  • was hoping for a sat in gillingham.. hey ho.

live in sittingbourne so only 20 mins down the road plus the bus company i work for do a service via gillingham so grartis travel..

Possibly the first time i've ever seen someone hoping for a trip to Gillingham!
  • Wimbledon's just a few miles up the road, so tempted by that one.
  • Just waiting for Chelmsford away to be added
  • They will also be going to Spain for a week.

    Dust off that passport!
  • The problem there is that the likes of Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea are too busy touring the world making money to bother playing a friendly against us. What would be in it for them?

I can't imagine Wenger being too impressed by the state of our pitch either :-)

Didn't we beat Arsenal in a pre season friendly back in the mid 90s?
We did indeed. 2-1 Shaun Newton bagging the winner!
  • Off to Pompey on my own :(
  • Not very inspiring, Oh well.

I think the top Premier League clubs charge a hefty appearance fee for friendlies now, thats probably why we wont see one in pre season....
  • I think Chris Powell will be taking the Daggers friendly very seriously , he'll want to erase the memories of a couple of seasons ,when we were shocking , for anyone who went then , it might be worth going along to this one , providing we put out a strong team.

    Now a 20,000 mile round trip for me.....pass :)

As UK pre season friendlies are officially crap (apart from Welling for the beer) I'm glad that the arranged games are more crappy than the usual crap, as I won't be tempted to watch any of the crappiness :-)

    this, very uninspiring

  • When are pre season friendlies inspiring?
  • The point of going to preseason games, is to se trialists, possible young players who might step up and who looks in form for start of the season. The results are very much second place to these. Also they are just good fun.
  • As a London Addick these all appeal to me so should be attending Wimbledon, Daggers, Welling (as always) and probably Pompey, Means I can drink in my local pubs before I go to the games which is always a treat when I know of the prices before drinking, anyone know what the pubs around Kingmeadow are like?

Absolutely correct. On that note, think we should send our academy side to play this lot: http://www.fclasvegas.com/

So are you saying there's actually a match at Welling? I thought they only opened the ground to take in the overspill from The Guy.

Short walk into New Malden pub called The Fountain is decent. However, a 5 pound taxi ride - although walkable if you feeling energetic(15 mins) is one of my favourite boozas in the whole planet being The Boaters at Kingston - absolute bliss on a sunny day, on the River, watching the totty walk or run by.Luvly.
  • If we go to Spain, what week is that likely to be?

    Spot on.

Don't think I've ever stayed longer than 60 minutes at the Welling friendly!
  • If we go to Spain, what week is that likely to be?

Between 7th & 16th July if you look at the fixtures (presumably).
  • More games announced via Twitter but my computer here is awful for getting on to the official site.

Gibraltar XI and St Mirren in Spain, plus an XI going to Dartford and Maidstone if anyone can copy the dates.
  • Still a date free on the Saturday 27th July. Hopefully a day for a home friendly
  • "
After the traditional curtain raiser on Saturday, July 6th against Welling United, who won the Blue Square Bet South championship this season, the Addicks will head out to Spain.

The first-team squad will travel abroad the day after taking on the Wings, and will first face a Gibraltar XI on the Wednesday, July 10th before taking on St Mirren three days later.

BTW, local Wetherspoons to Fratton Park called the John Jaques is/was managed by an Addick.I'll try to find out if he's still there.
  • Maidstone United will play a Charlton Athletic XI on Saturday 13 July.

The Addicks, managed by Chris Powell, finished ninth in The Championship this season following their promotion from League One the season before.

The club’s first team coach Damian Matthew was previously Youth Development Officer at Maidstone United and was influential in organising this high-profile fixture.

Charlton have a large fan base in Maidstone and Malling – much of that is credit to Sue Townsend and her colleagues on the local branch of the Charlton Athletic Supporters’ Club.
