  • Golfie and Large,

    You do this every summer.

You can't look at the first or even second signing and decide from that what the final squad will look like.

Frustrating as it maybe we have to wait until the squad is complete before deciding and even then it's too early.

So far we've re-signed some out of contracts players and won who was on loan. They are the easy ones, arranged or at least contracts offered weeks ago.

Now the hard work ones. The ones in contract, on loan or have lots of offers.

Just chill out till we see all of the jigsaw picture not just two or three pieces.
  • Mark Gower nice one. Best of luck, just need some legs around him. could be amazing with hughes at this level. Hollywood baller, yann loves a Volley so expecting a few more of them next Season.

    Welcome and Good luck Mark
  • Even when Golfie's seen the full picture, he'll still predict relegation.

    Should have gone to Specsavers......

Really there should be some sort of ambition in every signing from the managers point of view.

People were trying to say its not à signing thats going to make us favourites for promotion or one that says that the board are making à charge towards the premier league meanwhile, by accident, sounded à bit disrespectful to MG and the club.

  • Just spoken to a Swansea fan who said Mark Gower was the most creative (I think) player in European competitions when Swansea were in Europe. Might have this a bit mixed up, anybody able to substantiate this
  • Your not mixed up other than it was the most completed passes out of all european leagues
Was in the newspapers the season before last under brendan rogers

Adrian durham did a big piece on it on talk spory

When were Swansea in Europe? Europa League next season, having won the League Cup, but otherwise not recently. Or have I missed something?

  • The ambition is half way declared in that we have kept the squad together...add Obika and we have the team which finished so well...

The next question is whether the board / management want to sign top players and are then able to close deals or perhaps academy players complete the squad with loans to follow...

Let's wait and see shall we

They have qualified for Europe 7 times previously, through winning the Welsh Cup. Their last appearance, however, was in the 1991-92 season.

Exactly. And Mark Gower isn't that old. Seth Plum's slight misunderstanding cleared up, above.

  • In Europe as in the top leagues in Europe.

Anyway, I could be wrong but wasn't Matt Holland 34 when he won player of the year in 2008? Same league same position.
  • Good signing, needed in midfield
  • Hollamds was the first player we signed last summer I think. That wasn't massively ambitious I suppose, because he was signed on a free. It didn't get any indication as to what was about to happen as he was free. It could have meant we had no money and were shopping in the free zone. That wasn't true.

Gower is as big a name as we should expect IMO. He's a good signing.

    Not last summer was it
  • It was the season before last that we signed Danny Hollands - shortly afterwards we then signed Bradley Pritchard. Another signing that had the glass half empty brigade claiming that we were going to have a poor season...
  • He improved as time went on.

Doesn't look a worldbeater so far but if SCP is happy with him so am I.

The last few comments are spot on, sign a non league midfielder in Bradley Pritchard who we've never heard of before and we think what the heck is Chris Powell and his staff doing.

Sign a 34 year old Premiership player that we've sort of heard of , and we think he's over the hill and joining us for one last pay day.

Sign some French bloke on a free transfer whose name took us a year to pronounce and was hated by his own fans for costing them promotion, this Powell fella ain't got a clue what he's doing.

Isnt it Time we drafted in Ackworth and Reams to sort out our transfer mess, and put the club firmly back where we belong?

  • Great signing. I thought he looked a steady influence in the team and as others have said, he helped to bring stability and a run of good results. He knows what he's getting himself into and CPknows what he's getting. Happy to have you back on the magical mystery tour, Mark. In Powell we all trust!

    Great post, MIA !

  • I love players that can actually play football. Wellcome Gower.
  • I wonder how many thought Keith Jones was an 'unambitious' signing at the time?

    Ditto John Bumstead!

Good call - let's get CL's very own chuckle brothers Large and Golfie to do the half-time pep talks while we're at it?

I'll put my hand up to that one. When I first saw him on the pitch, I thought to myself "why have we signed this flat footed bloke from Southend(?)

Soon became a huge fan of his................
  • Gower is a good signing - hopefully the younger players can learn from him.
  • "hopefully achieve something next season" - like the sound of that!
  • Was reading a Swansea forum to see what they had to say. Apparently he originally signed as a winger but has since been converted to a centre mid?
