Lets Be sensible

Up to 9th and only six points off play offs and I bet many are thinking "we're on a roll now" could we make a dramatic return. Although nice to dream,I honestly feel that would do us more harm than good. Took us a while to ajust to this division, which makes you understand that be building on what he has now will then make us into a much stronger side for a real searious challange next season. Also I'm not to sure if the funds required to build now for the premiership would be available. If we did get there,we would probably come straight back down, when we go up we want to stay there this time. We've got a good base to build on,provided we can keep the best and bring in good strong players, lets face it we want automatic spot...not play offs. So although its nice to dream, lets get it right this time and go up in stile.
Well done to the lads today and CP and his staff.......a fantstic result.

  • Well said
  • A good end to the season is great though, not sure about the playoffs but would be great to finish above palARSE though.
  • Well said! Fantastic result today and of course we COULD get playoffs but im more happy that we're safe and anywhere in the top 10 at the end would e a tremendous achievement. What I would like to see now is more of the kids involved, we've seen how well Harry's made the step up and with our under 18's doing so well I'm sure many others could emulate that!
  • I agree. But finishing the season playing so much better shows SCP has learnt and might help attract players that can make the difference. IF there's any funds, but the way we're playing is as good a reason as any to show we've got the potential
  • I don't care what happens now. 4th from bottom or better was always a success for me with the players/management and their experience levels.
That seems to have been achieved comfortably and we can now hope to move on for next season.
As said before, if the home/away results had been reversed there wouldn't have been anywhere near the moaning.
  • It's very unlikely that we will reach the play-offs, let alone win. However, if we did get into the play-offs that would be another injection of much-needed cash to fund our promotion push next year.

It can only benefit the club - I don't see a downside.
  • Would be nice to see a couple of home wins of the free flowing football variety rather than ground out results, to help convince the waverers over season ticket renewals. Other than that anything over safety is a bonus
  • Biggest ever away win. up to 9th. Why be sensible?
  • Biggest ever away win. up to 9th. Why be sensible?

I feel the same! My head and stomach are going to make my morning utter misery tomorrow, but it's so damn worth it!
  • Nah, lets get carried away and dream!

  • is it like prem where you get more money the higher you get?

    1. No chance we can get to play=offs
    2. If we do, then take it with both hands, and see where it takes us.
  • I don't want us to bring in any more players, I just love every single one of our starting 11!!!

    such top blokes
  • Look, I know we won't do it, but isn't it great that we can have a chance of doing it with 4 games to go. Beat Cardiff on Tuesday and have a couple of other results go for us and it will start getting serious.
  • Whose up for Cardiff then, will probably be a boring 0-0 as we've used up our goal quota.
  • 7-0 victory, the poorest defence I have seen all season is Cardiff's. They don't seem to like being attacked with pace and skill. I think we can do that. Important we show them no respect and have a go at them as I also think they have the best attack in the league.
  • Of course we won't get into the play-offs.............but, just in case, what date is the play-off final going to be? Might just keep it free in my schedule...........
  • Such a Charlton thread!
Saying going up would do us more harm than good is the same as the stupid statement when were in Prem "Maybe a drop down to the Championship for a season will do us good so we can re-group"
For goodness sake at least show some ambition rather than just accepting our inherent mediocrity.
  • I can't be sensible tonight !
  • How great would it be to get into the play-offs at the expense of the "faltering" eagles though............................
  • We can still go down

  • B******* Lets go on an amazing run and go up in a blazing glory ... with 30 million released fro Powell as we retake our place at the top table ... the club has muscle memory ... and my word Powell can do it, its just a bit of consistency he needs ... he will naturally rise to his level and his level is Premier League ... We are Charlton Athletic Football Club ...
  • Dont get silly, its great we survived this year in an incredible division. I would love us to take Wolves to the sword next saturday. Would be great to get something at Cardiff but they've just beaten Forest who beat us well and could have been 6 also....lets calm down.
  • Cant believe the negativity about reaching play-offs - go for it, it might never happen again.
  • Rubbish Chippy were going up ;)
  • Dear o dear some people are still drunk form last night
  • Calming down is massively overrated Chippy ... ;)
  • This thread is a joke?Going up and coming back down would leave us far better off than sitting in the middle of this league.
  • Disagree with the OP! It's sport Powell is a winner and will expect the team to do the same!
I said in the prediction thread that we will win yesterday and all our other games get in the playoffs and get promoted!
I honestly don't think we will but wouldn't it be nice!
