 2 wrongs making a right so 3-1 CAFC
FFS when we played Cardiff at home on a Tuesday night in November (with only one home win to our name previously) the attendance was just shy of 17k...it is NEVER going to be 5/7k lower than this for Millwall on a Saturday at the beginning of the season!
Well, it was 15,778 actually, but in any case the turnstile count was under 11,000, including the Cardiff.
All I'm saying is that there is a potential problem here and the club needs to find a solution. Pretending the problem doesn't exist won't make it go away.
Devil's advocate: What's the problem?
Does the club care about 'no shows' if they already have the money from the ticket/ST sale?

Close the East Stand, shift the season ticket holders overt to the West Stand, problem sorted cos tv cams are in the East stand. ;-)
I don't care what the watching millions (well, thousands probably) on TV think about our crowds. I just want to win the game. Am also not that bothered if assorted day trippers and freebies don't make it. There's some strange comments in here.

That would be just my effing luck! Charlton on the tele and nobody showing it because of the Manchester derby...
Just close the East Stand and it will "look" as though we have a crowd. Then Addicks can be let out as normal and Millwall can be shepherded back to the station via Lansdowne Mews exit....QED really. So obvious you can hardly believe the club wouldn't do it.....

Embarrassment at our lack of support for this???
