The best I can recall are Kernaghan, Pates and Fish. My Dad used to go on about Marvin Hinton, but just before my time.

Your dad knew his football, Marvin Hinton was cultured. I was gutted when Chelsea signed him :-(
  • Thought Gary Doherty is our most recent solid and quality on the ball player. Remember his thread though a needle passes week in week out. Shame we let him go. Still think he could play in a lower Prem team.

Apologies, I thought you had poor judgement, but now realise you're a WUM.
You've got too obvious even for me :-(

Me too, 'Like a whirlpool it never ends, you're making me dizzy my head is spinning' Tommy Roe, not sure what his tackling was like though :-)
  • Morrison is fairly comfortable on the ball. What he does do well for a defender is make himself available for a pass.

Marv the swerve he used to call him. Always seemed weird as he was a CH and not a winger.

One of the best games I saw him play was in the FA Cup 5th round away to Aston Villa 1962 lost 2-1 but he had Derek Dougan (latterly Wolves and N Ireland) in his pocket. Slide tackle after slide tackle which in those days was new to the English game and he eventually got booked because of the 'Doogs' whinging but never fouled him once. Was extremely comfortable bringing the ball forward and passing.
