If I think back over recent seasons the majority of our centre halves have looked fairly shaky with the ball at their feet but does this really matter? Is a centre-half meant to be a big bloke who can head the ball and hoof it up the pitch when required or should we expect more?
Diawara is the last centre half I can remember who could handle the ball at his feet but he didn't seem to adjust to the fact that the team were playing hoofball at the time.
Be interested to hear how CP views the role of central defenders?
CBs in the Prem seem far more mobile and pacey than those in the lower leagues.

Nobody will ever be worse on the deck than Miguel Llera though.
The two brighton centre backs when we played them away were very good on the ball and picked out passes left, right and centre, can't remember who they were but was very impressed by them.
He's a good player but has struggled this season more than I expected.
Im all for playing safe but jesus when he does that its frustrating.

Wouldn't call Morrison a ball playing defender but he's a lot more composed on the ball than the likes of Cort, Doherty and Sodje. Last season he regularly played his way out of trouble by taking a few extra touches or turning into space. He does it at times at this level. Certainly doesn't panic whenever he has the ball.
Get the impression some see him as the hard man centre back that offers nothing on the ball. I'd say he actually reads the game very well which makes up for him not being the strongest or most dominant in the air. Watch him at attacking corners, never wins a header but isn't too bad for a centre back when the balls at his feet in the oppositions box.
